Knicks · Would you target Giannis if he is available and what are you giving up? (page 1)

martin @ 4/1/2025 10:59 AM
Let's say Giannis was given a choice. I doubt he picks the Nets, too competitive.

Not for nothing but I'd guess that Boston would be in the driver's seat on that one but who knows.

martin @ 4/1/2025 11:03 AM
I'm wrong, OKC would be in the drivers seat cause of their picks?

But since MIL is over the second apron, you need to match salaries of 1 player? I don't know how any of this works.

franco12 @ 4/1/2025 11:04 AM
I only have bad ideas!

I think the answer depends on the playoffs and what key guys do to answer the questions we have about them.

Can Hart hit an open 3? Or is he just a fill in the blanks super role player.

Can Kat be something more, can he stop complaining to the refs, can he step up in the big moment, or is he just too nice?

Can Bridges bring it in the playoffs, like he has the past couple games?

Does Mitchell Robinson stay healthy and impact the game like he has in the past?

Not Houston?

And if Giannis is having a say - have to think that GS is always somehow relevant.

Phoenix has big names, big salaries that might match.

He and Dame are basically $58M per next year! NUTS!

I would guess a lot would depend on how they do in the post-season. IHart, a crap load of picks and one of the young guns gets them there if they want to go forward

If OKC wins the chip or goes deep in the finals it's hard to see them making a trade like this. They would be in run it back territory with a young roster

Yes I would target Giannis but if I'm the Bucks I want young assets, picks and expiring contracts to rebuild an aging roster. The Knicks have none of those. No disrespect to Deuce but I'm not trading Giannis for him. The cost of flipping players for expiring contracts and picks for a trade would be steep.

what would they be doing with Dame? I mean, makes 0 sense to trade a star who is still in their prime, for youth and picks, and still have a geriatric, win now player like Dame. Dude did kinda force his way out of that situation in Portland.

They're going to have to take 50 cents on the dollar for Dame (no pun intended). You got to know when to hold them, know when to fold them... I still think Houston is the likely front-runner for Dame or Giannis. They have picks, young players, are good and are one player away from being contenders. They have the capital and the proper insensitive to get a deal done.

Even if they win a chip, you have to assess the circumstance. The one thing that OKC does not have a lot of: Bigs.

They do gots the draft picks though!

If they were rebuilding I'm not sure why they would want to take KAT back, so its hard to see the angle for us.
Panos @ 4/1/2025 2:25 PM
What do you need to add to KAT to get the deal done?
GustavBahler @ 4/1/2025 2:57 PM
I dont believe JB and Giannis would mesh. I would rather see the FO work on giving the Knicks one of the best benches in the league. Even if that means benching a starter. We're top heavy, and it might be cheaper to change the starting lineup, instead of making costly moves.

Bringing Mitch off the bench when KAT is giving up too many buckets, is preferable to moving KAT after one season. He's taken his game to another level. One season isnt long enough to see if he can do the same with his D.

Never thought KVH could play respectable D, until he did with the Knicks. Towns needs time to make his case. Would not be a good recruiting tool to trade a star after the season KAT's been having. Not even the pkayoffs yet anyway.

I don’t think we would necessarily have to offer KAT as part of the package. OG + Deuce and picks. Whatever team that trades for Giannis would probably also have to also agree to take on Lillard’s contract which rules us out because we don’t have the expiring contracts to make that work

A team like the nets could offer a lottery pick (which could possibly be Flagg) plus cap relief

Disagree. I don't think you can pull off a $100M+ salary deal. That would be enormous.

It would be a monster, multi team deal.

Phoenix has big contracts they want to move. Philly too. I don’t even know if the cap rules would allow anything to happen. They’re basically stuck with them.

Forgot that Houston got the Suns picks.

It’ll be an interesting summer

This answer is going to be unpopular. But I’d consider trading Brunson for Giannis. Consider a 3 way with NOP and Milwaukee.

Bucks get:
Brunson
Hart

NOP gets
Robinson (TPE)
Deuce (TPE)

Knicks get
Giannis
H. Jones

Joku / Kolek / Payne
Bridges / McCullar / Shamet
OG / Dadiet / Warren
Giannis / Jones / Tucker
KAT / Huk / Nnaji

I don’t see the Knicks getting Giannis without giving up Brunson. Impossible in my opinion. You lose 3 pt shooting with Giannis, but you get a ball dominant two way player that is a perennial MVP candidate.

I’m not saying I pull the trigger on this, but it’s the best case I can think of. Bucks have Lillard so it doesn’t make a tone of sense for them unless they can flip him for picks and youth.

We end up a bit weak at PG and I’m relying on a wildcard of Joku/Kolek to fill that void.

But, you get a pick and pop in Giannis/Kat that should make Bropez look silly.

^ Someone check on EwingsGlass, I think he still drunk from the weekend.

I'm not judging, I'm just saying we should check and maybe join him for a mimosa or self spike the coffee.
