looks like Peavy might be out of the question... sounds like he's gonna be dealt to the Braves or the Cubbies:

New York Yankees can rule out Jake Peavy , columnist says

November 7
Newark Star-Ledger

"When NJ.com posted news of Jake Peavy adding the New York Yankees to his trade list, fans and commentors called it a long shot. Today's New York Post suggests Peavy won't see pinstripes in 2009. According to Joel Sherman, San Diego Padres' GM Kevin Towers has set the wheels in motion for a trade to either the Atlanta Braves or Chicago Cubs, two of Peavy's top choices for next season. There is even a chance that Peavy will be dealt before the winter meetings in early December:Towers spoke to Peavy's agent, Barry Axelrod, on Wednesday night to inform him of the progress and to ask Axelrod to get assurance from Peavy that it was OK to finalize a trade to one of these teams. Towers said, "We got the thumbs up."If that's not enough to convince you that Peavy has no interest in the Yankees, then Sherman is sure to clear that up:Despite reports to the contrary, the Yanks are not in the Peavy market. He has a no-trade clause and does not want to pitch in the AL."

I saw this too. A shame. We still might not be totally out of it though. Trade talks break down all the time. Until Cash comes out and says it's completely dead or he actually gets traded then I'll turn the page. Until then...... Towers supposedly really likes our prospects from what I read. He's probably just asking for the moon & the Yankees drew the line on him at some point. We'll be finding out soon I guess. Have a feeling it's not 100% dead yet - not until the fat lady sings....

I hope he goes to Atlanta if that's the way he feels and not' chicago. I want the longest losing record to continue.

Matt Holliday might be on his way to the A's for a package including Huston Street & a couple other players.
4949 @ 11/10/2008 9:12 PM
Now there's a guy, Matt, that I'd like to come to the Yankees. That dude can hit the ball, goes to an awful lot of at bats and can steal you some bases. I wonder how his fielding is?

Street's got a high ERA. Almost 4.5 earned runs a game. And he's not even a starter.
TMS @ 11/10/2008 9:28 PM
Olney's saying that it could be a 1 & done type trade for the A's, meaning they'd look to dump him at the trade deadline next year for prospects if they're not in contention.
4949 @ 11/10/2008 9:38 PM
What do you think about them dumping him here in NY?
TMS @ 11/10/2008 11:51 PM
would love for that to happen but we need a guy to start the season on the roster... we can explore mid season trade options when the time arises.
VDesai @ 11/11/2008 12:41 AM
Was never interested in Holiday. You gotta have some guts to invest a lot in a player that hasn't had established success pre-Colorado. Several of those guys haven't done too well elsewhere.

I'd bet Manny outperforms him in the AL over the next 3 years anyway
VDesai @ 11/11/2008 12:49 AM
On another note, would've liked to go after Josh Willingham and Scott Olsen who the Marlins let go for some low minor leaguers. Olsen is a decent lefty with some upside and Willingham has some pretty good plate discipline and a useful bat.
TMS @ 11/11/2008 12:51 AM
ur probably right at that... but then u don't face the potential issues w/Holliday w/his antics that u risk w/Manny either... u know i would love to bring Manny here so either way, we could use 1 of these guys to upgrade our offense... i seriously hope we hear some good news soon cuz the longer we wait, the more players come off the trade & free agent market.

The new technology: The Cisco people are very sharp and gave a great presentation. The 1,100 flat screen, HD monitor around the Stadium can be individually programmed with real-time stats, traffic information, weather, etc. The entire Stadium will have high-speed wireless. The long-range plan is that once we’re all toting around smart phones, you can use that to access concessions stands, merchandise, get highlights, stats, chat, etc.

From my standpoint, it’s a great thing. I can envision this blog community incorporating a lot of that technology and the social networking aspects pulling in people at the Stadium. I’ll bet in a few years the Yankees will have an in-house blog to foster their own network.

The Cisco people stressed that the Yankees are way ahead of the curve with this stuff. No stadium in North America will be more advanced in terms of delivering video to fans. It’ll start in the suites and spread to the seats in time. There is $17 million worth of wiring and other hardware in the Stadium.

The other interesting feature they showed us was telepresence, a highly advanced video conference system. Not to do a commercial for Cisco here, but it was like you’re actually in the room with people across the country. The Yankees will use this to communicate between the Bronx and Tampa. They also plan to install it in Bronx libraries, schools and hospitals so players and team officials can talk directly to kids.

