we mount late inning rallies - much different from last year.

now we need to go to toronto and take 2 of 3 there.

Damon has been great at the plate this year...can the Yanks pen protect a two run leadue for three innings? Joba really settled down after a terrible first inning...

Damon's on pace for 50 HR!

We got a lot of work to do just to get to the .550 winning % we had last year.

The guy's had to deal with a Chien-Ming Wang meltdown completely out of leftfield plus key injuries to A-Rod, Xavier Nady, Brian Bruney, Demaso Marte, Jorge Posada, and now Jose Molina plus the recent realization that Mariano might be becoming human. WTF do people want him do? Go out and wave the magic wand and make instant trades for a starting RFer, a frontline starter, two 8th inning bullpen guys, a replacement closer & a starting catcher all within the next week??????

of course Johan... we should've had 3 Allstars on the Johan bench ready to take over for 1 of our injured starters Johan, & our bullpen Johan should have a steady stream of every quality Johan arm in the majors ready to step in when other guys aren't getting the Johan job done... how can you not blame Cashman for this Johan? & Cashman's directly responsible for Johan Teixeria's slump to start the season & for Mariano Johan getting older & not having another Mariano clone ready Johan to take over so we can make Mariano the setup Johan guy... we all know how those alltime great Johan closers grow on trees... oh, & i wanted Johan.

LMAO!

Nice comeback win today. Poor 1st inning again for Joba but he & the rest of the guys kept us in the game after that. Huff says he wasn't trying to show Joba up today with the two big fist pumps. Yeah OK buddy. I believe that like I believe the moon is made of cheese. That's OK though - Huff won that battle but we won the war and that's what it's all about. Left for the in-laws after it was 3-1 Os, gonna go fire up the DVR real quick - Just curious - I gotta go check out Huff's next at-bat against Joba. Glad they won today. Just keep focus on winning series after series. Already got A-Rod back. More reinforcements to come soon enough...

i don't believe Huff either, but i can't blame him for doing that to Joba when Joba's done that to him after striking him out in the past... only thing that bothers me about guys who whine about Joba is how come we never hear anything about guys who are much more demonstrative on the mound like K-Rod, Valverde, Papelbon & guys like that? if Huff's got a problem with Joba, why doesn't he have the same beef with Papelbon? i'm pretty sure he's been struck out by him before & had to see him do his usual after the save celebrations on the mound... if he's got a personal beef w/Joba other than the fist pump display, that's 1 thing, but to single out 1 guy for doing it when there's a lotta other guys doing the same thing is just the typical Yankee hating type bias that i can't stand.

Garcia and Jones would both be very low cost moves that could have a good reward and are worth getting.

funny u'd bring that post up as if those were guys you came up with when u needed me & VDesai to make the suggestions in the first place before you even knew they were available... you're the same guy who praised the Red Sox for "making some really smart, inexpensive, high potential reward decisions" by adding guys like Brad Penny, Rocco Baldelli & John Smoltz over the offseason, yet they're the same team that lost out on Mark Teixieria, CC Sabathia & AJ Burnett... if the Yankees had missed out on the big 3 this offseason you'd be lambasting Cashman like there's no tomorrow for not being able to land the big names in free agency & having to settle for lesser names... you are a typical spoiled Yankee fan that expects his cake & wants to eat it too every season, & then complains about every decision that's made that doesn't work out exactly the way you hoped it would... all this criticism of the job Cashman's doing from you as if you're so much more informed on judging baseball talent than someone who's been doing it for the better part of his lifetime... you wanted Johan just like me & a ton of other Yankee fans, but because it doesn't happen & you act like Cashman stole your dog or something... my advice to u would be to stop & cut your losses... either that or become more informed before voicing your criticisms, because that will help your case when you try & defend them... & that wasn't meant as an insult to you, but i really do think you need to become more informed before tossing out your overly simplistic criticisms of the job that the most successful GM in baseball is doing for this franchise.
VDesai @ 5/10/2009 11:29 PM
If we can get Bruney back, I'd love for him and Coke to be the Nelson/Stanton duo. I think you gotta give these guys the job and let them work through it because they have the talent to do so. What will really help is our starters going 6-7 innings a game and we know that Sabathia, Burnett and Pettite are capable of doing this and Wang if healthy and confident certainly can do it as well.

Bottom line is the Yankees have a lot GREAT players that are not getting the job done the way they are capable of doing now- not good, but Great players. Once these guys figure things out it will make a major impact.

