Knicks · Dallas did the old FAFO dance, starting with Brunson (page 1)

martin @ 3/4/2025 9:20 AM

* Mavericks traded Luka Dončić, one of the greatest players of all time (who just led them to the Finals), after negotiating with one team and asking that team to keep quiet about it. "You got, Nico!"

* The deal was so genuinely unbelievable that we all assumed Shams had been hacked.

* Every single attempt to make the trade look better has made the organization look worse. On the record or otherwise, everything from Nico Harrison and Patrick Dumont is, at best, nonsensical. Anthony Davis' position and archetype are far less valuable for a modern playoff run than Luka's. Luka is six years younger. Luka's a five-time First Team All-NBA playmaker who's basically averaged a 30-point triple-double for almost six years. Dallas got a worse, older player, a potential future rotation player and almost no draft capital for him. Given everything Luka had already accomplished and his connection to the fans, his being "out of shape," however Dallas wanted to define that, was truly immaterial.

* The oft-injured AD got hurt in his first game with Dallas.

* Front office also traded Quentin Grimes because it doesn't want to pay him. He just had a career-high 44 points for the 76ers.

* Lakers have surged into 2nd place in the West since the deal.

* While the fan base is very openly and understandably revolting against the franchise, it announced an 8% increase in season ticket pricing.

* Kyrie Irving, who's been a pretty incredible soldier in the midst of all this madness, just left tonight's game with what's currently being called a knee sprain.

* Dereck Lively II and Daniel Gafford were already hurt, too.

This all happened in the last several weeks. And somehow, I still feel like I'm missing things.

I would just check out of the sport if I followed them... I literally did that with football (Giants fan). Every fall it's the same thing. By October I know I'm checked out. It's almost freeing. Just brutal. Reminds me of some of the Isiah years. I followed the team but didnt really spend time watching. Im not into the misery.

Poor Mavs fans. Loosing Brunson and watching him become the NBA's most clutch player is tough. Luka is just sickening. Dont know how you keep watching. What a gut wrencher

that's a character flaw and I'll not ruin my breakfast discussing such treachery

Dallas went to the finals last year. Lets not bury them quite yet.
Their fan base is over reacting? A bit? of course they are, thats what fans do.
They don't have their own pick but what about others?
I don't think they meant to tank this year but if the injuries matter then flat out go for it if they have the pick this year and perhaps get lucky or have an asset to trade.

Thing is they could really be good next year.

Just don't watch this too closely.

Typically ~9 months to return

franco12 @ 3/4/2025 11:21 AM
I guess Cuban has timed his transaction again, before the bubble burst!

I can't believe how horrible everything happening to them is.

Nalod @ 3/4/2025 12:44 PM
Did not see the Irving injury but the bad JuJu that has hit that club is something awful!
Cuban is not driving that bus anymore. As good as last year was the devil has come for their soul to pay up!

And they lost Moses Brown??? How do you recover

By raising tickets prices nearly 9%, I guess.

JesseDark @ 3/4/2025 1:45 PM
They will be in the Cooper Flag sweepstakes now. They are in the 10th spot in the west right now.
Nalod @ 3/4/2025 1:54 PM
the Brunson loss was awful but they did get Irving on the cheap. But.....at a lot higher salary!!!
Kyrie has a player extension for next year and this is now a different story. A very different one.
Few players come back after 12 months let alone 9, then need time to get the rust off and some players take longer than others.
Not sure if he has the extra tendon (Adrian Peterson freaky return thing) or how much surgery is needed. He about to turn 33 this month.
Im not talking too much shit here because we have been whacked by the Starphuch gods ourselves and do believe in karma.
BTW, what happend to Kyrie for those who think Melo could have come here as a free agent is why he did not. Shit happens!

Been reading a lot of the same

Once I saw the slow mo video it was clear he was bumped off balance right when he was planting to take a step. It is just bad luck it happened at the worst time. It is like the lesser version of people when their heart stops after taking a chest hit at a specific section in a heart beat. It happened at least once in baseball and in football.

Glad we at the bottom! Hope we stay there!

Adam Silver shot down the conspiracy theory about the Mavs moving to Vegas. But hearing about an 8 percent rise in ticket prices, right after trading Luka. Is going to get those conspiracy theories going again. Last thing you do to the fan base you just f’ed.
martin @ 3/4/2025 4:08 PM
There are levels to this I guess, someone should get a raise.
