I thought Knecht was on his way to being a star after seeing him play his rookie year, but, after researching the issue, he fell out of the rotation with the Lakers because he was terrible on defense and was messing up plays on offense. Perhaps that was youth and just a lack of focus. If he can get his head on straight and commit to the details of the game, he has chance to be a real good player because he has a solid offensive game. That being said, I like Tyler Nichols and think he has a chance to be good too (and probably a much better defensive player). So Nichols and Knecht will battle it out to see who can become that 3pt specialist off the bench at SF.

This was a good club for McCullar in the sense of being given time to rehab out of college

It was also a bad club for him opportunity wise

He should be able to find his way into another system somewhere and be a solid contributor

He will he’s basically a Hart clone. Like you guys said the opportunity for minutes just wasn’t there for him here and Rose likes this Knecht guy

I keep seeing this Hart- clone thing, which I don’t get. The things that make Hart great, McCullar does not do those things at all. I viewed McCullar more in the range of the Martin twins. And the Martin twins were good at their best. They did just enough things well as wings to break into rotations in the right situation. But both showed some shooting flashes that McCullar hasn’t gotten to. But Hart is a different breed. Elite rebounder, playmaker and fast break igniter. McCullar isn’t those things.

Josh Hart is a physical force with a whole lot of Dog in him!
Very strong kid who uses instinct and physicality over fundamentals.
His game is not pretty. But he is effective.
McCullar is not a clone of Hart. His build is not the same. He has a polisihed offensive game but is not quick enough or strong enough to get it done at the NBA level. Question is do we end that sentanence with the word "Yet"? Im sure we all wish him well and hope he lands on a team where he can succeed. I have not read anyone has picked him up.
On the other hand Sochan has not. He went no. 1 in G-league draft few days ago.

Knecht has shown offensive proficiancy at the NBA level. Defense and maybe his build needs more upgrade. Im not intimate enough with Lakers to comment on their roster or his relationship with JJ Reddick.

Speaking of projects.......Diawra not played yet?

There were times during his rookie year when dalton looked like the steal of the draft

Change of scenery may be great for him. Surprised he was released and that we got him

Based on absolutely no facts I’m assuming reddick was behind this move in some form of I’m the boss moment. Maybe dalton mouthed off to him in practice or something

Change of scenery seems to working out for JJ McCarthy.

I know it's only one game and a crazy 4th quarter but so far, JJM > Dart

I like getting Knecht a lot

I think we've already seen his ceiling.... but I do think he can play and this will be an end-of-bench upgrade

For all we know this gives us flexiblity to perhaps make a trade.
All the while give this kid time to rebuild his confidence and perhaps get into better shape?
Panos @ 10/27/2026 10:11 PM
Why is McCullar in the box score tonight? Wasn't he waived?

..... so we can continue to debate whether he has a future with the Knicks?

You don't waive McCullar, he waives you!
