I think we keep Mitch and maybe trade Precious for a wing who can play a little 4. Fontecchio?

Looking at the Hornets subreddit and they're pretty happy he's gone. Personally, I'd prefer more wing depth if a trade is made.

That's odd. He didn't get a ton of minutes. What issues did they have? He's a bit of an advanced stat all star. Like a iHart pre-NYK. Curious what their criticisms are?

He looked like a representative shotblocker and a pretty good rebounder with fair finishing ability. I don't think he was Mitch level, but maybe 80% of Mitch with more health.

That said he didn't yield back much of a return for Charlotte. Okogie kind of a nothing player. Suns saved 3mm ont he apron by moving him

VDesai @ 1/16/2025 1:45 PM
What it does show you is how little value there is for that type of player - so Mitch at 14mm is probably not getting people excited.

Low IQ, bad hands and he was siphoning minutes from Diabate.

Richards is one of the better screen assist bigs in the league with solid rebounding stats on both O and D. In fact, the Suns are an incredible fit for him on the screen assists with guys like Booker and Durant able to capitalize on the extra inches he will get them.

From my personal perspective, this trade is just another indicator that Charlotte doesn't really know what it has in its players and values the money stats (pts, reb, asts) over the guys that do the little things.

I see the Suns getting significantly improved and the Hornets giving up an asset for peanuts.

The Diabate comment makes sense - but not really. I like his potential. But Richards would be backing up Williams at the C and not taking minutes at PF (which belong to Miller, Bridges).

I don't pay enough attention to Hornets games to make any bold statements. Just felt like they had one of the better backup Cs and gave him up for nada.

I'm not going to pretend like I watch Hornets games either. Just parroting sentiments on the Hornets reddit. Decent backup who routinely gets cooked by starting line centers and who's defensive potential is lessened by a bad basketball IQ. They feel like the won the trade and that's not factoring the cap impact. I think they're potentially looking at $25M in cap space.

All elite teams lose to lottery teams in a long season. Hell the 72 win 1996 Bulls lost to the 21 win Raptors and 35 win Nuggets that season.

Have the Boston minutes police weighed in?

Clean @ 1/17/2025 9:49 AM
Why would the Boston minutes police weigh in? They are not the team with 4 out of 5 players in the top 5 of minutes played this season. They can also beat elite teams unlike us who is 0 for vs them while getting blown out by them. Our situations are not even close to being similar.

Because they had a bad shooting day and it probably had nothing to do with their collective minutes. These things happen, with every team and lots of different circumstances.

But you are correct, the Knicks situation has nothing to do with theirs. Boston and OKC and CLE that should be held to the standard you are talking about, not sure why you are holding the Knicks there.

The Knicks have a new offense and a completely different defense from last year, they have literally flipped the roster and styles. Why would you think the Knicks should be in the top tier of the league after 3 months of play without their bench being healthy?

The Knicks are not yet an elite team. I didn't expect them to be. Perhaps others have?

VDesai @ 1/17/2025 10:41 AM
Someone posted the stat the other day about teams with Best offensive rating plotted against offensive consistency quarter to quarter and Boston was kinda bad on consistency despite being great on offense. Why? They shoot more 3's than everyone, so are subject to more variability. But on net they destroy teams multiple times more often than they lay an egg, so they take it.

They are in a rougher patch of the season right now, as are we.

They should have been tanking awhile ago. If you look at it even with the mistakes in contracts for Joel and PG they have 2 young building blocks in Maxey and Maccain. If they got lucky and got a top 3 pick they would be set for years even with the Old PG and injured Joel.

VDesai @ 1/17/2025 2:50 PM
I dont know what Embiid's motivation is. They can easily get into the play in. Getting Embiid back last year, they were dangerous coming out of the play in. They would have beaten a lot of teams in playoffs IMO, but they ran into the Knicks with healthy OG and Supernova Brunson who were kinda unbeatable.
