Joba as a starter is anything but impressive... IMO he loses that dominance when he's pitching as a starter... the fastball tops out at 93-94 & the slider doesn't have nearly the break it does when he's letting loose as a setup guy.
still, can't pin the loss on him today, he made the pitches when he needed to... top of the 9th, bases loaded no outs & we get no runs... after that i had a sneaky suspicion we were gonna lose this game & after the Sux tied it up i knew it was just a matter of time until that walk off came... i really hate playing at Fenway!

Wang put on the DL... Robertson being called up... looks like Cody Ransom's gonna be on the shelf for a while too w/a bad quad... Pena will get some AB's.
Cody Ransom needs to get DFA'd now that he's injured. We need to call up Berroa to take his place. Pena won't cut it.

I agree 100% about Joba. He's got a WHIP of 1.81, which shows that he's been very hittable. Last year as a starter it was only 1.30, though.

I agree fully, I've been saying this since they started moving him into the rotation. Not a good idea

He can be dominant as a closer that, as Mos successor.
Anyone have a word on Bruney? That would be death to the Yanks if he goes down.

they probably will bring up Berroa sooner or later... they need another positional player on the bench regardless.
Mariano's been mediocre at best against Boston

speak of the Devil... Berroa's starting at 3B today.
so far AJB looks dominant & Yankees scoring early on Beckett... 2-0 in the 3rd.
ROBBIE CANO, DON'TCHA KNOW! 2 run dinger, 4-0 Yanks!

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/5400...Definitely not Bonn. He's played 90 games against Boston. 44 saves, 12 blown saves, 95 strike outs, 100 innings. He does have 29 walks. 3.05 ERA. Dominant? Definitely not. Mediocre? Not even close. At worst, he's been very good, with maybe more inconsistency than his career vs other teams. It's just highlited b/c it happens to be against the Red Sox, that he'll get some blown saves. But he's had outstanding games against them too.
It's all part of the rivalry. We kill them, they kill us. I'd still take him, against even the Red Sox, ahead of any other closer.

Mariano's had his problems at Fenway no doubt... but u gotta agree w/A-fan, there isn't another closer i'd rather have on the mound than Mo against the Red Sox much less any team.
Looks like Bruney is going on the DL and Melancon is coming. Bruney is a key to our pen. Let's hope he will not be out too long. This sucks.
CANO FOR PRESIDENT! 6-0 Yanks

3+ ERA and save percentage below 80 is middle of the pack for a closer. Definitely not "very good." I definitely am not confident when goes to the mound against them.

Offense sucks one day, pitching sucks the next. So damn frustrating.
what i tell u guys last year... we shoulda traded for Jason Bay, NOT Xavier Nady... the guy is hugely clutch for the Red Sux ever since he got there... i don't wanna hear anymore how he wouldn't be able to handle a high pressure situation, he's already proven he can.
Damon ties it up 8-8... offensive barrage on display here.

Pirates wanted much more for Bay and got it.
ROBBIE CANO DON'TCHA KNOW coming through once again... 2nd HR of the day.
12-11 Red Sox in the 8th... this is one crazy azz game!
