With what cap space ?

They have the taxpayer mid-level exception which they can use to sign either player (or a different veteran) and I’m thinking Horford could sign for the vet minimum (or whatever they have available) to ring chase since he’s 39. He could also be interested in playing with his friend, mentee, and Dominican national teammate, KAT.

Taxpayer exception likely puts the past second apron, depending on their available roster spots. Also, I'm not sure that Spencer isn't washed. I'll trust the FO to make that determination if he is FA candidate.

It does not. 5:50 mark for the numbers.

Top 7 rotation players, 4 youngins in Huk WhoYourDaddy Kolek McCullar, 2 vet mins leaves you $7m below second apron.

Pick your poison.

What is most interesting is these guys don’t think we should use the tax payer MLE.

1) because it hard caps you at 2nd apron (true hard cap)
2) just not very good players available when consequence is hard cap at 2nd apron

Doesn’t put you past but hard caps you at 2nd apron.

What are you guys planning to do with Bridges who is extension eligible and going into the last year of his contract?

Besides hard capping you at 2nd apron the tax payer MLE is also a 2 year deal so it messes with 26/27 as well especially when if you have to extend guys like say Mikal.

I know its a risk coming of an ACL tear but he has GREAT mentality, fits right in there with Josh and the rest, defends and would be ideal to replace Precious!

Not a bad thought

Salary dump Hart in the 2026 offseason. He will have one year left so his contract will be easier to move and we can package it with a 2nd

Our cap situation is not good for adding quality rotation FA depth. Were looking at adding fringe vet minimum cast offs again

Yes. Not fully sure, but I think the only way you can go above the 2nd Apron is to resign one of your own players or to sign a Rookie Draft pick.

Ever since Randle was jettisoned, JB is dribbling about twice as much. And it's not all good.

We're all thinking it, so I'll just say it...

Trade for Randle!!!

Probably right - like the Mikal extension could be timed to put us over the 2nd apron.

I hope we don't wait too long Hart. If his play declines, body breaks down or shot goes in toilet -- his game is not conducive to NBA analytics and he might be very tough to dump without much pain.

Trading Mitch or Hart for depth has to be on the table.

DLeethal @ 6/16/2025 6:33 AM
Honestly watching the Finals make you feel like with some coaching adjustments we are right there for a title. Watching Chet get attacked on switches and look like a fish out of water on an island made me feel better about KAT. If we can get a coach to maximize this offense and figure out a legitimate bench unit using some of our young guys, with another year of chemistry we will be top 3 favorites next year. I think Mitch might need to be trade bait unless we can get a Steven Adams type extension out of him I suppose. But this team has everything it needs or close to it.
EwingsGlass @ 6/16/2025 7:00 AM
Anyone think JJJ is available after the Bane trade? I doubt it, I figure that was more about extending JJJ. But I know many of you hate Mikal, so swapping him for JJJ would change our positional size. It makes a Herb Jones swap for Mitch that much easier. Then you just have to teach Brunson and KAT defense.

Brunson
Jones
OG
JJJ
KAT

Do like him though. That would be a good get.

I think it's more likely that MEM wants to use the asset haul to retool around Ja and JJJ than it is them wanting to blow it all up. They can make a power move now. JJJ would cost way more than Mikal also and based on reporting Herb Jones would cost way more than Mitch.

Exactly.
They got 4 first and two good players for Bane.
Don’t think we would have enough to compete with other deep asset teams.

Felt like this was one of the reasons Knicks traded so many picks for him, his salary was even below rookie extension territory for a solid player in your lineup at $24M for 2 seasons while Brunson was also taking a fuckton less too.

Knicks are sitting very pretty salary cap and second apron wise cause of this for at least another year. Important.

Knicks have Josh locked up at $19M, $20M, and $22M team option. He is an incredible BARGAIN for his production and I don't know how he breaks down until after his extension of current contract.

Unfortunate part of the business but it's probably a leverage point between Knicks and Mitch. NOP is just sitting out there.

I agree with this. I think they have determined you can’t build around morant, JJJ and bane with the amount of the salary cap they take up, so bane had to go. This is a trade that is a fallout of the new rules.
