BTW, the Jays released BJ Ryan. Would anyone be interested in picking him up? He's struggled mightily this year and since his injury, but if he could settle in a bit he could be a great pickup

I'd take a flyer on him no problem. Any pitcher that's been good in the AL East I will never have a problem trying out. Lefty specialist, anyone?

Really excited for Aceves to start tommorow. Wouldn't be surprised to see him claim a rotation spot with the way he's been pitching this year.
djsunyc @ 7/9/2009 1:30 AM
ok, who's better, the yankees or the yankees?

Same here. I hope they give him a few starts even if today's doesn't go well actually.

Didn't go that great today, but the Yanks pen pieced it together. They have been great lately.

They've been exceptional lately. Makes DJ, whoops, I mean, Cashman look good.

why not, couldn't hurt... Coke's been solid for us but i'm scared his arm might get worn out if he keeps getting used like this... would be good to have another lefty reliever in the pen to take some of the pressure off.
Bonn1997 @ 7/9/2009 8:20 PM
That 1.71 WHIP against lefties is pretty bad. Lefties are hitting only .250 against him but he's walking so many of them.
Bonn1997 @ 7/10/2009 8:26 AM
If Wang's still injured, would you guys give Aceves another try as a starter?

Well other than Coke and Rivera, it's not exactly the same players DJ was bragging about in the offseason (Melancon, Marte, Veras) but the pen does look a lot better and DJ was right about Coke at least. I still think any nonpartisan baseball fan would take the Red Sox pen over ours though.
Bonn1997 @ 7/10/2009 8:42 AM
Our pen actually looks a lot better than our starting rotation now. The pen's ERA is 3.93 but if you exclude the guys who aren't even part of our active roster (Clagget, Marte, Veras, Ramirez, Melancon), it's right around 3.00. AJ and CC are really our only dependable starters, though. I'm not sure we can expect much improvement internally. I think at this point in his career Andy is what he is--a shaky 4.50 ERA pitcher. Joba looks like there's something wrong physically with him. Improvement from Wang is the only way I foresee the team's starting rotation improving without acquiring new pitchers. Or they could bring Hughes back to the starting rotation but it doesn't look like they're planning to do that. He's looking too good in the bullpen anyway. I think Cashman is going to try to acquire a starting pitcher before the trade deadline. Gardner or Cabrera plus minor league prospects might be involved IMO.

13 out of last 15 - won last 5 series in a row and now only 1/2 game back from boston (one more loss, tied in wins) going into the pre all star series against anaheim.....

A quick recap of the Yankees’ 2009 season to date
July 10, 2009

* They are 0-8 against the Red Sox.

* Chien-Ming Wang is 1-6 and on the DL for a second time.

* Brian Bruney missed 40 games over two DL stints and hasn’t found his groove since he returned.

* Joba Chamberlain has been erratic every five days.

* Mark Teixeira hit .190 in April and went 95 at-bats without a home run in June/July.

* Alex Rodriguez missed a month after hip surgery.

* His replacement, Cody Ransom, then went on the DL himself, leaving third-base to scrappy minor-leaguer Ramiro Pena and aging 31-year-old Angel Berroa until A-Rod came back.

* Jorge Posada (22 games) and Jose Molina (54 games) have both been on the DL, leaving catching duties to Double-A call-up Francisco Cervelli and journeyman Kevin Cash.

* Robinson Cano went about two weeks without an RBI and hasn’t hit with guys on base all year.

* Xavier Nady played for a week before blowing out his elbow.

* Andy Pettitte’s ERA at Yankee Stadium is almost 6.00.

* Damaso Marte pitched terribly and has been out with a bum shoulder since April.

* Edwar Ramirez and Jose Veras stunk and were sent down/released.

* The Yankees are 51-34 and tied for first place in the American League East.

Can we trade Joba + others for Halladay before Joba's value decreases any further?
