The Yankees organization is stocked with so many good young power arms from the AA level on up. As long as Mo is healthy and anchoring the pen, there's no reason why the Yankees shouldn't have a pretty good bullpen this year. They have a nice balance of veterans and youth and there's always the specter of Joba, especially come playoff time.

mark melancon is on his way. btw, did i tell you guys that the yanks have the best bullpen in baseball?

Middle Relievers are sketchy DJ - usually when one has a good year, the next year he struggles. I will temper my excitement on the pen until we're in June.

Although, sometimes you find that special guy who is has such dirty stuff and is such a good reliever that it probably wouldn't happen (cough joba cough.)

Melancon is supposed to have Joba's makeup & the mentality to be a closer... dunno if he's got the same stuff but from what i hear his fastball gets up there in the same 98 mpg range... having Joba's location & control & that filthy slider is another story... we'll see what the kid's got... we also have Phil Coke, Jose Veras, a lefty & righty & both hard throwers & Edwar Ramirez in our middle relief corps & they're all solid w/very good stuff w/strikeout pitches... depending on the season that K-Rod has across town i'd say the NY teams are in a battle for #1 bullpen, but i'd say the Yankees have more depth overall than any other team in baseball.
djsunyc @ 2/23/2009 2:16 PM
i'm not sure y'all are really understanding what i'm saying.

bruney + marte + coke + veras + melancon + aceves + ???? all leading into mariano in the 9th = best bullpen in baseball...

yeah, middle relievers are sketchy...but we will have the least sketchiest.

R.Ramirez, Saito, Delcarmen, Masterson, Lopez, Okajima, Papelbon is better....

Jays, Oakland, and Tampa could have a better bullpen again as well.

absolute madness. it makes it all easier to comprehend when you realize the simple fact that i am always right.

the latest has his infamous cousin now being banned from being around the team after he was seen driving ARod from the last Spring training game... i dunno what the hell it's gonna take for ARod to finally get it into his thick skull that he can't afford to make any more of these public gaffes w/the media... how do u allow the same cousin to drive u from a Spring training game that u confessed was the guy who bought & injected roids into your system a few years back? how can such a talented guy be so stupid?
BigSm00th @ 2/28/2009 1:20 AM
arod is brain dead.
TMS @ 2/28/2009 1:46 AM
i been defending the guy ever since he came here but now i'm just getting sick of this guy's constant PR fiascos... he's got the same amount of public relations skills as Marbury does w/o the crack induced insanity, it's unbelievable... regularly puts his foot in his mouth & doesn't even realize why the stuff he does can be taken the wrong way by the press... being seen out in public w/a blonde stripper on the road going into a hotel together... being associated w/freakin' Madonna of all people... bringing up personal stats when people ask him if the team losing in the playoffs might be considered a failure... i dunno if ARod will ever get it... he's just wired this way, completely self absorbed & in his own world... i'm not gonna defend this guy anymore... if he doesn't put up this year in the clutch & have a great postseason i'm officially done w/this guy.

sorry for the rant, it's just frustrating when u invest so much faith in someone & they keep letting u down.
GKFv2 @ 2/28/2009 2:20 AM
Well I haven't had much faith in A-Rod for years so none of this is surprising to me. He's always been a choke artist douche to me.

Great, ARod's going to have to have surgery on his hip.

They say that surgery would put him out for 10 weeks. Obviously it's not the best news but they can hold the fort until he comes back. It does put more pressure on Posada and Matsui to be ready by opening day though.

Thank God our pitching should be really good and can carry us for stretches.
Allanfan20 @ 3/5/2009 11:43 AM
What are the comments that he said about Jose Reyes. I kept hearing Michael Kay ranting yesterday that he said something pretty F'ed up, even though he didn't mean to make it sound that way. Did he say "I want Jose Reyes playing shortstop" or something like that?
JohnWallace44 @ 3/5/2009 12:05 PM
He was praising Jose and said, "I wish he was leading off for our team."

Not a huge deal. Just the normal ARod stuff there.

TMS @ 3/5/2009 3:21 PM
dammit, just heard the news about ARod's surgery... just what we need to start off the year.

as for his comments, typical much ado about nothing... anything for the media to sell some stupid news story.
Allanfan20 @ 3/5/2009 4:22 PM
Just heard he's going to go through rehab and rest instead of surgery. I hope this is the right move. It seems real short sighted.
SupremeCommander @ 3/5/2009 4:25 PM
call me crazy, but I think the timing is perfect. There would have been a *huge* media circus, especially at the beginning of the season, if ARod wasn't out because of surgery. By the time ARod gets right, some of this mess will have blown over

100% agreed.

Yankee Alex Rodriguez to undergo arthroscopic surgery on injured hip Monday morning

March 8
New York Daily News

"Alex Rodriguez will undergo arthroscopic surgery on Monday morning to repair the torn labrum in his right hip.

The announcement was made Sunday morning during a conference call with Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, team physician Dr. Chris Ahmad and hip specialist Dr. Marc Philippon, who will perform the procedure in Vail, Colo., on Monday morning.

Dr. Philippon estimated that A-Rod would be ready to play in 6-9 weeks, meaning the third baseman will miss the first 2-5 weeks of the season.

Rodriguez will remain in Colorado "for the foreseeable future," according to Cashman, as A-Rod will rehab under Dr. Philippon's watch.

Dr. Phillipon said there was an 85-90 percent chance that Rodriguez would be able to play the rest of the season without further problems.

Rodriguez will require additional surgery after the season to repair the rest of the problem."

I like this better than rehab. Why waste time? Just fix that shizat.

Yeah but it sounds like they're only partly fixing it since he'll need further surgery in the off-season

yeah, that's what has me worried... this is gonna be a lingering problem for ARod all year long it seems... just what we need right now after all that steroid scandal crap.
