let's win the division before we start thinking about the ALCS
VDesai @ 4/30/2009 11:44 PM
Forget about the Red Sox right now. Let these guys come into their own. I smell a really long winning streak on the horizon as the weather gets warmer. Yankees are underachieving right now but they definitely have a squad to get excited about. Getting back the real Cano+ an improved Melky and the Swisher acquisition paying off to the upside + studs like Teixiera and Arod. This could be one of our best lineups ever.
TMS @ 4/30/2009 11:59 PM
on paper it's definitely 1 of the best teams i've seen & they should definitely win this division if people play up to their abilities this year... good to see the guys starting to hit the ball... sorry, but telling me to forget about the Red Sux is an exercise in futility... that's like asking a Red Sux fan to forget about the Yankees... ain't gonna happen.
VDesai @ 5/1/2009 12:24 AM
They have to play a lot of games against teams other than the Red Sox and I wouldn't discount some of these young players coming through in those games. Just gotta build the confidence. I don't think the Yankees fear the Red Sox, but they play too tight in these big games. New blood might be just what the doctor ordered.
TMS @ 5/1/2009 12:35 AM
that's just it, they play tight & the Red Sux kids play loosey goosey & it shows bigtime... i just wanna see these kids have fun out there & relax & let their talent take over, cuz i know the Red Sux kids aren't that much better than ours... it's just that they're able to relax in big moments, whereas our guys press so much... the same happens w/our vets too & not just against the Red Sux, but also against the Muts as well... new blood or not, most of these kids have played in some big games before in a Pennant race & haven't come through in big moments... hopefully that changes this season.

We haven't seen Coke or Melancon get that opportunity yet. Phil Hughes' best performance came in the playoffs.

God, i love the MLB network... such a refreshing change to watch a sports highlight show w/unbiased commentary & intelligent analysis w/o all the gimmicks & cute catch phrases.

ESPN mine as well change their call letters to NESN w/the way the sycophants crew of Ravech, Berthiaume, Gammons, Phillips, Kruk & Olney kiss butt to Red Sawx Nation on every telecast & bash the Yankees at every opportunity.

it's been so long since we've had so many young farm players on the roster this early in the year. i'm psyched.

good thing about MLB is that hey can cut into games live w/o any hassles.

Can anyone post this ESPN Insider article: "Insider Intel: For Sabathia, what if this is as good as it gets?" Thanks!

They gotta get rid of Veras. Pena looks like a valuable backup infielder for this year.
VDesai @ 5/1/2009 10:36 PM
Amazing win for the Yanks! Huge comeback in the 8th and 9th!
djsunyc @ 5/1/2009 10:36 PM
THIS TEAM HAS FIGHT AND HEART!!!!!!!!!!!
djsunyc @ 5/1/2009 10:39 PM
melancon put in a tough spot, ain't mad at him.

veras needs to go.

major props to cano + melky for their rebounds this year.

pena has EARNED his spot.

this team is starting to believe it can win every game. i love what i'm seeing.
VDesai @ 5/1/2009 10:46 PM
Robbie Cano is locked in right now. He was really great in the field today in addition to being great at the plate. He is one of the most fun hitters to watch in the MLB when he streaks like this. He just takes the ball to all fields and just puts up hits with such ease. This lineup is a machine. Hopefully Swish isn't hurt, but even the guys at the bottom of the order really came through.

Pettitte looked like shit tonight though. I dunno how he managed to put up 5 0's tonight. He was a ticking time bomb.

Melancon definitely had a tough spot. I thought he made an outstanding effort to try and tag Matthews at the plate. He'll get more opportunities to come up big.

Veras is just awful. They'd be better served with Robertson instead of Veras.
djsunyc @ 5/1/2009 10:52 PM
this isn't a cano streak - he's a different hitter. taking more pitches...he looks great at the plate.

i can't say enough about melky and pena. pena - WOW.
VDesai @ 5/1/2009 10:53 PM
Cano should win a batting title or two in his career. He's back to being that kind of hitter.
GKFv2 @ 5/1/2009 11:00 PM
Yankees pen blows game and their bats save the game. I think this is something we'll be seeing a little too often. The pen has a lot of question marks in there or just plain duds.

Anyway, exciting comeback victory. I was really happy with that comeback. They toughed it out and cut down the lead going into the 9th. Thanks to Fuentes' amazing amount of suck and their spirit, they won the game.

BTW I heard that Swisher got injured but the X-rays were negative. Hopefully he comes back OK. Losing him would suck immensely.
djsunyc @ 5/1/2009 11:06 PM
juan miranda may be on the way tomorrow to replace swish if he's hurt.
GKFv2 @ 5/1/2009 11:12 PM
Juan Miranda should replace Veras. We don't need 13 pitchers on the roster and we have no power off the bench. Historically we've always had a power guy off the bench.
