Interesting. I'm guessing they feel like DeRozan can be their offensive facilitator.

So.... did the Kings get a better package for Fox than Dallas got for Luka? Also, is Paul now a buyout candidate? He has said he always wanted to play for the Knicks at least once before he hangs it up.

Kings ate Lavines contract and was compensated fo it. Thats why they got the haul of picks.
Bulls dumped Lavine. '

The Luka/Davis deal is not apples to apples here. If healthy Davis makes Dallas true contenders. If healthy Luka does not.

Didn’t know you could adjust the bonus, thought it was just a waiver thing

Ratings are down?
How about start with boot making it so difficult to watch the games? MSG app is expensive and from what I hear sucks. NBA live has blackouts for local teams PLUS ABC/ESPN. How about figuring out a reasonable way for people to watch when they want to without people having to resort to VPNs to do so and in some cases that not even working?

VDesai @ 2/3/2025 8:42 AM
San Antonio was able to get Fox without trading Castle or Vassel. Didn't even deal Keldon Johnson. Basically have kept their young core in tact and added Fox. Its a steal for them. They had excess draft capital and already have a lot of young talent. Now they add a legit all star level player in his prime to play with Wemby.
SergioNYK @ 2/3/2025 9:26 AM
Good trade for Bulls and Spurs.

Bulls get out of LaVine's killer contract and Spurs get a co-star for Wemby.

Kings get 3 picks but LaVine's contract sucks and I don't think he makes them better.

VDesai @ 2/3/2025 10:37 AM
Kings have moved Haliburton and Davion Mitchell and kept Fox. Now they still have Devin Carter (Anthony Carters son), but they are light at PG. Does Monk play PG or is Monk surplus given the wing situation they have now? Id probably deal Monk if I was them and give Keon Ellis a shot at PG with Carter behind him

Kings are not really going anywhere and Fox is really good, but we are seeing teams now scared of locking up too long. Lavnie was a bad deal, Jimmy Butler was a trap, Beal, Wall, Westbrook until it expired, and more.
some players are hitting their ceiling and teams are not having it. You hitch to the wrong horse its a problem.
Remember Melo and his decline? His last two years in that big contract was not good. Amare? John Wall?
Chicago had to pay to get out of that. I Lavine is a very good talent but that contract is an issue. Sac smartly is rebooting to some extent. Spurs had the assets and now an in prime guy to pair with Wemby. Patience and smart move. Why did Sac move on? Maybe they see Fox breaking down and decided rather than invest in a guy that hit his ceiling, move on. Sort of what ATL did recently. Maybe they see the young guys are not growing with fox and need the sunlight to thrive?
In this CBA teams have to be careful to not phuck up. Injuries happen but also body types matter also. Not everyone can do the big guy thing like Barkley did.
Zion is a perfect example of this issue.
Its possible and one might consider Luka's body type and maybe he has exceeded any reasonable expectation thus far and before you start paying someone 70mil a year think about the ramifications. It might take a year or two for this to occur. Maybe Luka is able to muster up the super ability to keep his body in tip top shape and not bloat in the summers? Lebron could be a good mentor but guys like Jordan, Kobe, and Lebron were blessed with a biology that gave them super human ability and build off of that. Luka obviously has a good motor and insane skill. Not sure we have seen a 6-8 guy playing at age 25 with a "Dad Bod" and sustain it!
Charles Barkley got religious when Moses Malone called him out. Maybe Luka will also.
Nicola Jokic defies logic and perhaps Luka at his position can also and sustain. Dallas made its decision. Letter grade mentality means we have to take a position or opinion.

I think they go Demar, Lavine and Monk with Sabonis and Demar sharing the bulk of the play making duties.

I think Chris might be washed, but does Torrey have anything left?
https://bsky.app/profile/keithsmithnba.b...
Torrey Craig and Chris Duarte were waived to complete the trade. Deal is now official

Sources told @spotrac.com that Chicago was not willing to surrender future assets (draft picks) just to get off two contracts. They preferred to eat the deals in the end.

VDesai @ 2/3/2025 5:28 PM
Torrey Craig is useful. He hitting 42% on 3's at fair volume and has hit at a 39%+ clip for the last few years.

Ratings are down but revenue up. The price per viewer is up. New deal says that. They ok thinking the market can absorb increased pricing.
I get league pass and for under $150 a season I get all the games I want. If its up $20, I'll pay it.
The inequity of regional cable and the issues in the NY area with optimum is unfortunate but it won't last of ever. Cable is dying. ESPN retracted but has to now find a way to go to the pay for App system.

Seems this multi year complex issue of technology, demographics and pricing gets solved by funneling Luka to the Lakers? Hardly.
The league if anything has been making sure all teams get stars. In the real world, if you want to see Wemby, you get can.
If Luka in Dallas or Lakers, I can see him anywhere. Giannis, Durant, Lillard, all came thru small markets and became iconic brands.
Big market teams have to have stars for the arenas to be full given the competition. LA, like NY has two teams in its city. NYC, has three NHL teams in the area, two NFL, Two MLB to also compete. Portland, OKC, Milwaukee has no hockey. MILW has Packers to the north and Baseball in the summer. Indy? Just Colts.
Make no bones about it, winning is profitable! But pay for big salaries and not win is deadly.

First Luka, now Grimes. Untouchable has lost it's meaning!

FROM SHAMS:

Dallas is sending Quentin Grimes
and Philadelphia's 2025 second-round pick back to the 76ers for Martin, sources tell ESPN.

Grimes has bounced around the league.

Questionable if Martin is better than Grimes. But I think Grimes is a FA this summer and Martin is signed for three more years at what would, presumably, be a lower salary. Anyone starting to see a theme?
