nah, he got clipped on the elbow... the second one was on the tuckus.
Wang looks great today so far. Up between 93-95 MPH already in the 1st inning. 2 strikeouts in the 1st, including Blalock on a nice slider (looked like he lost confidence in the slider early in the year - he needs that pitch). I like what I see so far....
HR Damon and away we go....
i'm listening to the game - sounds like wang is dealing.
and how many times has tex been caught in a run down on a throw from the outfield?

Yeah Tex misread that but I like the aggressiveness (Nelson Cruz has some arm - he's a good looking ballplayer for Texas).
Wang looked fantastic early even though he's gotten roughed up a little the past two innings. The stuff is back and that's what matters most - hard 93-95 & DOWN in the zone early. Broke out a few nice sliders so far as well. Just gotta get this kid's head right now... I love Cervelli behind the plate btw. The guy's full of energy - he does a great job. Our future catching tandem of Montero/Cervelli has a chance to be really special...
Speaking of minor leaguers - what do you guys make of
Austin Jackson's year so far at Scranton?
48 G, .346 AVG, 179 AB, 62 H, 11 2B, 3 3B,
0 HR, 23 RBI, 20 BB,
51 SO,
11 SB,
0 CS, .422 OBP
Interesting stats. Looks like A-Jax might project to be a quality average hitter with nice gap power but might not neccessarily be a big HR threat power, although it's still early and sometimes power develops later with some guys (Bernie comes to mind right away). Strikeout totals are a little alarming but he's fast and is supposed to be a quality OFer with a plus arm. Might be looking at a Robinson Cano-type offensive player only with better speed plus the legit OF skills. I'll take that.
Jesus Montero looking great so far this season btw (#s for Tampa):
48 G, .356 AVG, 180 AB, 64 H, 15 2B, 1 3B,
8 HR, 37 RBI, 14 BB,
26 SO, .422 OBP, .583 SLG, .989 OPS
I know we're talking A ball but those are awesome numbers. Only 26 SOs for a big power hitter is impressive. Montero just got the call up to Trenton and in his 1st game he went 1-4 with an RBI.
Two real nice prospects for us to look forward to..

montero is beasting. ajax may be a year or two away.
good to hear about wang. my goodness i hate john sterling. i love his homerrun calls - they're fun. but he psyched me out twice already thinking the yanks hit a homerun when they didn't.
they seem to be getting alot of hits off wang. is he leaving the pitches up?

Wang should go back to the pen.

For his season #s right now, no. If he keeps up what he's done after April for the rest of the year, then yes.
yanks are awesome. lets close this one out now

and to think everyone wanted him murdered the first few weeks of the year......
mo is killing me right now
Wang looks like a shell of his former self. I honestly think he may be too fragile to come out of this and be as good as he once was...

But but I've been told his problems are purely physical and have nothing to do with being mentally fragile.
Jackson would be up right now if we really needed outfield help. As it is pencil him in to start next year. Montero's bat is way ahead of his glove. Still not sure what his position is gonna be, but its probably not catcher.

& to think Mo wanted jimi murdered just a few minutes ago.

he looked great the first 3 innings then ran into trouble w/that wild pitch & then got unnerved from there... i think he still needs to build up his arm strength, but the movement on his pitches early in this game looked as good as it did in his recent relief stints.

he projects as a 1B/DH type player if u ask me... he'll probably end up being trade bait eventually... i think Cervelli has a better shot of succeeding Jorge than Montero does.
& i wouldn't bank on Jax starting for us next season... this is just his 1st season at the AAA level & he's only 22... i think he'll get a late season call up this season & then depending on how he does in ST next year they'll decide if he's ready to be thrown into the fire or not... i still think the Yanks will look to sign a short term solution in the OF if Damon, Matsui & Nady are allowed to sign w/other teams, or if the latter 2 are allowed to walk & Damon is signed to be a fulltime DH... someone like Jermaine Dye would make a lotta sense on a 1 year deal... he's still a very productive hitter even at his advanced age & is a good short term solution for RF next season, w/Swisher & Melky playing the other 2 OF spots... i think Jason Bay is gonna command at least a 5 year contract after the season he's having & i doubt the Yankees will wanna go that long for him, especially w/Jeter's longterm future at SS & Austin Jackson looming in the near future.

if he's elected MVP he needs to cut that trophy in half & give the other half to ARod.
