So glad we fired Thibs without a plan, and to make a couple of mediocre players happy!

We don't know how things are in that locker room and in practices, but two points on this:

1. He doesn't have to inspire confidence in press conferences. I have no problem with him tip-toeing on being mad but trying to give the media-approved responses.

2. This isn't a young team. This is supposed to be a veteran team that buys into the system in place, like they seemed to be doing in 2025, instead of being the mentally weak team they constantly turn into (because we saw this last year too). This was supposed to be a battle-tested team on the rise, but yet again their character is in question and everything is unraveling like it has before.

This wasn't supposed to be a mentally weak team. Last season's struggles were attributed to a big new piece (KAT) still integrating to the team dynamic. But a playoff run later, different things were expected. I'm not trying to defend Brown, I just fully believe this is mostly on the players. I thought we would enjoy a year where we would finally want to keep the team together to grow stronger and closer, but something is rotten here and it was since last year.

Brunson left the court when subbed out at 2:43 mark. I believe I saw clarkson follow him.
What was that about? Frustration about the game? Coach? His teammates?

WTF is happening after a really nice start to the season? If not for that last nights game was the kind of shit that gets coaches fired.
MIke Brown is too nice? I get what Matt Barnes is saying, and I get he might be a great 2nd chair guy but is this all on him? A veteran team walking over its coach? They win the Cup an got fat and sassy? They said they have not done anything but have acted like they did. Not saying I have a clue to what it is. I get Hart was hurt, I get KAT is morphing into a lumbering Embiid (hope not).

Is this a firable offense? Season is now half over and something has to give. Tracy McGrady said "Someone has to go". Did not say who. Player or coach? Knicks were kicking ass mostly feasting on lower rung teams. Getting blown out but Cooper Flag and NBA journeyman at MSG was a really bad look.

This is on Brown, the players, and Leon. Appears its not just one element for blame.

Maybe we can switch coaches?

Nalod @ 1/20/2026 6:35 PM
Remember when OKC went 5-5 in a stretch? OMG, right? Spo on the hot seat?

Now, Im not saying 2-9 after 24-9 start is anything IM thrilled about but does another coach really change things? Or is it about hope transfusion?
Not saying Brown has earned his tenure, but half a season in we dump him?
I know shit ain't right, but we pining our hopes on Sabonis? Dennis Schroeder? to fix it? I know fans are bipolar depending on the swing.
We bought the hype. It stings. We mad. We want something. Anything.

Replacing Brown does not fix anything, because the roster clearly is showing chemistry issues. If it really is one player like KAT then you replace him and see what happens. Swapping coaches first would be a giant blunder.

Is it too much to ask for out highest paid player to not make stupid fouls and not argue with refs ? That's all we need Towns to improve on. His d is a little better this year,so he is trending the right way there.

And this right here is what separates the really really really good from the elite. The mental side of the game.

MJ once said that basketball is 90% mental. I always thought it had to to with confidence when shooting and such. However, I could never properly understand it. But now I totally see it, Towns being a perfect example. All the talent in the world. Maybe the most talented player I have seen play. But mentally a 5th grader ...

And one has think he visits this and works on it? From his perspective if this has been an issue his whole career it will continue as will his critics. I get guys like Big Perk or Shaq on TV has to have a take and "Challage him". Makes for good TV engagement. I have said now a few weeks he looks like Ebiid out there and now putting a hurt on others. HE does get hit a lot and now wants to exact revenge? We used to call that "being tough"? That nobody came up to defend him vs. Draymond a sign? That or nobody wants to fuck with him or his mouth? Or a sign they are not all with KAT? To do so also escalates things, creates more tech's and can also take the focus off the game. Dray wants that.

ON a side note Mike Browns hug with Dray reported as bothering some on the knicks seems silly. He was second chair with that team for 6 years and won there. There is a bond. Take a moment to recognize relationships is not a crime. If Guys are bothered by that they "need to do their fucking jobs!" which is not to be over sensitive to a coach acknowledging a guy he coached for a long time! Brown is not grumpy like Thibs. The same guys that wanted Thibs gone the same as not wanting happy Mike Brown?

