Think its reasonable to believe that the Knicks and Kidd likely want each other, but its a slow moving and delicate situation because:
A) Kidd wants to get paid more regardless of where he ends up
B) Mavs don't want to let him go, especially to NYK, but don't want to cave on money or their demands for compensation
C) Knicks aren't gonna give away the house and know they have time on their hands as they are the only ones out there looking and are willing to wait as long as needed to pay a price they are comfortable with
Meanwhile the Knicks will run interviews, express interest in others and kee a process going to gain negotiation leverage, learn about the field and have alternative plans. Maybe someone wows them and they decide he is their guy.

D) The Knicks can offer a future FRP after the draft?

Oh, that was totally worth firing Thibs for. We should have done this sooner!

Pano's, who you in favor of hiring? Do you have a front runner?

I was thinking the exact same thing.

Don’t forget those rosters borrego coached were trash… whats impressive to me is that he got to the play in a few times with a trash roster … look at some the the HOF coaches we had that looked like trash, it wasn’t there fault as a coach you can only go as far as your roster’s talent can take you. I know this is not a popular view, but I would love to see mike d'antoni get a interview with this roster. Look what he did for Steve Nash‘s career and then he came here and had Chris freaking duhon as his starting point guard, look what he did with a very average player in Lin …. I think he would take brunson’s game to a whole new level.

Would you say their draft picks developed under his tutelage?
Well, I feel like that’s yet to be seen MJ and crew were probably the worst at drafting NBA talent possibly the worst in nba history.
With all said I don’t think borrego will be hired … but I also don’t think he can be properly evaluated on his record with the rosters he had to work with.

Maybe, maybe not. But the bottom line is, do you fire Thibs just to hire this guy? Is this a net gain?
Lets look at this with Neutrality.
The darling wunderkind assistants are the so desired by some. They come from great programs and were promoted by some great talents having assisted them.
Borrego won with Pop.
Often these guys are hired to build a young team and given years to do so.
Sometimes they are promised things and the team does not deliver.
HIs manner, analytics, etc. Does not matter to causal fan as they dismissed based on the record only.
Jenkins did great. Then it turned to shit as Jah did. What happend? Alot. Its easier to change coach then players.
Borrego? Jordan ownership was erratic? I'd look at his roster he was given. Remember young coaches don't get leverage for input.
Now ask, is he a better coach having learned from experience? Im not saying we hire him or should. But sometimes you get a Sam Presti as your boss and really good picks, and sometimes you get crumbling Kemba and Gordan Haywood eating cap, with Malik Monk, Rozier, and Willy Hernangomez, then get Lamelo who is an idiot and often injured, etc.
Also Miles Bridges and the noise he bought. Not all at once mind you. In different years. Add the team owner is head strong and Mitch Kupchak is also not able to do his thing because of it. So perhaps you get a great coach but just did not have the players. Context.
Your not hiring a flawless coach. They all have warts or no head coach experience.
Borrego got to 43-39 with one of the more dreadful franchises. He is not my first choice, but he's a young forward looking guy that worked with the all time great Pop.
Bill Belichick started his career 41-55 in 5 seasons. Borrego probably not gonna be an all time great, but you have to consider context, upside, background etc and not just dismiss based on record. Otherwise you should give way more credit to Mike Brown and his .600 career win % in over 750 games.

Joe Torre Stint managing the Mets, Braves and Cardinals was less than good.
(From Wikipedia)
Before his first game with the Yankees, Torre got off to a rough start. The New York City press (and fans) thought his hiring was a colossal mistake and greeted him with tabloid headlines such as "Clueless Joe."[55] Including his three previous jobs, he had been a combined 109 games below .500,[52] and had never won a playoff game in 14 seasons.[56] He had appeared in 2,209 games as a player and 1,901 as a manager for a total of 4,110 games without reaching a World Series, let alone winning it.However, it was with the Yankees that he enjoyed the greatest success of his managerial career, leading the team to the playoffs in each of his twelve seasons (1996–2007) there.
Im citing this as one example of a manager turning his career around. Sure, he had great players but they had not won prior. All situations are different but there are instances of great coaches NOT succeeding with new teams. WE can always find doubts with every candidate. Its not that Thibs failed. Hardly. This is about pushing forward and we won't know until we know. Maybe 3-4 years into the future. Meanwhile if Mikal said "I Won't play for him" and won't extend then Thibs would have had a big problem. Maybe it was Kat? But as good as it was it was not a typical thibian team that played above its head.
Fans want that starphuch dude. Kidd was a good choice and exudes confidence.
LIke I said, Brown, Jenkins and now Borrego were all the "it" assistant that contributed to a chip. You either get Bud, Vogel or Malone and their chip cred or maybe the brightest dude that has yet to. We have some great players now also. The candidate has to put the in the best position to succeed. No body here is qualified to answer that with any distinction.

MDA would be top choice for Brunson and Towns absolutely

Umm. Nope. If you want to be better than others u have to do things differently. So this coach search is kinda different. We let go a big favorite for someone unusual, but it's the only way to really get better

All this misses the point.
We are not a young team looking for the right developmental coach. Or a team looking for a coach with decent attributes.
Either Rose felt Thibs was not good enough and did not have the chip experienced to get our “win now” team to a chip. (So why hire a guy whose historical data leads no one to believe that he does.) Or this was a knee jerk Dolan move that was made without much thought to the alternative.
Just hire Malone already. He has recently won a championship and already knows guys in the building.
