1. i became a yankee fan in 1978 (when i was 4)
2. my dad was a huge reggie jackson fan. i remember going to the game in a subway train full of graffiti. i ate a reggie bar at the stadium back then too.
3. my first REAL baseball memory was in 1981 when greg nettles broke his thumb diving in game 2 of the world series which knocked him out the rest of the way and allowed the dodgers to win the next 4 games.
4. don mattingly
5. tommy john/mariano rivera
6. tie: 94 & 96 yanks
DJ, don't even remind me of 1994. That was ours and Donnie's world series to win.
Allanfan20:
1) 1993
2) My dad took me to both Yankees and Mets games, but he personally never chose between the two. So I had an eye on both teams, until Pat Kelly became my favorite player of both the teams. I don't know why, he just was. I became a Yankee fan then.
3) The first game my dad took me to, was actually a Mets game against the Dodgers. The Mets lost. My first few Yankee games were Yanks losses too, until 1993, when the Yanks beat the Orioles 1-0 off a Don Mattingly home run.
4) I have a few. Rivera, El Duque, Jeter, Bernie, O'Neal, Pettitte, Cone and also currently, Cano, Wang and Cabrera. I love them all really.
5) El Duque, Rivera, Pettitte, Cone.
6) '96, '99.

2. Everybody except my annoying aunt loves the yanks in my family. You know she's a met fan right?
3. I was like 4 years old and we were in the bleachers watching the yanks play toronto. It was a night game and I was bored cuz I was 4, lol. The game all of a sudden got gangsta cuz everyone started shouting "BLUE JAYS SUCK!" I mean dudes were jumping up and down on the bleachers and going nuts. So I got into it too yelling the same thing! I was having the time of my life untill my pops noticed me like 10 minutes later. I'll never forget that.
4. Donnie baseball. Met him and his son on the 4 train once. No lie. Add paul o'neal, Bernie, brosius, and Jimmy Leritz too.
5. David cone and Jimmy key.
6. I loved all the torre teams that got the ring.
yankee 7th inning stretch:

6. which yankee team is your favorite? '96 Yanks... i was too young to truly appreciate the '77-'80 teams, & after waiting so many years for another WS win, it was so damn sweet to see Charlie Hayes squeeze that final out at the Stadium!
Edwar Ramirez is no joke... that kid's got 1 nasty changeup... i love the different look he gives us out of the pen to complement flame throwers like Joba, Farns, Bruney & Mo.
another good win tonight... 5 games out in the East & leading the WC by 4... freakin' Devil Rays had it wrapped up tonight too, but blew the lead late.

He was throwing hard as heck and keeping the ball down. He has really improved since they sent him to the pen. He had command problems early in the year.
i would just like to say that tampa bay is the worst team in major league baseball history.

Boston coming back to win those games don't bother me. They feasted on Tampa's lame relief pitching.
What I took out of that Boston-Tampa series is that Boston's starting pitching stinks right now and there's no chance the Yankees bullpen gives up those kinds of leads.
Boston is still stumbling to the finish, no matter what they did in coming back against a pathetic Tampa bullpen. I really want to embarrass them in Boston this weekend like the Yankees did last year. Step on their necks and leave them with serious doubts.
I loved what Peter Abraham wrote in his blog last night. Nobody on the Yankees seemed to care about what the Boston score was or that they had come back. They're just focused on beating whoever they play and taking care of their own business.
Let Boston worry about them, and you know damn well that they are.

that ball Ortiz hit was imminently catchable... we should be within 4 games right now.

holy crap, i just saw that homer replay by ortiz, that was a total misplay by the right fielder. wow.
Man I couldn't believe Joe didn't put Rivera in.
rivera pitched last night and they wanted him for boston.
but britton? yikes.
Farnsworth, Ramirez and Joba were all unavailable. Mo was limited for an inning in a save situation.
I don't mind seeing Britton in that situation. Tough spot though with Rios and Thomas the first 2 batters but they didn't have many other options.
I don't mind losing the game. They weren't going to go undefeated during a 9 game road trip. I just think Kennedy deserved better. He pitched a great game and deserved a win. Although the same can be said for Burnett. I blame ARod and Matsui for not coming through there in the top of the 9th. But, it's not a big deal.
It usually takes at most 2 innings to score on a team's bullpen. I would have given Rivera one inning and taken my chances on scoring in the next inning. (I posted that in The Zone Forums before the inning began.) Who knows? We may not even need Rivera in the next game anyway but we did need him in this one. And Joba will be available if it's a close game. No, it's not the end of the world, but I think manager's obsess over the term "save situation." Torre often doesn't bring Rivera in in tie games in the 9th but he does bring in Rivera for a 9th inning save when we have a 3-run lead. How does that make sense? An average MLB pitcher can get 3 outs before giving up 3 runs at least 95% of the time.
Normally I think Torre is a moron whenn it comes to managing a bullpen but I don't mind how he managed it the last 2 games. You have to do everything you can to finish games where you have a 3 run lead going into the final 6 outs and you have everyone available.
Tonight they were shorthanded and weren't hitting. I'd much rather Torre use what he has available than force extra work on his most important bullpen guys.
why on God's green earth would u put Chris freakin' Britton in on a tie game in the bottom of the 9th??? OMG, Torre blows yet another game this year w/his incomprehensible use of the bullpen... what the hell!

come on now... Britton? the guy hasn't pitched for us all year & all of a sudden he's in there w/the game on the line? please don't tell me this loss doesn't matter... every win & loss is huge for us... it could mean the difference between a 1st round home series or not... this is about the 4th time this year that Torre's made some nonsensical bullpen decision to cost us a game... freakin A!
