Could help combat tanking. Big problem for league along w sketchy, inconsistent officiating

Teams did not tank in the past because teh gate suffered. Maybe the national TV money is a big factor as teams can afford to lose at the gate and in a year with quality players its just plain smart.

There is a gap between the playoff/play in teams and then it drops hard to the Tank teams. That gap perhaps is where its most obvious. Teams are not incentivized to tread water. you eitehr play up, or drop out. The new rules are should help to close it.
Since being the absolute worst does not give a team clear advantage I think more teams went there given the depth of draft.
I cannot fathom how dropping an NBA team to the Gleague can work seeing that GLeague teams are mostly owned by NBA owners.
In theory it works and is a hell of an idea, but its too punitive in reality.

I have to add Shai to the worst players to watch list. I am not sure if I put him over Joel or not yet.

Not good news this gives us a little bit less money to resign Mitch this coming offseason who will be a UFA. We also need to lock up Diawara who will be RFA and isn’t as known so that will be easier.

Alvarado is probably going to opt out which gives us an additional $4.5 million to play with. Shamet and Clarkson are probably both goners.

Hoping we can resign Mitch at 4 years $85 million.

Silver is running the league into the ground. Too many years of unlikable super teams and shady nonsense to help the lakers. The Luka trade and the mavericks coincidentally winning the lottery a couple months later with a 1% chance of winning stinks and everyone knows it. Silver does everything to help the lakers meanwhile all their games are on at 10PM EST or later. Just bad business.

If they do this expansion it will be bad overall for the league the talent will be further watered down.

In a bar watching march madness with fans dialed into the games. Why would anyone care about NBA? Where is the BAR? In an nba city? Chapel hill? Durham NC?

Writer points out American culture and yet global growth is fastest outside our borders.
I am dialed in less to both NCAA MENS and NBA. Less also for MLB and NFL. Perhaps in its place women’s game fills a causal vacuum? F1 racing? Tennis? We all different and demographics matter.

I agree with you that Silver is really bad and we all know that lopsided Luka trade was to revive the Lakers after years of poor management. When talking about helping teams I think he has done the Spurs an even bigger solid. Every top lotto pick team usually goes down a pick or two with the new flattening of the odds except the Mavs and Spurs. The Mavs was clearly payment for Luka and the Spurs always go up a pick or win the lotto when there is a generational player. There is no way they still have all this luck with flatened odds. The Spurs get Wemby, Castle and Harper in a short time and now they are set for the next decade.

This will not add to my recent popularity scores but PhilC needs to read into this: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PM...

The NBA presented three comprehensive anti-tanking concepts to its Board of Governors on Wednesday, with modifications expected to each before a formal vote in May, per ESPN sources.

1. 18 teams in draft lottery (seeds 7-15 in each conference) – flattened odds, with bottom 10 teams having an 8% chance, the remaining 20% odds distributed in decreasing order for 11 through 18, and and a lottery drawing for all 18 picks.

2) 22 teams in lottery using 2-year record (seeds 7-15, plus the four playoff first round exits in both conferences). Lottery teams would reach a minimum win total floor in each season, such as 25 wins. If a team falls short of the floor, it gets slotted to meet the floor. Top 4 drawn as part of lottery, as is currently.

3) 18 teams in a "5 by 5" lottery – bottom 5 teams have equal odds for the top pick, with lottery formed for picks 1-5. Bottom 5 teams have a floor at 10; those that fall out of top 5 get sorted in a separate drawing.

Considering multiple years is essential to prevent teams tanking just because their star is out for the year, and will return next.

Philly road win AT Charlotte with Embiid and PG13.
As it stands now both those teams in the playin. IF they prevail, they play the top two seeds.
PHilly and ATL are tied for the 6-7 and both just a half game behind Toronto at 5th.
We are two games up on Clev.
This play in thing extending the interest is pretty good this year. Out west is pretty much settled.
I'd say a first round with CLT or Philly is not a cake walk for any team.
I prefer CLT as I'd go with our veterans and Depth. As somwone said, "CLT is Det from last year". They are the "It team" that few saw coming. Not ready for prime time and perhaps on big man away from making a big splash next year.

Philly? Embiid on the floor with PG13 and Maxey is a very good team. Two HOF's! Maybe 3. Can they stay on the floor? Thats the question.