I like that Jalen is publically holding the players accountable. They are a veteran group and talented. The Best teams are not usually over coached but are given the latitude to figure it out. Phil Jax not only had talent on Bulls and lakers but alpha's that were drilled and able to adapt to the game and conquer. Thibs was too much a control freak to do that perhaps? Brown I think is trying and this team is not ready to as a group to get that. THis is why another coach might just be a sugar rush short term? Why a MIke Malone wore his ass out in Denver. He is cut like Thibs.

Vs Dallas I was ok with KATs beat down of Powell who put himself in that position to get hit by his defensive posture.

As for KAT, he is an emotional player. He smiles too. He wears his heart on this sleeve. He also wears his whiney side also. If he can find a middle ground that would be best. Maybe he has and this is all we gonna get? I so wanted his homecomiing to be a mutually beneficial and victorious relationship!

MY hope is this teams evolves into a collective that enjoys playing with and for each other. Maybe Brown sees this as part of the process and its up to the players how they come out of it? All the yelling and coaching cannot do this. Jalen seems to suggest its a player thing. Trades unless you blow it up won't do it.

Anyone else get the feeling KAT is Starks and Nelson is Brown?

If so then pehraps we learn from the past and keep the coach and rebuild?
Funny thing was over the next 3 years as Nellie said the team needed to a youngerand more athletic one and thats what happend. Dolan was scared losing Ewing would affect the gate at the time he was fired.
JVG only got to stay past 1999 because he had a crazy clause that put 2 year at 2mm per on his contract if they made the finals.
After a rough start they did in the strike short season. JVG HAD TO use Camby and by then had Spree. So Nellie was right. Because of JVG clause he prevailed as he fueded with Earnie was the architect of the team. JVG was and is a brilliant mind but pandered to Ewing and slowed the game down to make him happy as was it was his job. Perhaps as the team evolved and ewing grew old it was time to move on and JVG was not the right coach for that team.

So in the end Nellie grew and had a great run with his son as Dallas did just fine and eventually won a chip. Not with nellie at the helm but he and Donnie Jr. had built the roster and culture that won. He also learned to work with the "modern player".

Brown and nellie are very personable personalities. Starks was kind of a trip himself. He did not age great and had a rep for being selfish behind the scenes. On the court we all loved him.

Again, I don't know what the deal is but Brown comes with a lot of experience and demontrated a high acumen for the game. Some of his past and getting fired is not all on him but circumstances that perhaps at the time made sense.

Im not a good judge for calling for a coaching change so I don't have the cred to brag on. In time more info comes out and clarity is formed.

As for Nellie? It was the wrong move to fire him. But in the context of the moment and what ownership wanted I understand why they did it.

You know, when I posted this thread the day the he got hired, I didn't expect people would be discussing it would be in earnest 3 months into the season.

You Bring up some good points.
I mentioned on several Thibs threads and warned those wanting a fast paced, quick shooting offense which puts up a high volume of threes. Many don’t realize that in order for that type of offense to work, you have to make lots of threes. If not, it puts a lot of pressure on your defense via long defensive rebounds and many more possessions per game. Which is what we have seen during this bad stint. We are just not making shots like we did during good run.
This was the reason I did not get those complaining about Thibs. Considering most complaints were about his offense. Ignoring how much better our defense became under Thibs. Something we all wanted for years prior to his arrival.
Think we will get the shooting going again. Hopefully

SergioNYK @ 1/28/2026 9:17 AM
I'm not calling for Brown's job because we are 10 games over .500 and 3rd in the East. But I think he's fallen short and disappointed in several areas we were sure to improve on from Thibs. Especially the offense overall (9th in ppg, 17th in FG%, 23rd in FT attemtps, 13th in apg), the expanded rotation (back to 8 player rotation) and the usage of KAT.

If I had to say right now and I hate admitting this but I don't think we get out of the second round unless those areas above improve dramatically.

I think KAT seeing guys like Harden and LeBron going to the free throw line for defenders breathing on them the wrong way and is like “I’m getting hacked here driving to the basket where is the love?”

he's attempting more FT's per minutes played than ever before in his career. he's just a whiner.

All the Pro-Thibs / Anti-Brown agendas out in droves when the team is slumping and the chips seem down. Only thing that matters to me is how we fare in the playoffs. Thibs teams excelled during the regular season and fell short in the post season. I'll reserve judgement & criticism on Brown until after the season.
