It's a pattern for the whole season (not one specific game) that if it's a save situation, Mariano must be used. Other teams use their closers for about 80% of the team saves. Ours is basically 100%. It's like Joe's top priority is padding Mariano's save stats.

I agree with you, a lot of times Torre brings in Mo just because it's a chance to get a save. I hate that. I think it's lame to play for statistics like that. As if Mo having a couple fewer saves would make anybody think less of him.

In fact he still has fewer saves this year than many closers, but I feel very confident in him.
there are now mariano rules.
torre said he will not pitch mariano on the road unless they are winning.
HUGE comeback victory tonight..............take their hearts.
Pettitte and Wang BOTH looked bad against the Red Sox
I feel confident with Clemens being the third starter. He's pitched better than his stats suggest IMO (although his stats are not bad)
i'll take 2 out of 3 from boston. we lost the division on saturday but what can you do. now we have to keep winning to keep off detroit (who go to cleveland for 3).
i think i crapped my pants watching that 9th inning today... what a nailbiter. *whew* i need a cigarette now.
Griffin Whitman, a 10-year-old Red Sox [team stats] fan from Swampscott, was excited to attend his first Yankees vs. Red Sox game Friday night. The young autograph -collector was even more thrilled to score Yankees outfielder Shelley Duncan’s signature before the game. That is, until Griffin read the message from the 27-year-old rookie: “Red Sox s*ck! Shelley Duncan.”
“It was cool to get his autograph,” Griffin said. “It didn’t make me feel happy when he wrote that.”
Griffin’s mother, Karen, blasted the Yankees slugger’s bad manners.
“This is someone who wears the Yankee uniform and is on the payroll and should be setting an example for 10-year-olds,” she said.
Duncan, son of St. Louis Cardinals pitching coach Dave Duncan, has become a fan favorite in the Bronx for hitting mammoth home runs since he was called up from the minors in July.
Yesterday afternoon, a Yankee spokesman declined to comment until he got a chance to speak to Duncan.
September 17, 2007 -- BOSTON - Mariano Rivera pitched the ninth inning of last night's game moments after his right arm went numb when hit by an errant toss that came from the Red Sox bullpen that adjoins the Yankees' pen beyond Fenway Park's right-field fence.
As Rivera prepared to protect a two-run lead in the bottom of the eighth, he was struck in the back of the elbow by a ball thrown wildly by Eric Gagne.
"It came in hot," said Yankees reliever Ron Villone, who witnessed the scary moment. "He couldn't feel his arm; it was numb. We were in the bullpen saying, 'Oh no.'

My coworker just told me about that too. What was the Yankees' reaction after the game? I'm sure Torre probably glossed over it like it wasn't on purpose, but that sounds too eerily convenient for it to be a freak accident, don't you think?

my bad, it was a piece of paper he signed... still hilarious... i love when fans expect players to be courteous to them when they're probably sitting in the stands cursing at him & his teammates the moment prior... Shelley obviously meant it as a goof... immature prank but man, get a sense of humor.
jeez, is it a requirement for all red sox fans to look inbred?

detroit lost, boston lost and yankees won....
We should just bring Hughes in in the 2nd inning for each start!
