Rook, He playing when team scores more than the other adds to +-
If other teams scores more, it drops.
Simple. Its not a great indicator but fact is he did not ruin what was going on when he played.
Long samples is obviously better.
If a team is interested then they might request he play so they can scout him. Then he is "being showcased".
there is enough tape and scouting there are no secrets. It would appear Huk is in the two year plan for now. I'd think Simms is gone after this year is a reasonable assumption.

? - he had the highest +/- (+14) on entire team tonight.

By the way - I thought he sucked in his minutes ---- rarely makes an impact play when plays are right in front of him.

I agree with this. There are long stretches where he does not look like an NBA player despite the crazy athleticism

Unrelated to the above, but will say anyway, i found it maddening how Knicks were either unwilling or unable to attack Houston's weaknesses. Houston's defense is good and physical with the glaring exception of Sengun and i was not seeing a lot of Knicks punishing him on defense

They are very quick and athletic with lots of length. I'm curious to go back and watch how they hid Sengun on defense. I'm not sure how Sims can have a +14 without even scoring. I guess I really don't understand how the stat works. He isn't a good defender, very slow to react even though he has good feet. He is not good in pnr defense and has stone hands on offense. If our plan is to pump up his trade value by playing him I don't see that working. He's already to old to be a project

Yes that's my question, and I didn't pay close enough attention. And even if i had i'm not as smart as many here who could explain how to attack that. (Charles Barkley is fond of saying you need to punish guys like that on the other end)

My understaning for +/- is that's judged by how team does while you're on the floor. So he must have been on court when we caught up at end of first half etc (which i think is corret)

How many times did OG fall down last night?
I noticed one point where he fell down twice in one possession under the basket then again on the other end. Is it me, or do players fall down a lot more than they used to?

Jesus - yes - he can't stay on his feet ---- same with Kat/Brunson when they drive --- they are always on the floor under the basket as other team heading the other way.

OG is so scary he is almost always crumbling to the floor on plays where no other player in the league does this - very odd.

He is always falling because of the way he plays. He steals the ball by getting low. You see him just the ball off the dribble bounce.

Watch the game again - we aren't talking about when OG sneaks in low for defensive steals we are talking about him crumpling to the ground all over the floor on both ends - it's almost laughable if it didn't scare me so much.

Rough game. I saw him falling but they were hitting him pretty hard. It’s one of the issues with running him at PF is he can get bodied where he has a real size advantage at SF. It’s the Hart conundrum. He displaces Bridges and OG from advantageous positions.

I don't buy this in terms of OG being out of place at PF (he's plenty big and plenty strong). In terms of injury I worry significantly more about OG getting hurt chasing smaller/faster players of perimeter screens than I do with him defending an occasional post play.

This is a primary issue with Hart. They switch Sengun to Hart - he plays back in the lane and to a degree you clog the lane and dare Hart (rather than Towns/OG/Mikal/Brunson) to beat the Sengun match-up.

My primary issue watching the game was Brunson was 1) too ball dominant 2) dribbling air out of ball and time off shot clock 3) his pace is too slow - often his 1st pass happening with ~5 seconds left on shot clock. Found myself yapping at the TV - pass the ball!!!

Read stat this AM that in 3 losses this season Jalen has 0 assists to Kat ---- his #1 objective particularly early in games should be to initiate offense for the talent/shooters around him. As game progresses he gets in flow and he's still our closer but get the other guys some shots early.

Another stat - Knicks have slowest pace in the league. Again this is primarily a Jalen issue - he's the lead guard - pick up the pace.

maybe the coach could say something?

I also posted earlier- teams are getting super physical with Jalen- he should exploit their over aggressiveness on defending him to create opportunities for others.

This was a problem early last season as well, Brunson trying to do too much. As soon as he started setting up his teammates early, JB was in the MVP conversation. Frankly I'm surprised we're going through this again, especially since he and KAT have to get on the same page.

Some of Brunson trying to generate offense late in the game was understandable because we were getting zip from the bench, but 19-20 rebounds by KAT should have been rewarded. Brunson was in a shootout with FVV, and lost.

Nalod @ 11/5/2024 3:32 PM

Credit Houston for its game plan and execution to the degree we were unable to adjust.
Credit Houston to how they defended KAT.
Credit to them not turning the ball over enough for us to take advantage of.
Credit to the way they took care of the ball as we did not invade the passing lanes as we often do.

Defense give and take.

McBride missed all 9 shots. All. 5 of them from 3. Thats not him.
Our bench? Deuce played 26min. Sims 16. Kolek 6 minutes. thats it. TO's were almost even.
Our 3pt defense was good. they shot 24%. We shot 39%.
We got out rebounded 50-39.
They got called for 20 fouls, we 18.
They shot 48% We shot 38%.

Not Maybe we slowed the pace on purpose? We had no bench. Sims don't shoot, or talk. We looked tired.

It was a winnable game. A close game. Credit Rockets for they way they played.

So what's the best way to deal with that, have Hart bring it out and take him off dribble or hit midrange? Seems like we gave Sengun a free pass on defense

Well you can try to take advantage of that buts its probably exactly what Houston would prefer.

We get Hart trying to take advantage of Sengun and guys like Brunson/Towns/Mikal/OG get less shots -- it's tricky.

To answer your ? better - I made a few posts about our pace of play (I believe slowest in the league). So we are using up too much shot clock as we go thru our sets. I think Jalen has been biggest culprit thus far - searching for buckets and maybe being on (with) the ball too much in early season.

I think Jalen's dad (Rick) is most likely to be straight with him in terms of whether or not Rick thinks he's missing open guys or being too slow to initiate our offense.

Remember when we lost IQ most fans worried about who would be our secondary creator. Around last trade deadline there were rumors about D-Murray, Brogdon, Clarkson, etc. ---- well we basically have the same problem (someone to take the ball out of Brunson's hands some) and it's even more pronounced with Julius/Donte gone.

The Knicks tried to get T-Jones to play PG --- we settled for Payne but it still feels like we need another player to create offense off the dribble 1) to create offense when Jalen is on bench and 2) to maybe get Jalen off the ball as a SG (sometimes)

Not a big fan of him but makes me wonder about J-Clarkson in package deal with Kessler.

Another guy who's not a point but plays a team style and has size is K-Heurter (a New Yorker) but he's had some post-season issues and he is a 2/3 - not a primary ball handler like a Murray would have been.
