He is back. Good resigning.
Robert Sanchez wrote this for SNY.tv:
Landry Shamet is staying in New York, agreeing to a four-year, $24 million contract with the Knicks, confirms SNY NBA Insider Ian Begley.
The deal was first reported by ESPN's Shams Charania.
Begley also reports that Shamet's decision to re-sign with the Knicks and avoid free agency means that he turned down the opportunity for bigger offers elsewhere to defend the title -- offers that were coming had he become a free agent.
Instead, the shooting guard will remain in New York for the long-term after spending the last two seasons with the Knicks and averaging 7.5 points in 101 games (12 starts).
According to Begley, bringing back Shamet was a priority for the club. He becomes the second player to return after winning the NBA Finals following the contract extension to Jose Alvarado.
If the Knicks stay under the second apron, it will be very difficult for them to retain Mitchell Robinson now, per Begley.
Shamet has played for six teams in his eight-year career and has averaged 8.4 points across 449 games (109 starts). During that time, he's also made the playoffs seven times and is a great option off the bench.
To be honest, he earned a larger contract than that. Don't let the minimum contracts skew his value.
Welcome home, Landry!
If a team is contacting a player before free agency, would that be considered tampering?
Amazing value. Shamet and Alvarado are great, cheap rotation players. In addition to Deuce.

Absolutely. But agents are calling around and getting a sense of interested teams.
I like it but a little bummed about Mitch being the odd man out.
Fantastic news and totally unexpected
Landry was by far the best player off the bench this season.
When he returned from his injury mid-season, he was the person who shook the Knicks out of that horrible stretch when they were mostly losing over a three week period.
Shamet came back and the Knicks defense took off which was when their rankings defensively actually climbed to top of the league. Shamet was responsible for this jolt to the team.
He's very tenacious on defense, big, very strong and with very good lateral movement. He's the glue guy who brought this team together when things were falling apart.
And I'm not even talking about his shooting which propelled us during the playoffs. In the regular season, it was his three pointers that often broken open games for the Knicks.
Great news. Landry is a legit sixth man and a true extension of our starting unit.
Best wishes to Mitch, but TBH between the two Landry is the more important player.
Tylel Nickel has a good mentor now

I would've prioritized Mitch even if it meant losing GTA and Shammy but you have to trust Leon.

Prioritizing Mitch either means you keep them all and go over the 2nd apron.
Or you cut ties with Deuce, Alvarado, Shamet, Dadiet and fill their spots with rookie min salaries of $1.38mil and try to convince him to sign for $13mil per.
Brunson GTA Kolek
Mikal Shamet Deuce
Something got to give, right? Seems like a lot of smaller guards.

Was scouring through teams but don't see the player for player deal for Deuce. GTA & Shamet kind of make him redundant and forces the Knicks to run smaller wings. But we also probably gonsa lose Mitch to cover with elite rebounding and rim protection.
At the same time trading Deuce for future draft capital probably isn't what the team looking to contend for another chip gonna do.
Also we have 3 roster spot left with Huk most likely going to take one of them. Then a vet big will take another. That leaves 1 rosters spot for McCullar, Kayil, Nickel or vet FA to fight for.

Really an amazing story when you think about it!
