Kolek’s ability to distribute & shoot will help our bench score more points. Adding Mitch & Warren in March will also help.

Neither Deuce or Cam Payne are 50% of the point guard that Kolek is.
Both Deuce and Cam Payne are more 2 guards playing the combo guard role. Both are better than Kolek at playing the 2. What is frustrating is that when Kolek does get burn he is forced to play the shooting guard position while Cam Payne plays the 1.
It is rare to find a gem like Kolek to run the point and we are hurting his development and limiting the 2nd unit to mostly create for itself.
Kolek would make everything on 2nd unit easier for everyone else on that squad.
I think what he would bring on offense for the whole 2nd unit would overshadow any defensive rookie lapses he may have.
Good point. The worst scoring bench in the NBA would score more if we played the best pure backup PG in the league. Makes sense to me
So what does Thibs see, or not see that we the fans see?
How does Thibs hurt his development if he is not ready? We have been thru this, Some players get a chance, like Kolek and Dadiet early. The did not pass the test. This is a pro league. Paid professionals play that can get the job done. These guys are playing some Gleague and in practice.
When Thibs says they are ready, they they get some run. How can any fan dispute this?
If Thibs is right, EVENTUALLY the fan will be also. Take Decuce. Fans loved him for his defense. He got to play and had a short hook. Kid could not shoot. It took two seasons for him to acclimate. When he did it was like "Finally!".....No, he earned the place in the Queue. We all want our home grown to pan out. IQ had to go thru the process.
When the time is right, or Payne needs a game off, Tyler the greater will get another chance. Maybe its this season, maybe next, or maybe never.

From the little I've seen of Kolek - while he is a true PG (unlike Payne & Deuce) - he also has trouble staying in front of his man. I imagine Thibs will give him minutes as he further develops and becomes more effective on D (i.e. awareness & rotations etc) as he will likely be a plus on O.
Cam Payne literally is playing some of his best basketball of the season and making a huge difference in games. Literally has the best net rating on the team. And now is the time for play Tyler Kolek thread? I guess we should bench Brunson?
Tyler if not effective shooting then has to get to penetrate. If his shot not falling, this won't be effective. If he can't defend like a demon, then he can't be on the court. Deuce was far from read but his defense was contributory so he got minutes.

What will be interesting is does Delon Wright get any minutes after the break. I can almost see inserting him the starting lineup if Josh misses any time and let the rest of the rotation run. This is a Thibian thing sometimes.
Also in the Thibian manner Shamet is playing well off the ball and a wiling passer. That shot starts falling and he gets the green light it could be 3/4 of DDV off the bench.
Never know. Shamet could be relegated to the end of the bench if he has a timeline to impress and is not. We just don't know.

I think Delon is a break in case of emergency guy. Sims, but as a wing. His offense is pretty cooked at this stage. But at 6'5", he offers more size defensively at the wing. You could make the case he should take Shamet's minutes if Shamet isn't going to hit his shots anyway

It's usually the Centers and Power Forwards who box out. In our case we also have Josh. 3 ppl boxing out is plenty. Sometimes just one guy doing it is enough ( iHart used to box out 2 ppl sometimes) Kolek could get the rebound if the team is boxing out, that'll do :)

At this point Your correct. With Allstar break sometimes comes a reboot of sorts. Teams settle after big trades and not experiment, but perhaps adapt and look for playoffs.
I don't know about Delons shooting vs not having minutes to build rhythm. Might say the same for Shamet who has not had consistent minutes given his injury and uneven play. Fans react so its easy to let loose and let them have it.
After Boston took us apart some fans were ready to make changes. He has not played yet I believe.
Bottom line is OG is not playing and while he might not win DPOY, he is a monster on the court in many ways. Knicks did not pay him 40mm a year to just score or make highlight reels. This guy when he plays for Thibs makes us near elite, Proof? The gaudy records since he joined us.
I believe a fully healthy team we can adapt to big or small lines ups and give any team a run for the money. No team is fully healthy and our bench needs to prove itself beyond the statistic of it being the worst in the league. There is a path but its from within and Hard to convince anyone, including myself because it has yet to happen.
Shamet had a tough shooting year last year which is why he was a cheap FA. To be here one has to go the way of the Thibian and defense first. Shoulder injuries affect shooting but his defense with quick feet is impressive. Still we need more from him.
Delon vs. Shamet will be interesting to see. If Shamet is in there for defense and finishing, than Delon is actually probably a better option - he is a decent slasher and a more disruptive defender and around the same size. Shamet has historically been a way better shooter, but he obviously isnt really hitting his shots.
Like Kolek.
But come on man, Cam has been getting it done at high level.

If Cam does not get the nod, I vote for Ron Baler to get a shot. I mean, fans know best!

This is the painful thing about fandom. It's so absolutely misguided and ignores what's actually happening, and instead pining for a fantasy. This is the 4th best team in the league, Cam Payne has been a really good player for us, Thibs is an all time coach, so what do fans say?

This thread is about increases our bench scoring which is last in the league.
Payne has not done nothing to be demoted and has sparked some nice runs off the bench.
Kolek can wait until next season.
Kolek has a future in the league if he can be a more consistent shooter and upgrade his d. Payne is doing well off the bench.
We have noone at PG coming off the bench. Zero. Jack diddly squat. Deuce is a SG. Payne is a SG/SF. Kolek is the only PG on the bench. Don't give me none of that " it's a new league without positions" Who runs plays for others off the bench ? Ahh, now you see it. F it, who runs plays for others as a starter? Towns does from the the 3 point range at a nice rate, but it's not enough .Hart does it, but come on ! Brunson can get assists but the man is not really a PG. Yes, I'll get into that argument with anyone. He has definitely improved at it. I like his growth there. But our bench? Kolek is the only guy that creates shots and easy points for others.
Payne is like 6'1 160. He is strictly a PG. I think he runs the offense well. He likes to shoot, but who cares? Hr can get hot and score in bunches. He is doing really well in his minutes. We have a tremendous net rating with him on the floor. You could look it up.