New York Yankees and Cisco to Deliver Cutting-Edge Technology in New Yankee Stadium

Cisco Brings High-Definition Video and Advanced Communications Technology to the New Yankee Stadium, Creating the Ultimate Fan Experience
November 11, 2008: 08:00 AM EST

Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) today announced that the new Yankee Stadium, set to open April 2009, has been outfitted with state-of-the-art Cisco® technologies, giving New York Yankees fans the most wired, connected and video-enabled stadium in all of baseball. A new Cisco technology called Cisco StadiumVision(TM) will be central to the fan experience at the ballpark, providing fans with the most technologically advanced game-day experience in baseball, while maximizing the great historical tradition of the Yankees organization.

Building on its legacy of innovation, the New York Yankees will integrate video, voice, data and wireless services into one seamless next-generation network that transcends sports operations, connecting the team to its fans in entirely new ways. Fans will be able to view sports news and scores, weather and traffic while never missing a moment of game action on the field.

"We chose Cisco as the network provider for the new Yankee Stadium because they understand our business needs, our future goals and our vision for creating a unique experience that caters to our fans," said Yankees Chief Operating Officer Lonn A. Trost. "Cisco will help us capitalize on industry trends and transitions, such as the current migration from standard-definition to high-definition video in venues and at home, to give our fans the most state-of-the-art game-day experience in all of baseball for years to come."

Immersive High-Definition Experience for All Fans

Cisco will work with the New York Yankees to enhance the way fans enjoy Yankees games and other events by making the experience more interactive, personalized and immersive.

StadiumVision will allow the Yankees to cost-effectively deliver live game video and customized content to each video monitor, addressing the unique needs of each stadium location at each game or event. All monitors will be capable of delivering content in HD video.

Some of the key new amenities that Cisco and the Yankees are bringing to Yankees fans in the new stadium include:

-- Yankees Fan Amenities: For all Yankees fans who don't want to miss a
moment of on-field action, Cisco will provide the live game broadcast on HD
video monitors displayed throughout the stadium, including concession
areas, the Great Hall, the Yankees Museum and other in-stadium restaurant
and bar locations. Along with the live game broadcast, monitors will be
capable of simultaneously providing up-to-date sports scores, Yankees
trivia, news and weather from a single viewing screen. At the conclusions
of games, these monitors will allow the Yankees the ability to direct
patrons to the nearest exits and provide up-to-the-moment traffic
information. In the event of an emergency, all stadium monitors can be
immediately and uniformly mobilized to display evacuation instructions. On
non-game days, these same monitors can be used to display customized
content and information for special events such as conferences, weddings
and other group activities.
-- Premium Luxury Fan: Premium luxury suites will be outfitted with touch-
screen Internet Protocol (IP) phones that will allow fans to order
concessions and Yankees merchandise for delivery to the suite.
-- Fans of the Future: Cisco and the New York Yankees have also kept an
eye toward the future to ensure that the stadium remains state-of-the-art
for years to come. For example, the new stadium is equipped to support
future fan use of mobile devices for ordering concessions from their seat,
viewing instant replays or chatting in real time with friends inside and
outside the stadium. In addition, the stadium has the capability to allow
fans to communicate with players before or after the game using interactive
video-based technology.

"This stadium will come to define the American sporting experience, and we are thrilled the new stadium for the New York Yankees will implement technologies from Cisco to bring fans closer to the action and help the team transform the way it operates the venue," said John T. Chambers, Cisco chairman and chief executive officer. "This is an opportunity for Cisco to demonstrate the power of the network while establishing a lasting legacy at baseball's new grand cathedral."
TMS @ 11/11/2008 5:56 PM
that's pretty awesome.
4949 @ 11/11/2008 8:46 PM
That's means there's gonna be an awful lot of emissions flying around in that stadium. But it is pretty amazing what you can do nowadays!

How bout instant replay on your cell? Just dial and get for a small fee. Hey TMS, I think I just figured out a venture for you.

TMS @ 11/11/2008 9:01 PM
if ur talking about Bukkake on Demand i'm way ahead of u bro.
4949 @ 11/11/2008 9:25 PM
Oh no, I was talking about 'emissions like from a cell phone'. A lot of people worry about those things flying around. I don't think it's enough to affect attendance, but it's something to think about when I go to the new stadium. I'm just cautious like that.

Yankees Acquire Nick Swisher for Jeff Marquez
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story...

The New York Yankees have acquired center fielder-first baseman Nick Swisher in a trade with the Chicago White Sox, baseball sources tell ESPN.com.

Minor league pitcher Jeff Marquez is headed to Chicago in the deal, the source said. It's uncertain if any other players are involved.

Swisher, 27, hit .219 with 24 home runs in 153 games with Chicago this season.

