Knicks · Heat visit NYC - MSG , ESPN - 7:30PM Monday (page 4)

Doris was just gushing about Mitch and how much better he looked than in San Francisco.
Her sarcasm when the camera showed the wings on the bench was kind of funny.
I know she is not a favorite of some here and she was awful when knicks were getting blown out on any of her broadcasts few years back when things sucked but there is a common thread to all this. Then the Knicks suck there the "Hate" from ESPN or Doris is earned. We fans just don't like it. It was deserving.

so this.. is what I came here for. I dont know if Mitch eventually starts but having him for 25-30 effective minutes AND he can play w/ Towns is the shit. That's what is going to elevate this team. Most kinda knew it all long but get distracted along the way.

No idea if the Knicks could have swung the KAT trade with iHart on the roster but Mitch, iHart with KAT permanently at the 4 is a world beating team.

What could have been

Looks like he is good. Might feel bad for a few days burt he is good.

I think the Knicks only chance to strike lightning in a bottle this year would be with a big lineup with KAT/Mitch/OG. Thibs was kind of fawning over it in his post game last night. Apparently he told the broadcast in their meeting the only thing keeping them back really is Mitch's mins limit, in limited minutes it seems he prefers to have him back up KAT.

Also worth noting that the defense in general has been really good with Brunson out, so the issue is more KAT/Brunson than it is just KAT.

But if the big lineup works, that could give us a spark and a new look that could all of a sudden allow us to slow down top teams and compete with them more than we can with the current lineup. It definitely gives us an interesting look versus Cleveland.

Honestly I much prefer to watch this team play great defense even if the offense is shaky as well. This stint with Brunson out has been pretty enjoyable to me. Good old fashioned scrappy Knicks ball.

Thibs has shown the ability to make up for one bad defender, but making up for 2 is too hard apparently.

For every high level team, especially when it's the C and you don't have weak side rim protector next to them.

Getting there

I was not on the fire Thibs train but since when does beating a team on an 8 game losing streak proof a coach is not bad? Thibs will not be fired since he is too close to Rose and Brunson but if he were to be fired it would be for the team not being able to beat top teams. The Heat are not even close to a top team. Since the Jimmy trade they been pretty clearly a bad team.

I was being facetious. And I agree with everything you said. Until they hit their slump buster and beat a few top teams, it is an issue.

So here is my question - everyone is fixated on replacing Hart in the SL, but if the problem is really defense, are we on the right thing?

To me its just more lineup diversity and staggering Brunson and KAT minutes.

The Knicks most played lineup by far is the SL and its an average unit by net rating.

weird I thought Spol was the best coach in the NBA, yet they always blow leads to us. I guess Spo cant hang with Thib's and his adjustments.

Yes. And when you have both guys on the floor, it’s good to pair them with Mitch. That lineup isn’t gonna happen for a while, unfortunately, until Mitch is back to health and there is a backup 5 off bench.

I think the problem is on both sides. We never have 5 out. We live or die by if Hart can hit an open shot. Thibs loves to play Precious/Hart and Mitch at the same time for some reason. If spacing is a problem with 1 of them out there what the heck is he thinking with 3? Will we beat up on some teams? Yes, but don't let that fool you. Any team that knows how to defend us will be hard to beat. Add to that teams that know we will give them open 3's once they hint at even trying to get to the hoop and that is why we suck vs any good team.

There's a very wide talent gap between the Knicks and the Heat. Spo a great coach but the Knicks need to do something against some of these top teams or they're not going to be looked at as a top team. That's a fact whether it's coach or players.
