Might be easier to resign Shamet.
We can’t have nice things.
Next year, when they sigh Shamet to his 3rd non guaranteed min contract, maybe he’ll make it past the guaranteed date. Or something

I think we're starting to see the real reason teams are hesitant to sign him to a guaranteed deal. These dings aren't flukes. He's injury prone

He was having a small sample sized career year too
Feel terrible for this guy. He was having his breakout moment.
This is just terrible luck. ...
My thoughts are he fit really well as a 5th piece with last years starters. He took on the role of POA pressure defender which moved Mikal off that role and into a role where he is getting blocks/steals galore off ball. We don’t have another guy to do that in place of Shamet … Deuce will be next up but Shamet gave you a little more size.
Shamet's contract isn't guaranteed til Jan, so we could possibly cut ties and sign Matthews back. We seem to have a good rapport with Shamet, things just haven't gone well here with his shoulder. But if he's healthy I think he will always get a chance here in the future.
The biggest L has been Yabu, wasting $6m and not even getting a rotation player out of it has been huge. We could have probably signed TWO decent vets instead of Yabu. Guys like THJR and Westbrook got vet min.

Shamet is basically playing himself out of the Knicks due to salary cap situation. This trade deadline is the fork in the road for the Knicks:
1. Commit to resigning Mitch which would bring us above the 2nd apron
2. Commit to trading Mitch, which may still put us up against the 2nd apron depending on what we get back
How does this relate to Shamet?
If Shamet keeps playing top notch basketball, the only way to bring him back is via an exception since we are 1 year short of his bird rights.
Exceptions are nullified once we go over 2nd Apron. If exception is used then it puts hard cap on the Knicks and there is no way to resign Mitch.
This salary cap situation is getting complex and to add even more tension Mitch is basically breaking rebounding records and proving he is the Defensive Anchor we appreciate him to be (When he is on the floor).
I can't remember a more consequential Trade Deadline for the Knicks, but the sad truth is this... it is impossible to have both Mitch and Shamet on the team past this season. Unless a Core rotational player is traded, like Josh hart or OG, which is not likely to happen.
Nothing against Shamet he’s playing really well but Mitch is the more important player. Rebounds, blocks shots, changes shots. Covers up defensive shortcomings of Brunson and KAT. Excellent offensive rebounder.
As good as Shamet is it’s easier to find a replacement.
Mitch Makes 13 mil and could command 20mm plus.
Not sure anyone was really saying its an either or situation.
He is the top offensive rebounder in the game but has injury history. The cunumdrum is all about when a player is doing well we want him. His trade value might be shit given the situation.
Super happy Shamet was killing it and the conversation is a circle jerk where he is doing good and we then sad we don't have him under control longer. Until he gets hurt.
Sucks as the kid possibly blew his shoulder out on a husltle play. LIke to see him get the surgery and fix it proper. He'll have a long road back. But itss early in the season and knicks really need to move on. He came back last year but it was very late.
Tough business to be in!
Yes Phil, Top offensive rebounders don't grow on trees and Mitch has a very top skill set. But your also forgetting the finanical aspects that Shamet at 2mm and the level of contribution he was playing out is not that easy to replace. Thing was he was not just chucking up high volume empty calorie stats. He was integrated with the schematic of our new offense.
Delon Wright or the likley aged out Alec Burks cannot fill that roll. Time for someone to step up. Its why they are knicks.
If not we have to make a trade.

Matthews is on the Pacers now
I would give Tosan a chance. Big wing who I thought played well for the Nets - he did at least play well in a game against us at the Barclays. We need size desperately
I like What Brown is doing with Diawa. Get him acclimated. Kid is super young.
Kolek just got a window. Time to shine. Maybe Reed Shepard slow start and now doing much better is a sign of hope?
Dadiet? In my opinion these guys can shoot but they are having to really assimilate to the pace and defense assignments were everyting is bigger and faster they they ever knew.
One of these guys step up we good. This until OG can come back.
If shamet is injured for most of the year, Knicks unfortunately need to release him (he’s non-guaranteed) and sign Malik Beasley to a similar contract.
Has Beasley been cleared of any and all gambling issues?
Im not making or morality play here, but if he is not and its coming its a distraction and he'll be suspended.
That nobody has signed him is curious.
Whats the over/under he is out of the woods?

forgot about him but yes I'd take a flyer on him. can always bring back Shamet next season or even later in the year on 10 days? not sure if allowed.
Most negative karma move of all time would be cutting Shamet's non-guaranteed deal if he gets surgery and signing impending criminal Malik Beasley
Wouldn't they know by now if it's torn or something? I hate how they make us wait for days to get an update!

I’m sure they do. I’d be surprised if he wasn’t waived. With the Knicks so close to the second apron, him being non-guaranteed is wiggle room the Knicks need.

agreed, if its torn he's being waived. But I think Shamet appreciates his time here and the way we bought him back after last years injuries. I hope its amicable and he's open to coming back next year. but surely he understands that we need to try to win this season.
Shams says another four weeks until Landrey gets re-evaluated for his shoulder "sprain."
