swish out of the lineup hurts.

jeter's error changed the complexion of the game.

and that strike call on jeter making it 2-1 instead of 3-0 was terrible.

can't win them all...but cc has to get out of that inning. just like last night - 1 more out to get out of it unscathed and neither pettite or cc could do it.

hopefully hughes pitches a good game tomorrow.

wasn't thrilled with girardi pinch hitting posada for pena. veras looks like toast. robertson hasn't been used in like forever. tough to keep sharp like that.
TMS @ 5/2/2009 4:16 PM
bad bullpen work again... CC ran outta gas in the 6th... another no name pitcher shuts down our lineup... dunno if that's an aberration when it's been happening w/regularity this year.

Jeter's error & Damon's misplay of the flyball in LF cost us runs, but we couldn't hit the Angels' pitching all day... this team came out flat except for the kids, Gardner, Pena & Melky, who made some sparkling plays in the OF today.
VDesai @ 5/2/2009 4:25 PM
I dunno about the Yankees being shutdown by a lot of no-name pitchers. Other than Justin Masterson and this guy it hasn't really happened very often. In terms of runs scored and OPS they are like 3rd in the majors
VDesai @ 5/2/2009 4:27 PM
Yankees extending this game a bit with 2 outs in the 9th. I've never seen so many misplays in the OF to this point of the year as I have in the first few weeks of this season.

just got back from the stadium guys. GREAT win. crowd was amped. jorge is just locked in. jim beam lounge serves after the 7th inning

oh man, Beam always does a send closk on me.

Did I use it right?

Martin, the beauty of send closk is that it can be used however you damn well please.
VDesai @ 5/2/2009 4:30 PM
Wow, the game was pretty much a long shot, but that was a really shitty at bat by Damon to end the game.
VDesai @ 5/2/2009 4:38 PM
Wang pitched well in the game ARod played today. ARod was like 0-6 w/ 2K's but he played in the field and came out of it alright. Looks like we'll have him in about a week or two.

4/6 BAL Guthrie - 6 IP 3 ER
4/8 BAL Uehara - 5 IP 1 ER
4/26 BOS Masterson - 5.1 IP 1 ER

& last year i remember guys like Brian Bannister, Brian Burres, Garret Olson & a few others shutting them down too.
VDesai @ 5/2/2009 5:07 PM
Guthrie has been a very good pitcher the last couple years. About a 3.70 ERA and a 1.20 whip the last 2 seasons.
Pharzeone @ 5/2/2009 5:37 PM
How can you anyone give CC thata boys? He is being paid as your #1 guy and wants to walk of the of the #1 guy but can't back it up. This guy was pitching complete games last year in the NL and now he is "gassed" by the 6th inning? Now we have to put the blame on the Yankee hitters. How many runs do they have to score? It seems that CC has a real problem with AL batters and it was the same last year too.
TMS @ 5/2/2009 5:41 PM
i ain't giving him no atta boys, just saying he's showing some signs of coming around... his velocity is up at least 5 mph from where it was at the beginning of the season & his breaking stuff is a lot sharper... obviously he's still not living up to the contract but it's still early... can't give up on the guy yet just like u can't give up on Teix even tho he's been terrible so far.
GKFv2 @ 5/2/2009 6:52 PM
Veras still sucks.

strong 6+ innings by CC but he ran outta gas at the end & gave up some big hits to the Angels... at least his velocity is getting up again in the 98 mph range late in the game, which is a good sign... the slider had some nasty break to it today too.

hopefully they have another comeback in them... 5-1 in the 7th, not insurmountable.
I only listened on the radio but it sounded like he threw very well.
TMS @ 5/2/2009 7:24 PM
he was throwing really well til the 6th, & then a couple fielding gaffes led to men on base & he gave up a big hit to allow them to score... bottomline, he didn't make the big pitches when he had to in that 1 inning, but the rest of the game he looked very good... got helped out by some sparkling defensive plays by Gardner, Melky & Pena too, but Jeter & Damon's bad plays led to him imploding a little in the 6th... still, the score was 4-1 when he got pulled & Alby let in another 1 of his runners & Veras also failed to do his job... this bullpen is still very questionable.
Allanfan20 @ 5/3/2009 12:07 PM
So is Damons defense. It's been awful.
Bonn1997 @ 5/3/2009 12:29 PM
At least his offense has been solid. This team has three players (Damon, Matsui, and Posada) who should each be full time DHs, unfortunately.
VDesai @ 5/3/2009 12:57 PM
Delayed today. Looks like Swish is out of the lineup again.
TMS @ 5/3/2009 7:39 PM
i hate rain outs... Boston coming into town for a 2 game set tomorrow night... hope we don't get washed outta that one as well... would be nice to sweep the next 2 games & send a message to BOS that they better not think they're our daddies now... Hughes has a chance to really send a message to the Yankees' brass & the fans that he's here to stay also w/a nice showing tomorrow night vs. a guy who's always been tough on the Yankees, Jon Lester.

got tix for monday and tuesday. hopefully they play so i can see hughes + joba...
djsunyc @ 5/3/2009 7:56 PM
man...i'm starting to get ticked about all this arod coverage. and it seems like MLB network has a ton of SI reporters on...so it doesn't look like they are presenting this in an unbiased way either...

arod sells - i just hope he comes back and DESTROYS all opposing pitchers...
TMS @ 5/3/2009 8:03 PM
what kills me is the fact that it doesn't make a difference if the charges are true or not, she's gonna make a killing w/this book & a ton of these allegations are based on hearsay type stuff... i mean if you have a legit source that's concrete & have the evidence to back it up, fine... go right ahead & write an expose, that's a journalist's duty to do so... but if u wanna slander someone based on some quotes u got off some ex-teammates or whatever else & can't even name your damn sources, how does a book like this even warrant publication? because the stupid public eats this stuff up & this type of trash journalism will always sell is why... credibility be damned, she's gonna make a ton of money on this book & so will the publishers who printed this garbage.
