Ok, not sure if these still work, but thinking out loud for upgrades with contracts that give use cost controlled players for a couple more years.
1) Herb Jones for Mitch Robinson. I’ve said this numerous times and not sure if NOP goes for it, but I am ready to throw in more to make this happen. That WAS pick, for starters.
2) Precious for Nick Richards. Ok, I am not certain this is an upgrade, but Richards is wasting away on Charlotte. You get another year at 5m here and a guy whose per 36 and advanced stats pop.
3) Sims for Toumani Camara. Not sure why Portland does this as Toumani appears to be starting in Portland, but it complete the Knicks, so, I’d press.
Second unit:
Payne McBride Jones Camara Richards
Added benefit is that you clear about 2.5mm of cap space to add either Warren or Okeke to the roster. I’d probably take Okeke at this point. Dude has a weird skill set that was really effective in GLeague and fits the overall timeline better at his age.
Third string
Kolek Shamet Dadiet Okeke Huk
I’m pretty much set with this team for next year also. So if we need to use seconds to sweeten the pot, I’m fine with that.
martin@ 1/4/2025 3:04 PM
I don’t know Nick Richard’s well enough but I don’t think there is too much incentive for either team to do that swap. And Toumani Camara is a very good player and you’d need to anti-up a lot more to pry him away, like a first rounder.
Been thinking on the Mitch thing and what it would take for Pelicans to acquiescence to this Herb Jones type of swap. Pelicans need a much better center if they want to make a playoff run and obviously that’s not this year. They’ll have 2 draft picks this year. They got Ingram to deal with and Zion as well, I’d guess that both of those dominos plus long term McCollum too.
If Mitch has more than a good playoff run, would you swap Mitch for Herb Jones if you the Pelicans? I doubt it, unless he has several Cleveland 2023 playoff type series. Mitch and 2026 Washington pick doesn’t move needle either, I think. Mitch and Deuce? Probably. But Mitch would need to prove himself, Deuce would need to be solid for rest of year, and Knicks would have to wait til summer.
jskinny35@ 1/4/2025 3:18 PM
I think Precious has to stay... especially if we are parting with Mitch.
Personally I think we should hold on and not make a move (given the options being reported).
I think mixing up the lineups to help the bench would be my suggestion. Hart back to the 2nd unit with Shamet as the 2 guard or Precious at the 4. Hart can still play with the starters to close out but Shamet would give more outside shooting... or Precious helps with size and switching against bigs. Either way we didn't lose last night because of the bench issues (even with Deuce out).
Nalod@ 1/4/2025 4:55 PM
Payne looked bad last night. He struggled with OKC size. This is why he playing for 2mm per.
Panos@ 1/5/2025 3:27 PM
Knicks need a version of last year's playoff Alec Burks.

I think we need a coach who plays guys on the bench.
How did Kolek look ok and get time playing when both McBride and Brunson were out? Yet he can't get time otherwise.
Why do other teams play kids that are 18 or 19 or 20, but somehow, we can't give Dadiet more of a role, despite looking like a decent athlete.
I'd like to see Josh or Mikal start the game on the bench - I think that would help balance things out.
We don't need to start our best 5 guys - we could save one for the bench.
And at some point, Thibs will get these guys hurt - to anyone who says there isn't a correlation, there is:
Conclusions SEIs occurred in 15.6% of players in this study, with an overall rate of 1.74 SEIs per 1,000 GEs. The most significant risk factor associated with injury was minutes per game. SEI was more likely to occur in the third and fourth quartiles of the NBA season than in the first or second quartile.
Uptown@ 1/5/2025 5:44 PM
I like each player you are targeting, especially Jones. Unfortunatly, I think the Pels, Hornets and Blazers all say no to your trade proposals. I do think Richards and possibly Martin could be had for Mitch plus other assets.

The information on that page says nothing more than players incur season ending injuries when playing basketball.
It also says that season ending injuries happen more frequently near the end of the season. That statement alone is something anyone could deduce without having any data. It also makes me doubt the merit of the study.
It also doesn’t speak of contact vs non-contact, unless I overlooked it.
There’s not enough information in that summary to come to any conclusions at all.
Looks like you need to buy the full study? Martin should buy it. Give us some value for our ridiculous membership fees.

Anyone in college? I should ask my son if he has access to it.
The headline is Minutes Per Game - I assume that means minutes per game - and it is at the end of the season, so it is the accumulation of minutes played in a season. This is why every other franchise is managing the work load of their star players.

This study sounds like it was written by first year students...
SEI was more likely to occur in the third and fourth quartiles of the NBA season than in the first or second quartile.
Players injured in the first and second "quartiles" have more time to recover and come back before the end of the season.
It is also focused on season ending injuries, which does not include the majority of injuries that we fans are usually concerned about (the numerous injuries that impact player performance, or contribute to missed time/games).

I know we need more but I personally don’t really want to rock the boat… I love the team…
Mitch coming back will be an upgrade
I think we are set up perfectly for the buyout market. Whoever the biggest name is will have an opportunity at minutes and a playoff run. I kinda think that is our best path at improvement this year

TJ Warren or Chuma Okeke are the most likely gets. Salary implications with the second apron is a major consideration.
VDesai@ 1/6/2025 8:43 PM
TL:DR he thinks our most realistic acquisition with 2nd apron rules etc is Alec Burks!!!
