Knicks · Is it me or is Shamet better than Bridges? (page 1)
Landry has had two good games. We win.
Mikal looks off. So the contrast is.
Did Mikal come up big vs Boston last year defensively? Is that gone for good?
Landry had a good game. A really good game.
Did Mikal also guard Edgecome? He was shut down for a good part of the game.
His legs look tired on his shot. Maybe needs less minutes or he a bit injured?
This fan cannot suggest he end the Iron man thing. Source of pride I believe he held the high school and college also. He is currently 11th and by seasons end could be 8th. By contrast he is still just 50% to breaking AC Greens record.
As for the trade, It will take years to really say the outcome being "Worth it". The team went to conf finals last year. Thats matters. WE don't know the draft position nor quality of player available. Then did they develop or not? The very notion of being disappointed at the moment is becuase we did well last year and have expectations . Why? We have a good team. Bank the memory of Mikal two defensive gems vs. Boston last year.
Nalod a big Landry fan. Remember when he was on the fence for the last spot vs. Ryan? I was vocal about it being our guy and making good from last year. Super happy to root for him and see him have a good moment. Suprised how well he has returned from that shoulder injury!
Is he better? Saturday he was!!!
Knixkik wrote:Shamet is really good. But Bridges coasts in the regular season. We have to understand these vets with playoff expectations are not going to play hard for 82 games. The minimum guys will though.
The statistics show that Bridges has coasted the entire month of January and has been invisible in 4th quarters. It’s not a good look for him plus he’s soft as hell and avoids contact when driving to the rim. Haven’t been a fan and wouldn’t miss him if he were traded

Well , objectively he had 2 defensive plays to hang his hat on in that Boston series. Both coming with less than a minute left. Honestly, I will be the first one to say those defensive plays did not win us the game. They were overrated. Sue me. When the opponent is forced to take a tough shot to tie or win the game that means you have not done your job to put them away, but it also means that the pressure is on them. You don't need to block him unless he is MJ or Bird. Usually. And no, Laundry did not just have 2 good games. As a matter of fact he had probably 2 bad games his whole time here . Mikal? Mikal has had months where he is below average. But he plays every game. Watch Mikal fight over a screen. He seems to ask permission every time " do you mind?" Shamet just goes. Shamet makes screeners move when he fights over. Mikal? " oh, sry I was just trying, no problem, I'll just lag behind, nevermind me please"
Mikal's length and instincts are rare, but he just isnt locked in all the time and avoids contact. The streak IMO is an issue.

I believe the term is ‘aloof’
I say trade him while he still has value. Because teams will catch on and we will be stuck with him .
He’s not a bad player he’s just very mid… and we traded a ton of first for him.
Mikal has been below his average since Jan 1; the whole team has outside of maybe Deuce. Before that, for 33 games playing 35 minutes a game, Mikal played like an all star.

16ppg, 40% from 3, 4.4 assists for 1 TO, 4.5 rebounds.
Every other player on team has missed 3 or more games and, outside of Jalen, has averaged ~32mpg or less. Mikel doing about 35mpg. For season.
During January, Josh missed 6 game, Shamet 7, Brunson 2. Of 12 total. During January OG, KAT have sucked ass shooting, and for whatever reason Deuce only plays 30mpg. Mikal shows up.

Mikal has been carrying the load minutes wise across the season like none of his teammates. Fault him for his tendency to shy away from contact but there are real pluses to showing up for every game.
He is probably exhausted but still keeps showing up. Generally, all the staters have not played up to or close to their norm in Jan. Complain about the one guy who is putting in the work.
He needs the all star break like no other.

You obviously are not looking for input, your looking for validation.
Look, doe he win those games vs. Boston? If your looking for agreement, of course not.
Isn't that what its all about though? The playoffs?
You can shit on KAT, but he made Allstar and all nba last year, and the team was sucessful.
Going thru a 2-9 stretch does not invalidate what happend last year does it? If not for KAT and Mikal we'd be better?
Just becuase we were favored this year to win the east is not the same as saying "we supposed to....."
You might not miss him via a trade, but for who?

Rarity? RARITY? I bet my lunch he is dead last out of all NBA starters in trips to the line. I would be surprised if it wasn't so

You know, it actually goes both ways. I am not as interested in opinions that cannot be arguemented as I am interested in a discussion where my own opinion can be swayed. The idea that Shamet might be better is presumptuous, almost inconceivable but yet here we are. And it's worth addressing, I think. I am not saying Bridges sucks, far from it. I am saying that perhaps he is kinda overrated and I am not in love with him like I am with Brunson, Hart, Deuce,Shamet and OG. + Mitch , to a lesser degree ( make those free throws man)
Shamet has been missing, Kolek’s weiner shriveled in the winter cold, and Clarkson Yabu are nada.
One imbalance begets another.
But doing so would make management look really bad we gave up a ton to get bridges. But maybe coming off the bench would be a wake up call and light a fire under bridges, coming off the bench would give him more of a green light .
There's been this debate over whether Deuce should start over Hart. Deuce doesn't do the Hart things as well (Rebound, playmaking).
So there's absolutely an argument for Deuce to start over Mikal and not Hart.

Ok, let's take this thought and run with it. Agree that maybe moving Bridges to the bench for a few games might light a fire. Either that or cause discontent. Either would be better than coasting, which I feel he is doing now. If he gets upset with benching then there is going to be a reaction. Bridges being a grownup I expect an adult reaction. We need that for the second half of the season playoff push.

Benching a player for a month of bad games would be disastrous for a team. It’s why coaches don’t do it to guys at that level.
It’s a sure fire way for a coach to get fired or lose his whole team and then get fired. This is like coaching 202.

Good thing I am not a coach then. Screw that. Let's just have Bridges coast off of his amazing accolades. Like he is a superstar that's living out his legacy towards retirement. His achievements include:
1) 5 first round picks
2) The Streak
3) Two way player
4) ....drawing blanks here, those two plays in the Celtics series maybe?
Forgot one
5)the Villanova connection. Of course
Btw ,I didn't want this to become a "$hit on Bridges"thread. I actually like him because of point number 3 on my list. I just feel like Shamet might be a better player, that's all

He needs the all star break like no other.
Mikal was having close to an All-Star start this season. His recent drop-off is disappointing, but he and OG had incredibly good starts and then OG got hurt and sat.
Bridges looks tired. His vanity will prevent him from taking games off due to the iron man record, but that's what he needs.
Get back to me 10 days after the All-Star Break. He needs a lapdance a rest.
Also, Bridges won two games in the playoffs last year with game clinching defensive plays.
If disappears in the playoffs, then his trade was a flop. Until then, there are bigger chemistry issues to deal with like having a starting center who plays defense so him and OG are not required to overcompensate for the defensive effort on the starting unit.
How quickly we forget how well Bridges was playing before this TEAM slump. I appreciate Shamet but he and Bridges are NOT on the same level.
Bridges (and OG) have the responsibility of guarding their opponents top offensive players and, at times, make up for Brunsons and KAT LACK of defensive prowess. That will affect their offense game at times.
There was an earlier episode on the HART/Brunson podcast where Hart talks about why he sacrifices his offensive game because it’s so hard to be a “2 way” player.
