Knicks · Clarkson to Knicks (page 4)

Don't need to rush anything with Kolek. Kolek will lead the summer league team, play a lot in preseason and get his chance to show off his shot. IF he does, Clarkson is on a veteran min - salary isn't going to keep him ahead of Kolek. Similar situation to Austin Rivers/Quickley. That said Clarkson maybe occupies a different role since he can swing to off guard and so can Deuce.

I defintely want Clarkson off the ball. Hopefully Kolek will improve enough to play real minutes at PG. We need someone to move the ball, and we need Clarkson to focus on getting buckets.

Clarkson plays with the ball in his hands regardless...he is a pretty good creator off the bounce. Jeremy Cohen had some good stats about Clarkson creating corner 3's on a team that couldn't shoot last year.

My point is that we want a legit playmaker running the offense, making their teammates better.

If Clarkson's role is going to be instant offense, Id like to see a real playmaker running the point, and Clarkson off the ball. To make sure that everyone is getting good looks at the rim.

We can blame Thibs all we want and speculate, but thats behind us.

All we do here is speculate!

Lol

Clarkson should not be the PG / main playmaker on the floor, I agree. Unless we need a bucket or a change in momentum. He has the handle to create for himself, but not so much for others. But that could change under the right coach / system. He's Campayne with more skills.

Minutes for the bench were not the problem. We didn't have that dude. That dude doesn't have to be consistent(would be nice), but he does go off from time to time and steals playoff games, like Mathurin or Toppin did. Hell, add TJ to that. Our bench rarely made a difference in the playoffs or the regular season. The Cam show was too infrequent. Shamet wasn't right for most of the season, Mitch was out, and O isn't his forte; Precious never got a consistent playtime role, and Ariel got hurt. So, if OG or Mikal was off or both, we were losing that game. Just no bench offensive dogs. Now we have one, we need more, plus Hart really should be on the bench. The right coach and continued smart moves, and we are headed closer to the goal. We are probably getting Clarkson, the all-time highest bench pts scorer(min 500 games), for the Vet min. If he doesn't work, you bench him or use him as a trade chip. Some wanted to trade for him, now we got him for free, and Ainge got NADA. Win-win. Let's go, Knicks.

Because Thibs wasn’t using bench players

who among Duece, Mitch, Shamet and Precious was going to create offense off the bench?

Our bench was actually 9th in scoring per minute in the league last year. It's just they didn't get minutes, otherwise we would not be last in total bench scoring average.

if anything that lends credence to Thibs keeping them within themselves. I don't think that keeps up if you played them more.

A guy like Payne scored 7ppg in only 15mpg but if you play him much more he gets exposed.

My counter argument is that with sporadic minutes guys cannot get into a rhythm. If we use Payne as an example, it's not that he got 15 mins every game. It would be like 20 one game, 9 minutes the next game, then DNP the game after....stuff like that.

This makes complete sense to me. I also believe stats support this.

I think Deuce is gone. Especially if we sign Westbrook. I think Kolek is a better fit with his ability as a floor general. 2nd unit shaping up. Hopefully Mitch is brought back.

Except Kolek hasnt shown he's an NBA player yet so there's that. Hopefully that was all Thibs and/or Kolek just needs more time

Hard to show anything when your coach is only giving you on average 7 mostly garbage time minutes per game.

Kolek still managed to show he was the best playmaker on the roster, as a rookie. Thats enough for me to want to see him get a legit chance next season to make the rotation.

If Im concerned about anything, its Kolek's D. It improved a little by the end of the season, but its going to take more to get PT I imagine. I'm guessing the offense will work itself out

sports are hard! Poor Kolek

Is it too early to start a Trade Clarkson thread?

imagine answering the questions at the end of the game... "coach you lost. Any reason why you left Payne out there after shooting 0-5 in the first half?"
"We need him to get into rhythm. Next question"

You guys should be coaches!

No. You should start one as a placeholder right now. Put up a fire Mike Brown thread while you're at it. Trust me, it will save some time for the upcoming season.

Payne is an inconsistent chucker who does not make guys around him better and take a heat check after a heat check, followed by? Another heat check( chuck?) so bad example.

If you use Kolek in this same exact way, it paints a different story. Rookie that could unlock bench scoring (our bench was 9th in points per minute) , potentially becoming a top 5 bench in the league ( our starters were the worst meanwhile)Shamet was our 2nd or 3rd best defender( points scored against) ...there are more examples of this

Some things are so obvious that even noncoaches like us can see them( and sports commentators, and those ESPN hosts, and league players, even guys on our team - Bridges)

My only question is why is it taking so long?

Make sure to include some hilariously one-sided trade suggestions too.

And some Sweeney pics.
