Knicks · OKC testing the trade market for iHart (page 1)

martin @ 1/30/2026 11:27 AM

I take this as for this deadline and whether they can opt-in on contract and move him for next season.

OKC salary structure next year is whack, estimated tax bill at ~$180M without moves.

Okc has to start making decisions on these guys, mainly Ihart and Dort, and seems like they are trying to get ahead of it. They have also come down to earth a bit. Not as invincible. I’d love to find a way to get Hartenstein back.

Yep

I don't watch them but their 3point shooting has been much below what you'd expect. And of course they missing Jalen Williams and iHart for about half of the season.

OKC got like 4 picks in this upcoming draft too

nycericanguy @ 1/30/2026 11:57 AM
I mean what would they want? they have all the picks, and if they are trading him its to save salary so what would they want? An expiring and yet more picks?

If you could route KAT to a 3rd team and give OKC what they wanted for Ihart I would do it in a heartbeat but seems very complicated.

100%!!

I mentioned trading KAT for iHart in the "There's going to be a trade" thread. fwk00 made a good point that KAT might not be a culture fit there.
What about trading Mitch and keeping KAT? Mitch is an expiring. Obviously would need to do more to match salaries and/or get them more picks (with a 3rd team)

I wouldn’t trade Mitch. He’s so important to what this team lacks. If we did some sort of KAT deal to get back Hartenstein, maybe KAT goes to charlotte, a bunch of depth to Okc, and Hartenstein to the Knicks. Maybe we could get Sexton back in the deal to add bench scoring/ playmaking.

KAT, Clarkson to Charlotte
Kalkbrenner, Grant Williams, Connaughton to okc, plus a Charlotte pick
Hartenstein and Sexton to the Knicks

Why does okc do this though? Maybe they want to break Hartenstein up into depth pieces and like Kalkbrenner as a young center on a minimum contract over the next few years to back up Holmgren. Just a thought.

KAT makes twice the money as Hartenstein so making that work is almost impossible.
nycericanguy @ 1/30/2026 12:39 PM
If MIA misses out on Giannis... how about...

MIA - KAT
NY - IHart, Wiggins
OKC - Ware (good young cheap C) and Rozier (expiring contract)

If we took back Caruso in the deal it would work

why would OKC trade for MORE salary and worse fits? if they are wanting to move Ihart its for salary relief.

Man I'd love to see this lineup for Knicks

I agree. When I mentioned in other thread, I wasn't sure how KAT's option next year worked and if OKC could get out of the deal then. If they could get out, then it might make sense for them.

Caruso is the kind of dawg this team needs

First off Chet is healthy. he was not last year. Even for the playoffs.
All temas go through bad times. Not all freak the fuck out and trade its all NBA player.
OKC won its chip. Small market has to be cool about its cap. Chet extension hits next year.
OKC figuring Jaylin Williams, and their other back up are doing the job.
They also think Chet starting at the c works.
And maybe iHart is not as valued this year. But if they hope to win back to back one has to be curious why they doing this when they carry a team option, and have 4 picks for next year? If its about chips, why move iHart now? He only played in 25 games?
HIs pts and rebounding are still good. They worried about durabilty?
Y'all think under brown he can come back and re-create the magic of his great HALF season here?
NardDogNation @ 1/30/2026 4:37 PM
I'm on board. I think the key to getting iHart back is by trading KAT and then re-routing some of the return to DAL for Daniel Gafford. He lacks the facilitation aspects to Hartenstein's game but is a similarly strong rebounder, defender and superior rim runner. Gafford's contract would be perfect for them because they'd have cost-control on him for the next 3 seasons, at a fraction ($17.2-$19.9 million) of what they are paying iHart. As an Arkansas native and a guy with pedigree having started in a recent Finals, I think that Gafford would fit like a glove. He's be the next best thing against Jokic if/when DEN plays them in the playoffs.

The deal?

KAT to CHI
Vucevic (expiring), Dalen Terry (expiring) and that 2026 WAS 1st round pick to DAL
iHart, Caleb Martin or Klay Thompson's awful contract and other expiring contracts from CHI to NYK

gradyandrew @ 1/31/2026 12:12 AM
IHarts contract was designed to be used as trade ballast in case Giannis became available. They shouldn't mess with the plan yet.

I would do this.

I think some of you severely overrate Hartenstein. He was and is a good and solid player but I don't think he's this floor raiser. He was pretty awful too in that 2024 series against the Hicks.

Not to mention dominated and obliterated by Joel Embid.
