Hope we make a deal at the first trade deadline, and throw in Sims!
Precious will help as you said.
Team did ok eating up the lead with Sims last night. Can't say when Huk gets the call, and it might not be this season but as it stands Sims is still the back up.
If Ryan can give us the quality time off the bench it will be a nice plus for our wings.
Deuce had an off night. Odoka had a nice defense to slow KAT who only took 2 3pt shots. Brooks defended him well on the parimeter and made him work inside. Thibs will have to counter if this is a thing going forward.
Postitive? Kat grabbed 19 boards! "soft" is what many said and "were do we get the rebounds from"? The kid is avg 12.5 in 6 games which thru 6 games is 4th in NBA leaders. Josh with 9 per is 22nd in the league. By contrast, Bam is 25th at 8.5!! At 22nd, with 8.7 is James Harden, LOL!!!!
But, lots of teams have injury issues. Some more than others. Our starting core is healthy for now.

Thibs absolutely refused to double Sengun until late - even with some poor shooters on the floor for Rockets. Sengun is a TO machine - should have had OG/Mikal/Hart digging down on his prolonged dribbles in the post.

I noticed one point where he fell down twice in one possession under the basket then again on the other end. Is it me, or do players fall down a lot more than they used to?
Jesus - yes - he can't stay on his feet ---- same with Kat/Brunson when they drive --- they are always on the floor under the basket as other team heading the other way.
OG is so scary he is almost always crumbling to the floor on plays where no other player in the league does this - very odd.

He is always falling because of the way he plays. He steals the ball by getting low. You see him just the ball off the dribble bounce.
Precious coming back will be huge for this team and if we can incorporate Matt Ryan as the 9th guy that will also be huge. Eventually Shamet comes back as well. Right now depth is a problem and we are riding our starters really hard. That should ease up soon.
Oh and it was glaringly obvious why this team has been interested in Tori Eason over the years. Rockets have some nice wings. They are a solid team, I appreciate the way Udoka and the FO is building them up. Reminds me of the Knicks of a few years ago. Surround the young guys with tough minded vets.

Rough game. I saw him falling but they were hitting him pretty hard. It’s one of the issues with running him at PF is he can get bodied where he has a real size advantage at SF. It’s the Hart conundrum. He displaces Bridges and OG from advantageous positions.

I see a different player in NY. KAT is posting up a lot, showing moves from early in his career,
not camping out at the 3 point line. He's playing physical D, sticking his chest out to slow his assignment. He was playing more of a finesse game in Minny. I think part of it was deferring to Edwards, sometimes to a fault. Thibs is bringing him back to his roots, the skill set that earned him ROY, way back when.
Im very confident that Huk will supplant Sims in the rotation, if this is the best we see from him. A good game on D, once in a while, and zero offense.
But this is the type of team where we really miss and need Mitch or a Center like him. I don't want KAT having to guard Sengun and risk foul trouble. I think if Thibs went with OG, who was great (5/6 from 3!), on Sengun from the start and we avoided getting KAT in foul trouble we probably win this game. Thankfully there aren't many scoring Centers but next time play one we should really avoid having KAT check him.
Bad game from the bench. Deuce was ice cold and Sims was awful. Hopefully Precious is back soon cause Sims isn't an NBA rotation player.
3-3 but have a chance to make this a successful road trip against Atlanta.
VDesai wrote:Knicks lack of depth killer. Only 3 pts from the bench. Need Precious back for physical games like this
This is why I would want Josh off bench.
DLeethal wrote:Not too worried about this one. Rockets were an elite home team last year and we are 2-1 on our road trip. We can finish 3-1 with a W against the Hawks and that's a great trip. Rockets out toughed us though, we are not the same kind of team we used to be, but the Rockets will out tough most teams in the league. Senguin is a stud, it was sad to see him just pick KAT apart in the post. Love the rebounding from KAT though. Brunson had a good game but still not the same Brunson and he made some bad plays down the stretch to stymie the comeback. They are doing it right. And they have a ton of young pieces and assets to trade too. They are going to be all-in on 1 or 2 next level guys.
shinmen wrote:It looked like OG was falling voluntarily. He didn't fall hard, it was as if it was controlled. Might be to avoid ankle, knee injuries. Falling on your ass, less injuries. Not panicking at all after this loss. The starters are all there but we're missing basically all our bench except Deuce. With Precious, Cam, Mitch, Ryan or Shamet on the bench we'll be a far better team.
I know a lot of fans are writing off Mitch as tradebait, but if he stays, he is going to really be a valuable back up changing the tone of the game when he comes in. And then KAT can have some breathing room that if he fouls out, at least there is a capable guy right behind him at C.
Sims is freakin clueless. I don't even know what he's doing on defense. Hes backing up all the way to the basket, instead of bodying up his man. Dude, you're built like Superman. Stop being timid as a mouse. Play tough like your career depends on it (it does!)

Maybe call a time out and get Brunson's head right or call a play? At some point Brunson stopped trusting his teammates and that can't happen. Thibs needed to step and coach that shit
SergioNYK wrote:Tough loss. We had a chance to win it which is all you want against a good team on the road. Give the Rockets credit. They are a different team when FVV is making shots and Sengun can really score the ball. Thompson and Adams really hurt us off the bench. They just killed us on the glass which is a no-no. Hart with only 4 rebounds isn't good enough. The zebras also sucked, especially with Brunson and KAT, but we ended up shooting more FTs than Houston so I don't wanna complain too much. But this is the type of team where we really miss and need Mitch or a Center like him. Fake come back? Moral victory? Ah, the good old days. What a frustrating game. I never liked us playing from behind. We have to start games better

Didn't they make that crazy trade with the Nets to get the Suns pick this summer. They are definitely going big game hunting if the opportunity presents itself

Yep, they have openly coveted Durant. It's up to Suns to lose or win games and then see how the deadline feels.

By the way - I thought he sucked in his minutes ---- rarely makes an impact play when plays are right in front of him.
I agree with this. There are long stretches where he does not look like an NBA player despite the crazy athleticism
Unrelated to the above, but will say anyway, i found it maddening how Knicks were either unwilling or unable to attack Houston's weaknesses. Houston's defense is good and physical with the glaring exception of Sengun and i was not seeing a lot of Knicks punishing him on defense

Kat got into foul trouble and OG was having issue with Segun's height. They executed well to free him up.
KAT is prone to offensive fouls so he had to be careful with Brooks who played him tight. When KAT was low and not in position he had to pass out as Rockets executed help very well. OG got some nice looks but they were tight on Mikal. Off the bench if Matt Ryan can play a role that might really help. Have to hope CamPayne comes back fast or Kolek gets up to speed quickly.
credit Rockets execution. They played us really well. It was close game and few shots did not roll in for us when we got it to within 2 pts. Deuce had a very unusual bad game. Knicks took good shots but it was one of those nights also. Their bench was better than ours also.

They are very quick and athletic with lots of length. I'm curious to go back and watch how they hid Sengun on defense. I'm not sure how Sims can have a +14 without even scoring. I guess I really don't understand how the stat works. He isn't a good defender, very slow to react even though he has good feet. He is not good in pnr defense and has stone hands on offense. If our plan is to pump up his trade value by playing him I don't see that working. He's already to old to be a project
If other teams scores more, it drops.
Simple. Its not a great indicator but fact is he did not ruin what was going on when he played.
Long samples is obviously better.
If a team is interested then they might request he play so they can scout him. Then he is "being showcased".
there is enough tape and scouting there are no secrets. It would appear Huk is in the two year plan for now. I'd think Simms is gone after this year is a reasonable assumption.
