Knicks · ECF Game 4: Knicks @ Cavs, SWEEP THE LEG! 5/25 8pm (ESPN) (page 15)

But I don't see how he didn't just earn himself a bag. 3&D and big playoff performances.
Knicks can offer him up to $15.6mil with early bird rights. But don't know if they would be willing to do that unless they are willing to part with both Deuce & Mitch.
In these playoffs, his TS% (72.6%) and 3-point percentage (54.8%) are hyper-elite, driven by his blistering 17-for-21 stretch from deep over his last six games.
Finally a shooter I can compare to Steve Novak off the bench, only Shamet plays good defense!
Such a good feel good story is Shamet, I'm so happy for him. Enjoy the moment, young man!!!
Maybe it’s cause he was hurt so much last year but his defense came out of nowhere? I don’t recall this level from him previously, maybe even from earlier this year

the way we push the ball even after made baskets and just fly down court, the amount of easy baskets off cuts and off made basket transistions, its not something i've ever seen before from ANY team. this level of dominance feels like its literally never happened, because it HASNT. We are beating teams by 30-40 every night in the freakin playoffs. just unreal.
and teams have tried to adjust, cutting off the back door, playing zone, doubling Brunson. but it just seems like defenses have to pick their poison because they cant stop everything and we can win so many different ways. and if all else fails, then we have ISO Brunson to go to and one of the most cold blooded killers I've seen since MJ... yes I said it.
defensively we've been great, but we havent had to be because all these games have been blowouts, but we've shown that when we need to dial it up we can. I mean I think we can have the best defense in the NBA when need be. just lock down.

yea if we can offer up to 15.6m then there's a happy medium to be found. Maybe 3/30m ish. he's one of those guys that despite always playing well never seemed to be that valued. He's really become the DDV replacement I thought he could be, dare i say maybe even better.

So are other teams going to try to emulate the 2026 Knicks next year and years coming, like they did the GSW for the past 10 years?
Enjoy it cause this is a once in a lifetime run! That's now 11 playoff wins in a row! And we're not just beating teams, we are annihilating them! We are going on these crazy runs, including a 20-0 run late in the 1st, to make teams QUIT! We have NEVER seen a team dominate like this! The '96 Bulls and the '16 Warriors were not doing this! We had 33 fast break points and outrebounded them 60-33! The bench scored 58 points!
Landry Shamet was so good! 4/4 from three! Suffocated Spida all series! KAT played so hungry too! That sequence with the block on one end and hitting a three at the other was one of my favs. OG played and looked 100% healthy which is a great sign. He was running up and down the court like a deer and had that nice one hand alley-oop dunk from Brunson and that put back dunk too. Mikal came back down to earth and didn't shoot it almost perfect but made enough and still had such a strong series. Hart was Hart.
Surreal to see Clyde and especially Ewing, my childhood hero, present that trophy to Brunson. I'm so glad Ewing get's to be a part of this and experience it. The whole story of Brunson being in that locker room with Ewing and watching his dad Rick on that 1999 team and now he's the captain and leader of this team is just amazing. They will write books and make movies out of this!
So happy for Mike Brown too! He was our first choice as coach but he ended up being the best choice the way he's got this team playing. The way he handled the media and personalities in the locker room is to be admired.
I have to say I was surprised we didn't celebrate and pop bottles after this. They looked happy of course but not satisfied. That tells me they want that bigger trophy and those rings! And I know the haters and media will go on to tell us we don't stand a chance against either OKC or San Antonio. LET THEM KEEP DOUBTING US!!! THE 2026 EASTERN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS WILL BE READY!!!

I did notice that they did not run the offense through KAT last night as much as in prior series. Wonder why? Was it an adjustment to a Cav's adjustment or personnel?
Evan Mobley, with Jarret Allen roaming at times. Evan is an All NBA Defender type with long arms and that’s disruptive enough. And then combine that with attacking James Harden and his weak ass defense, followed by Donovan and Merril.
Knicks had options

100% to everything you’ve said, including the Shamet over Deuce scenario

KAT is the 5 out spacer and passer and rebounder and defender that you can’t easily replicate. He is the shimmy that adds to the shake that other teams don’t got and most other skinny girls wish they got that level of back.

I think the question we (Knicks FO) need to ask ourselves is do we think Deuce can TURN INTO a Shamet type outside shooter. Would like to keep Shamet is going to command a big raise and Deuce is about 4 years younger

How about this take: if Dolan don’t care about the second apron, bring back everyone, and then next offseason Dolan has to pay everyone’s extensions at triple the price of their contracts (Mitch Deuce Shamet and rookies)?
If that’s too much, got to figure out the best path forward to keep this going, and unfortunately that means moving some dudes. Double unfortunate is the fact that Deuce is the easiest to move because of his age, contract, and play; there is just no two ways around that outside of moving a starter.

He won't become a shooter like Shamet whose quick release and ability to shoot from any physical set is very advanced. Deuce is a set shooter with a bit of a windup who jumps high enough to clear most defenders. The style we're playing now favors Shamet considerably.
Deuce was a high percentage shooter this season so he's certainly no slouch there.
The areas Deuce could improve are his handle and what he does with the dribble. He tends to meander or dribble to find a spot to turn and pop. Shamet is crisp in his decision making and attacks the rim without hesitation. And he has the size to convert at the rim. Deuce gets turned back at the rim fairly often.
Deuce cannot make up for the height difference. Shamet is a bigger and stronger guy who can defend 3 to 4 positions. Deuce can only guard 1 to 2 positions.
Shamet is a better player. Even if Deuce improves his game, his size is still a factor in a league that favors bigger swing-sized players and wings.

If it's only $$$ penalty then you have to take this route.
Tho, Pacome can probably get moved if he not gonna really play, at his $3mil cost. Plus Mo needs to be signed for 2 more years to hold his rights.
When it comes to Deuce, it may be better to move him as you can get an asset back for the long term over losing him for nothing.

Knicks FO is probably weighing what is better.
Keep Deuce for an entire extra year from now, and maybe you lose him for nothing but absolutely get another playoff run with him. That is a possibility. Extend him now and it’s trickier to trade him this upcoming season? I’m not sure. Trade Deuce this offseason and lose Shamet for whatever reason, you are hosed. Trade Deuce (and possibly more) now for a rookie contract and maybe you are trading him at peak value and get someone on a 4 year cost controlled contract and you have room to extend Shamet when his bird rights kick in; Shamet just turned 29 and easily could have 3+ more years at this level as a backup SG. That rookie better provide value within a year or so, you can’t do the Dillingham thing ala Minny. Walt gotta get that one correct.
Maybe McCullar with Shamet in front of him off bench is good enough and much more cost controlled than Deuce. Deuce and Shamet both have been injury prone over last 2 seasons.
Lots of options to weigh.
