Knicks · Mike Brown will be the next NY Knicks coach (page 11)

Boooo

Amid interest from Knicks, MIN assistant Pablo Prigioni decided to stay with T Wolves, citing family reasons, league sources tell SNY. One coach squarely on NYK radar for an assistant job under Mike Brown? Clippers assistant coach Brendan O’Connor, league sources tell SNY. O’Connor has strong defensive acumen, has worked for LAC under Ty Lue and Doc Rivers. Knicks had previously targeted NOP’s James Borrego, DAL’s Jay Triano, Prigioni and others for assistant position under Brown. They will presumably continue to look for an assistant to help on offense even if they add O’Connor to help guide the defense.

Trade Randle, Minnesota. He's hot garbage.

Pablo turned KAT into a defensive demon!!!

Nick Thibs is Toms nephew was an intern and an assistant video coordinator. Very low level and nepo but he did get his foot in the door and if he did a good job someone will notice.

I'd imagine uncle Thibs will not see him kicked out of his apartment.

Im sure if the guys being let go have contracts they will be paid as per details.
I would imagine some of them had a heads up that the gig would last thru summer league but would be granted permission to interview if desired.

Pablo really must like the Mall of America. There is a great jerk chicken place there.

Yeah but I’m telling you this place at the food court in the mall of America is killer. And then you can have boba tea for dessert next place over.

Overlooked reason for replacing Thibs with Mike Brown:

Minutes usage during regular season.

Knicks got lucky with injuries or lack thereof last season. We need our guys fresh for the playoffs I’d rather be the 5th seed and have a healthy OG and KAT for the playoffs then the 4th seed and be missing major players.

Having 3 guys in the top 5 for minutes per game - and all 5 starters in the top 25 in minutes per game - is just ridiculous honestly. That's just not responsible marathon NBA basketball. I don't think that was the reason he was fired, but I'm sure it was baked into the whole "Thibs won't listen to anybody about anything" vibe put out by the FO. And eventually that kind of burn would take its toll on these guys. The style of play was also grueling, specifically on offense. Just think about how hard Brunson and KAT had to work to get buckets.

Randle got the shoulder injury a couple years ago when he was left in garbage time of a game we were comfortably ahead by Thibs

.

Context:

1. Its not overlooked Thibs played his guys big minutes. Its been well discussed even before he was hired to be knicks coach.
2. Knicks were 29-17 coming to the end of january. They had blown out Defending champ Denver at home two nights earlier and were well on their way to another victory. Not like it was 2nd of a back to back. Jules had played 30 minutes in that Denver game.
3. Miami still had Bam and Butler in the game. They had not taken their starters out with 4:30 when the injuury occured. Have we not learned in the NBA leads with 5 min or so are not safe at some levels? Was it really "garbage time"? Jimmy Butler don't play garbage time.

Last year Knicks played its guys big minutes with a limited bench. It was no surprise as every pundit in the land "hated" on our lack of depth. Still we played rather healthy most of the year and made it to the ECF's on talent.
Thibs was fired for not bring the chemistry together. Playing big minutes might have factored into logic but if you look at max players in their primes they play big minutes. I'm not dismissing it could be a factor but only if FO was not happy with it.

Conclusion: Thibs was fired. That injury to Jules was a contact vs. a fatigue non contact injury. It could have occured any time. It was not meaningless minutes as Miami had not pulled it starters.

This is not a troll. This is a retort that ones opinion lacks the content and one can see by the video the starters were in the game for Miami and the box score demonstrates they too played their big guns big minutes that game. It was Not garbage time. Not until Miami surrenders. They had yet to.

A 17 point lead with over four minutes is definitely not a sure thing.

That injury cost us a championship. ****ing Jaime.

Yet its been said many times over and over the last two years and look at you making a simple statement to the contrary.
I did not "Try to debunk" what you said. I proved it.
Your response indicates it made you feel uncomfortable.
Why is that?

Lots of good league buzz about potentially bringing Brendan O'Connor as "Defensive Coordinator." Strong track record with the Clippers and with Larry Brown in Detroit.

If he can help improve our 3 point defense, I'll be on the bandwagon in a blink of an eye.

Chris Jent - once a Knick always a Knick - remember him from the end of the bench in the 90s, and now he's been coaching all this time and could find his way back. By all accounts he has paid his dues. Hopefully we can get him in. Weinar already took himself out of the running.

Knicks have been in an awkward position with assistants. When Thibs was fired this offseason - no other coach in the NBA was fired. Meaning - there were no other coaching staffs let go that were essentially free agents to hire from. Therefore the Knicks had to pick from assistants who mostly already had jobs. Not easy to hire people unless you could offer a title promotion which is marginal.
