Shamet or Wright for you guys ? Sort of like the Burks or the other guy we had, with the dreads ? Happy free agency !!
Plus he is a Pinoy! Woohoo!
we were dead last in bench scoring last season, adding a guy that has scored more points off the bench than anyone in the past few years, at vet min... is a great signing. You don't have to think he's the perfect player. This is like bringing back IQ on a 1 year vet min deal.
He would have been a decent MLE pickup, but he’s an excellent pickup at the vet minimum. Gives us a spark plug scorer 8th man. And he is a better passer than people assume due to his role. As far as what we could expect in day 1, this is pretty close to a home run.
Clarkson is also a scrapper like Dante. We had none of those guys left after Dante and Hartenstein left. Sounds superficial but we saw in DET series that “punking” is an element of the game that certain teams try to exploit. KAT was the guy who stepped up and stopped the punking and we all know that’s not in his DNA. We had to send PJ Tuckers corpse in there to get Brunson’s back in another game. Clarkson will get in the mix and not allow this team to get punked. We do need 1 or 2 of those guys.

We move Bridges or Hart to the bench, and we'll have one of the better second units in the league, if Mitch comes back. I expect our recent draft picks to start chipping in as well.
After sleeping on it, I'm still not liking this but it's for the minimum for a year so not too risky and we did need a scorer off the bench. But Clarkson really needs to take this season way more seriously. He was just awful with his shot selection last season and that's why he ended up shooting 40% which is abysmal. And his effort on defense must be better too.

Because Thibs wasn’t using bench players

who among Duece, Mitch, Shamet and Precious was going to create offense off the bench?

He’s taking Cam Payne’s spot on the roster. He’s a better player than Payne. It’s a solid move.

Deuce has developed into a pretty good two way combo guard. I agree Shamet sucked and Mitch is what he is. Knicks could have played Kolek more during the regular season however

I think Deuce is gone. Especially if we sign Westbrook. I think Kolek is a better fit with his ability as a floor general. 2nd unit shaping up. Hopefully Mitch is brought back.
Except Kolek hasnt shown he's an NBA player yet so there's that. Hopefully that was all Thibs and/or Kolek just needs more time

I think Kolek just needs to get his 3 point shooting up and to start looking for his shot more. Defenders were backing off him when he kept forcing passes. He has to make them pay.
he's the consummate chucker. He's just not a good BB player for this league. He's great taking tons of shots on a tanking team. That being said he's basically Cam Payne x2. They basically do the same things but JC is def better than Cam so you can't hate on this signing.
It's def going to be the first challenge for the new coach "why doesnt he play Clarkson more? Dude was 6th man of the year!"
SPOILER: cause he sucks and when you want winning habits and culture this is the guy you bench first.
Im not cranky or anything. I hope he helps. Surely there were times last year we could have used anyone off the bench who can create offense. Maybe I have Mike Breen bias
I would take Wright as Brunson's backup over Payne/Clarkson/Kolek but Im also a boring old genx guy who values defense and taking care of the ball. Clarkson might be good to have in the mix. Might also be a player who thinks they are entitled for coming here. This is a vet min signing and if there's some assumption Clarkson is getting 6MOY type minutes it's a big no for me.

I honestly remember being excited for how good Frank would be when he did that also. I'll not be burned like this again!!!! I hope he gets there. Would really help us. Seeing is believing!
Vs. Indiana it was clear Knucks needed more ball handlers to beat the full court press, specifically, guys who could get the inbound and immediately get it into the halfcourt to put pressure on the defense. Knicks lacked this kind of player as Brunson isnt big enough to bully past guys and everyone else on the roster lacked the handle on the ball. Clarkson will be a big asset when theres full court pressure.

Hard to show anything when your coach is only giving you on average 7 mostly garbage time minutes per game.
Kolek still managed to show he was the best playmaker on the roster, as a rookie. Thats enough for me to want to see him get a legit chance next season to make the rotation.
If Im concerned about anything, its Kolek's D. It improved a little by the end of the season, but its going to take more to get PT I imagine. I'm guessing the offense will work itself out
Kolek should get his chance. He has to hit his shots. He is not fast enough to make plays unless defenders respect his shot.
We can blame Thibs all we want and speculate, but thats behind us.

All we do here is speculate!

Our bench was actually 9th in scoring per minute in the league last year. It's just they didn't get minutes, otherwise we would not be last in total bench scoring average.
Don't need to rush anything with Kolek. Kolek will lead the summer league team, play a lot in preseason and get his chance to show off his shot. IF he does, Clarkson is on a veteran min - salary isn't going to keep him ahead of Kolek. Similar situation to Austin Rivers/Quickley. That said Clarkson maybe occupies a different role since he can swing to off guard and so can Deuce.
