It's a pattern for the whole season (not one specific game) that if it's a save situation, Mariano must be used. Other teams use their closers for about 80% of the team saves. Ours is basically 100%. It's like Joe's top priority is padding Mariano's save stats.

I agree with you, a lot of times Torre brings in Mo just because it's a chance to get a save. I hate that. I think it's lame to play for statistics like that. As if Mo having a couple fewer saves would make anybody think less of him.

In fact he still has fewer saves this year than many closers, but I feel very confident in him.

I feel confident with Clemens being the third starter. He's pitched better than his stats suggest IMO (although his stats are not bad)

As Rivera prepared to protect a two-run lead in the bottom of the eighth, he was struck in the back of the elbow by a ball thrown wildly by Eric Gagne.
"It came in hot," said Yankees reliever Ron Villone, who witnessed the scary moment. "He couldn't feel his arm; it was numb. We were in the bullpen saying, 'Oh no.'

My coworker just told me about that too. What was the Yankees' reaction after the game? I'm sure Torre probably glossed over it like it wasn't on purpose, but that sounds too eerily convenient for it to be a freak accident, don't you think?

my bad, it was a piece of paper he signed... still hilarious... i love when fans expect players to be courteous to them when they're probably sitting in the stands cursing at him & his teammates the moment prior... Shelley obviously meant it as a goof... immature prank but man, get a sense of humor.
