See I disagree. I know you guys don't like him and I know I really don't have two legs to stand on here because he's underachieved so far this year but I don't see how a team with legit bullpen problems just gives up on a guy with that type of stuff - here's a guy still in his 20s that when right throws 95+ with one of the better sliders for a reliever in the entire game. You just give up on this guy when we had options with other players like David Robertson? I heard Michael Kay say on the broadcast that the Yankees didn't want to send Robertson down to the minors, that he didn't deserve a demotion. WTF are you kidding me? What the hell has David Robertson done so far since he's been up? I know his numbers are decent but come on, has David Robertson really shown anyone that he's a lights-out, go-to guy for the 7th/8th inning at any time he's been up with the big club either this year or last year?? Tie game 2-2, 8th inning, Yankees/Red Sox at Fenway, fighting for the pennant later this year, Youkilis at the plate, 2nd and 3rd, 1 out. Robertson in to face Youkilis. Anyone feel good about that matchup? He's got pretty decent stuff and I like Robertson but they flat-out mismanaged their pitching resources here. Robertson needed to be sent down - that was the move to make. Not the first time they made this mistake - they stupidly gambled with Humberto Sanchez in a similar move a month or so ago and got damn lucky to get him back and now they pull the same nonsense with Veras. I don't get it. What happens if Bruney's not right and has to shut it down for good at some point, God forbid? Then what? Veras could've wound up being a major contributor for us from here on in, provided Eiland and co. could've gotten him straightened out somewhat. I mean wasn't he decent for us last year and the year before that? Yes he was. He made the team this spring based on what he did for us last year and the year before. Well kiss this guy goodbye - I give it 24 hours before someone snatches this guy up. Hopefully we can pull off a trade to at least get something for him rather than lose him for nothing but they shouldn't have even put themselves in this position - it didn't have to even come to this. Are we that good where we can just throw away quality arms like this in the trash can? Rediculous...

i agree that it sucks we had to give up on this guy but he was given plenty of chances this year & continued to fail... at some point u just have to cut bait... i wish we could have sent him down but he was out of options... u can't allow the guy to continue to hurt the team... throwing 95+ is of no use to us if he can't control where those pitches are going.
Veras flat out sucks. He has no command at all. He's like 29 years old. Believe it or not there are a lot of guys floating around baseball throwing 95 mph that can't throw strikes. He got the most innings out of anyone in our bullpen and did nothing with em.
David Robertson is better than Veras now and is better than Veras will ever be.
veras' motion was way too violent.
someone will pick him up - but we have better options at this point.
We'll probably get someone very similar for him in a trade- a younger hard throwing reliever in AAA
The guy we got from the Pirates for Eric Hacker, Romulo Sanchez, is a really hard throwing reliever, for example.
Anyone know whats up with Humberto Sanchez? We got him from the Tigers I think a year ago and he had Tommy John surgery, but I remember he threw pretty damn hard before that surgery.

We cut him and brought him back. The injury really stunted his progress. Don't think he's pitched yet this year.
arod is guessing wrong on every pitch...
so, is it time to start moving arod down in the line-up? Having an automatic out in the four hole just isn't going to produce alot of runs. Maybe it's time to move someone else up and let arod work it out further down in the batting order.

ah, ok.. thanks Des. Hopefully he can regain some of that form he had, he looked like he was going to be pretty good.

if anything u'd wanna move ARod up in the lineup, maybe bat him 3rd in front of Teix so he gets some protection... our #5 hitters aren't scaring anyone at this point & Teix has been beasting ever since ARod came back to the lineup... maybe it's time they switch places & see if ARod can get a jolt from Teix batting behind him now that Teix is probably the most feared hitter in this lineup right now?

this lineup just got shut down by Craig Stammen??? what did i tell u guys, the way this team seems to struggle vs. no name pitchers is maddening... last night they couldn't do anything vs. John Lannan either, but i'll give them a pass cuz he's having a solid year for the Nats ERA wise this year... but seriously, do guys like this have any business dominating a lineup like ours? i don't think so... i think our team's scouting is a problem... they should know the tendencies of these guys... the fact that they haven't seen them is not an excuse, we should have better scouting reports & these hitters should be having a better approach to hitting these guys.

You know, after posting that, I was thinking the same thing.
Yesterday was a weird game, Stammen didn't have good stuff, he was just throwing strikes we weren't getting great swings- then when we did we got stuffed by some good defensive plays, especially in the later innings. We didn't play typical Yankee baseball yesterday- didn't wear downt he pitcher, didn't draw walks- partly b/c the guy was just throwing fastballs and we just werne't getting hits.
lineup looked considerably worse with jeter out. and arod is slumping big time. needs a day or two off...
Offense by nature is inconsistent. Having Jeter and Posada out in the same game definitely hurt too though.
A-Rod could be just slumping, could be still recovering from injury, or in the worst case scenario might never be close to the same player again. We're talking about his hip, not his toe nail. It's impossible for us to know which of these possibilities is the case.
i know i stand on the other side of the fence here but our offense is good, but can be stopped. that's going to be an issue down the road, especially if arod doesn't rebound.
I think he's just recovering right now. He had no spring training. If he lost something he wouldn't have come out the gate hitting 6 or 7 homers in his first 10 games. Right now I think he's suffering from some fatigue as he basically hasn't missed a game since he came back from his injury, which he came back from fairly quickly in spite of its seriousness. His batting eye and power are still there.
