The chemistry and depth is really good on this team. It's hard to break it up - seismic moves don't always make you better, especially when they deplete the depth. Getting one more wing/big might be all we need. Beating OKC will be a long shot anyway, but this team has a shot against anyone. Giannis is almost 32 and getting injury prone, been hurt in the last few playoffs. Our guys are 3-4 years younger and our team is a contender. IDK if that's something you mess with. I also want no part of trading Kolek for a more seasoned guard like Alvarado. Kolek can do his job just fine and we have plenty of guard depth.
i agree, but if its straight up for KAT + filler it;s hard to pass that up.
but i'm fine where we are, we beat a healthy defending champs BOS team last year and we have a much better overall team this year.
i'm not even sure I trade Kolek for DDV at this point. Kolek has that TJ scrappy energy and he's a legit pure PG which is something this roster doesn't have. He makes some really great passes and reads out there. He's also young, hungry and cheap.
Yabu + Dadiet + the WSH picks should be able to get us a really good $10m ish player.
I agree that KAT + filler would be hard to pass up, but our chemistry with KAT is starting to gel so it is very risky to eff with that.
Giannis is an upgrade on defense and he makes fewer dumb mistakes than KAT (and he is treated like a god by the refs).
Giannis would not lead the league in scoring with our squad. We have too many mouths to feed.
But I enjoy watching Brunson, Bridges, OG, Deuce and Kolek so much I really don't want any of them to go.
And we're already the best team in the East with plenty of room for improvement.
I think the only question to ask about a Giannis trade is:
Does he help us beat OKC and the other top teams in the West in the Finals?
If you think we can slay OKC with KAT then maybe we should roll with this current roster.
If there was a KAT/Giannis swap with extras, either the Knicks as a team or Giannis would have to majorly change their game. Giannis usage is 37%. KAT usage is 26%. Brunson is at 31%.
The Knicks would probably turn from an offensive heavy team to something more even between defense and offense.
Knicks would gain an elite driver. Knicks would gain ball handling. Knicks would gain defense.
Knicks would lose spacing. No idea how that would effect Brunson, OG, Mikal, Hart as cutters and mid range but think more in line with iHart and Randle version of Knicks.
Knicks would presumably lose depth.
I'd guess that Giannis would need to really change his game to fit into what the Knicks got going on instead of the other way around?
Even in a 1-for-1 swap this year, it's a bet on being able to adjust and fit going into the last stretch of the season, big risk I think.