I think this is a great acquistion. Swisher can play 1B/OF/CF and he's a solid hitter, sounds like he'll be our everyday 1B though. He never hits for average but is a VERY good OBP guy has a career OPS of .805

His best year came in '06 when he hit 35HR/95RBI/.254/.372/.865ops with Oakland. His contract is very managable too, will make 3.6million next year.

Great great move, I think. Great job Cashman.
Bonn1997 @ 11/13/2008 4:29 PM
Well this certainly isn't going to make a big impact (at least not a positive one!) on our AL-7th best offense. Maybe he's just going to be the backup Center fielder/1st baseman. I wouldn't use the word "great" 3 times here. How low are your expectations?

What do you dislike about Swisher? He gets on base, he hits 25-30hr, he scores runs and he's a pretty decent fielder. What is there to not like?

This release from the Yankees

YANKEES ACQUIRE 1B/OF NICK SWISHER AND RHP KANEKOA TEXEIRA FROM THE WHITE SOX
IN EXCHANGE FOR INF WILSON BETEMIT AND TWO MINOR LEAGUE PITCHERS

The New York Yankees announced today that they have acquired switch-hitting first baseman/outfielder Nick Swisher and right-handed pitcher Kanekoa Texeira from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for infielder Wilson Betemit and right-handed pitchers Jeff Marquez and Jhonny Nunez.

Swisher, 27, batted .219 (109-for-497) with 86 runs, 21 doubles, 24 home runs and 69 RBI in 153 games with the White Sox in 2008, leading all American League switch-hitters in home runs and ranking second in RBI. He made 69 starts in center field, 47 starts at first base, 16 starts in left field and 11 starts in right field, combining for a .990 fielding percentage (7E, 675TC), including a .996 mark at first base (2E, 481TC).

The Oakland Athletics’ first pick (16th overall) in the 2002 First-Year Player Draft, Swisher has appeared in 611 career games, batting .244 with 117 doubles, 104 home runs and 324 RBI. Since 2005, his 334 walks are tied for third-most in the American League while his 102 homers are the fourth-most among Major League switch-hitters. He has also recorded at least 20 doubles and 20 homers in each of the last four seasons. Swisher was acquired by Chicago on January 3, 2008, in exchange for left-handed pitcher Gio Gonzalez, right-handed pitcher Fautino De Los Santos and outfielder Ryan Sweeney.

“We’re excited with the addition of Nick Swisher,” said Yankees Manager Joe Girardi. “We feel he has a ton of upside. He’s a patient switch-hitter, adds versatility at a number of defensive positions, including first base and the outfield, and will be a positive presence inside the clubhouse.”

Texeira, 22, was 6-3 with 21 saves and a 1.33 ERA in 51 combined relief appearances with Single-A Winston-Salem and Double-A Birmingham, ranking second among White Sox minor leaguers in saves. He was selected as a Carolina League mid- and postseason All-Star, posting a 3-1 record and a 0.93 ERA with Winston-Salem, while recording 20 saves in 23 opportunities. Over his final 22 appearances with the Single-A club (23.1IP), he did not allow an earned run and held opponents to a .176 batting average (15-for-85).

A native of Maui, Hawai’i, he was originally selected by the White Sox in the 22nd round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft and entered 2008 with the organization’s best slider, according to Baseball America. In 113 career minor league appearances, he has a 12-7 record with 40 saves and a 2.24 ERA, striking out 149 batters in 144.1IP.

Betemit hit .265 (50-for-189) with 13 doubles, 6 home runs and 25 RBI in 87 games with the Yankees in 2008, making starts at all four infield positions. He was acquired by the Yankees from the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 31, 2007, in exchange for right-handed pitcher Scott Proctor.

Marquez was 8-8 with a 4.47 ERA in 19 combined games (18 starts) with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the GCL Yankees and Double-A Trenton in 2008, missing nearly two months (June 19 – August 12) with a right shoulder strain. Selected by the Yankees in Compensation Round A (41st overall) of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft, Marquez led Yankees farmhands in wins (15) and innings pitched (155.1) in 2007 while with Trenton, and owns a career record of 43-40 with a 3.60 ERA.

Nunez, acquired at the 2008 trading deadline from the Washington Nationals in exchange for infielder Alberto Gonzalez, owns a 21-18 record with a 3.26 ERA in 93 career minor league games (64 starts). He appeared in eight games with Double-A Trenton following the acquisition, going 1-0 with a 1.86 ERA and striking out 26 batters in 19.1IP.

Can't complain about this one. Swisher is an improvement over Betemit and the prospects are insignificant. Just gotta wonder what was up with Swisher in CHA.
