Kazmir's a good pitcher. What a bad trade the Mets made!

yea, tampa can hit and they were missing Rocco Baldali all year. they do need some pitching, but for the mets trading kazmir for basically nothing can haunt them for years, that kid is s true ace and the mets sure could use a guy like that right about now..

Michael Kay got a bit obnoxious announcing A-Rod's homer. I think he was trying to get his own voice on the Sports Center highlights

Michael Kay is extremely annoying. Sterling is much more fun to listen to. Kay makes the most ridiculously dumb observations and tries to treat them like insight. At least soon we won't have to hear him anymore.

kay is pretty bad. sterling tho...jeez, that guy is just a parody.

here's the crazy thing - all first round of the playoffs are on TBS - which means those in NY can not watch any first round playoff game (AL or NL) on HD. and the 2nd round, the NL is on TBS while the AL is on FOX. so until the world series, no NL games in HD and the AL gets HD only after the first round. what the heck is MLB thinking?

That's total BS. I watched every Yankee game in HD this year and now I have to watch the first round of the playoffs without it?

MLB sold their souls, that's what happened. TNT comes in HD, if you're going to buy the MLB playoffs, step it up and make TBS HD too.

Can haunt them? It IS haunting them.

There is a TBS HD I believe, but Time Warner in NYC doesn't get it, which blows.

i agree... i can't stand listening to Michael Kay on the game broadcasts... the guy whines about every topic that he brings up on his radio show every single time... he's much better when he's just bantering back & forth w/Paulie or Al Leiter, but when he cracks those corny jokes or drones on & on about every topic from his radio talk show ad nauseum, he really grates on my nerves... u always know when he's getting into that mode when he doesn't let anyone else get a word in edgewise, asks rhetorical questions to his comrades in the booth & then immediately contradicts every observation they make w/his own opinions.

just shut up & call the game Mike, please!
tkf @ 9/28/2007 11:57 AM
hey isles. Could you imagine the phone call between the mets and Tampa GM?

LOL.. I am sure Tampa GM was like, give up (I think victor zambrano), a very average veteran for a stud, can't miss, ace pitcher.... who we don't have to pay big money to for the next 4 years! hahahahaha!!! what the hell were the mets thinking? seriously..
TMS @ 9/28/2007 11:59 AM
i think the Mets thought they were getting Carlos Zambrano, not Victor Zambrano... someone musta bamboozled them... that's the only explanation i can think of on that stroke of brilliance.

I would place the blame on the Mets "pitching guru", Rick Peterson. I think he was the one pushing for it.

It's one thing to get taken in a trade, but to get completely killed, by the Tampa GM no less, should be a fireable offense. There wasn't a single person who follows baseball who thought that it was a good trade for the Mets. Except for the geniuses on the Mets who made one of the worst trades in baseball history.

If Kazmir were still on the Mets right now, he would be vying for the NL Cy Young and the Mets would have clinched the division by now.
djsunyc @ 9/28/2007 3:08 PM
cablevision just got TBS HD. i think time warner nyc and tbs are in negotiations to get it by the time the playoffs start.

End of story!!!!!

The odd thing about this tho isles is that teams rarely ever want to trade young stud pitchers unless they are getting back a pretty young star in return. In other words, you trade top prospects to get a Johan Santana, or to get a young position player like Reyes, or Holliday from the Rockies, those kinds of deals you make, but for victor Zambrano?!!!!!!!!! Damn!!! There was a reason why the yanks made guys like Joba and Hughes untouchable, Hell kazmir was not just another prospect, he is a lefty who throws 96 and can command 2 other pitches well... You are right, that was the worst trade probably in baseball history, outside of the yanks ripping the sox off for babe ruth.
Bonn1997 @ 9/28/2007 7:47 PM
Part of me is hoping Moose has a bad outing so that Phil Hughes (hopefully) gets the #4 spot.

classy, but he is blaming randolph? why? blame their GM, their pitching staff is old and past their prime, they have no pen, they have guys like delgado and alou who are well past their primes and reyes can't play a whole year at a high level. The mets were a bit overrated, tehe phillies have a better lineup with equally bad pitching...

Allanfan20 @ 9/30/2007 1:48 PM
Posada is coaching tonight. Jeter is the bench coach, but he'll play for a couple of innings. Mussina is the pitching coach, again, and Ron Villone is the bullpen coach. Not sure who the hitting, first and third base coaches are.

I agree tkf, but the NY Media, in typical fashion from what I understand is blaming him.

"Matsui Knee Needs Drain"

Here's another article on the same story

http://www.nypost.com/seven/09302007/spo...
MATSUI KNEE NEEDS DRAIN

eptember 30, 2007 -- BALTIMORE - Joe Torre insisted Hideki Matsui being sent to New York last night to have his balky right knee drained today isn't that big of a deal. However, the procedure likely will limit Matsui to DH duty against the Indians when the ALDS opens in Cleveland on Thursday night.

"It's nothing serious," Torre said of Matsui having fluid removed from the hinge that has been a problem for most of the season. "It won't affect his status."

What it does do is kill any plans Torre may have had about getting Jason Giambi into the lineup as the DH, playing Matsui in left and using Johnny Damon in center for the slumping Melky Cabrera, who has one hit in 20 at-bats (.050).

Of course, Giambi could be used as the DH if Matsui can't make it. Matsui, who ended the season batting .285 with 25 homers and 103 RBIs, finished in a 6-for-23 (.261) mini-slide. The knee wasn't a serious enough issue to keep Matsui out of left field Thursday and Friday night.

Glad to hear it. If anything, Melky's defense in CF more than justifies letting him ride out this slump.

So, we get the Indians....I have some fears that this could be the "we got more than we bargained for" kind of thing for both the Yanks and the fans. Since we killed them in the reg season fans have been clamoring around the idea that we want to play them. Not to say we want to play the Angels, for obvious reasons, but I highly doubt we are going to roll over Cleveland with the 1-2 pitching duo they can throw out in a short series.

Should be an exciting series though...and playoffs, especially with the competition level in the AL, although when the WS comes around it will be anyone's guess who will win because favorites seem to do the exact opposite.