As far as Huff today that was bush league. Yeah Joba's histrionics are a bit much, but everyone reacts differently to success...some people generally get more pumped up than others. Huff's stuff was so obviously orchestrated to mock Joba....the fact that he stopped to do it twice was even more bush league.
TMS @ 5/10/2009 11:48 PM
Huff wants to make it a beef, then so be it... i agree, it was a cheaply orchestrated & premeditated showing up of another player which is worse than the emotional displays that Joba throws w/his fist pumps, but considering the fact that Huff's never had a problem w/Pedro Martinez or those other names i mentioned from what i know is what i find puzzling... maybe there's something else there, who knows? i'm sure it's not gonna stop Joba from doing it & it's not the last time Huff's gonna have his feathers ruffled over it either... will be interesting to see what happens the next game they play & the Yankees have a comfortable lead late in the game... if Huff wants to play like he's an old school style baller then he should be expecting one high & tight on him for what he pulled today.

Coke & Bruney as a modern day Stanton & Nelson i don't think is gonna happen... Bruney can't stay healthy long enough for that symbiosis to even develop it seems... Coke reminds me a lot of Paul Quantrill actually in his mannerisms & the way he goes after hitters, even tho Quantrill was a righty & threw more sinkers... dude is bigtime into MMA... i was almost hoping Coke would drill Huff late in the game & Huff would rush the mound... Huff looks like no pushover either so it would be an interesting fight, that's for sure.

I don't think you understand what a GM does. A GM needs to evaluate trade ideas, which may or may not be his own. I fail to see your point, if you even have one. If you want to accuse me of being outstanding at evaluating others' suggestions, I will plead guilty as charged.

I appreciate the advice about putting my head in the sand regarding the biggest mistake a Yankees GM has made in my lifetime. I'll give it at least one tenth of a second of consideration.

Bruney's been lights out lately when he can pitch. I agree he needs to prove he can stay healthy. I'm really high on Coke. He's done a decent job of brushing off some of hte homers he's given up. He has good stuff and should start asserting himself as the setup man.
djsunyc @ 5/11/2009 10:35 AM
Joba Chamberlain said he didn’t see Aubrey Huff celebrate his first-inning home run. But he didn’t have a problem with it.

“Good for him,” he said. “He’s paid to hit home runs.”

Here’s what Huff had to say:

“He’s done it a couple of times to me when he’s struck me out. For me, it’s just in good fun. I always told the guys that if I get him, I’m going to give him a nice fist pump. For me, it wasn’t really showing anybody up. I was just trying to have some fun with it. He does it all the time and I figured you know what, why not?”

Is he worried about retribution: “Why would he hit me? If he’s going to do that all the time, he’s got to understand that guys are going to be gunning for him you would think. If you want to do that stuff, you got to expect the hitters to get you, too.”
TMS @ 5/11/2009 4:46 PM
i just wanna see someone pull a Papelbon triple fist pump / constipated at the toilet maneuver when they cross homeplate... that would be an alltime classic moment.

You guys already know the moves he made this past offseason in acquiring Swisher, CC, AJB, Pettitte, Berroa & Ramiro Pena looks to be a nice young SS prospect for us to groom for the future.

As you can see, he's made his fair share of good moves & bad moves, & other moves that were a comparable wash, but for the most part the good moves outweigh the bad, & there's absolutely no denying the results achieved in terms of championships & division titles & overall games won during his tenure, which is unmatched by any other GM in baseball... the only young players he's traded away that have amounted to much in the majors that he didn't get good value in return for has been Mike Lowell & Ted Lilly... there have been other young players he's traded away like Juan Rivera, Nick Johnson, Dioner Navarro, Marcus Thames & Christian Guzman who have become quality players in the majors, but he got back good players in every 1 of those deals that helped this team... he's also signed a good amount of quality young talent for our minor leagues like Soriano, Wang & Cano, as well as drafted some very good young talent like Hughes, Kennedy, Joba & Austin Jackson while completely rebuilding the farm system from 1 of the worst in baseball to 1 of the best.

so yeah, take ur digs at Cashman, call him a bad GM or below average GM or whatever else u wanna call him, but there's really no arguing w/the facts here, & i still have yet to hear anyone tell me who would have done such a better job than he has over the time he's been here.
A list of pleasant trades doesn't make a an outstanding GM. (Just saw this list again.) There doesn't seem to be any philosophy underlying these moves other than "If we get big number producing hitters, we can outscore everyone." All I see here is a GM who put about 80% of his mental energy into big name hitters and until this last off-season, saved the remaining 20% for pitching. That's probably part of why we were in the desperate situation we were in for pitching this off-season and simply had to gamble on the guys we gambled on.

those are just about ALL of the moves he's made as a GM since he took over, most of which have panned out nicely for the Yankees' franchise! i didn't just pick & choose some examples to suit my point like you like to do... u telling me i don't understand what a GM does when u can't even point out more than a handful of high profile moves you disagreed with over the past few years that you heard about on Sportscenter is a joke... watch a few more decades of baseball before u try & pretend like you can drop some knowledge on this topic... ur just making urself look more foolish with every post you make... take my advice & cut your losses.
