So, we get the Indians....I have some fears that this could be the "we got more than we bargained for" kind of thing for both the Yanks and the fans. Since we killed them in the reg season fans have been clamoring around the idea that we want to play them. Not to say we want to play the Angels, for obvious reasons, but I highly doubt we are going to roll over Cleveland with the 1-2 pitching duo they can throw out in a short series.
Should be an exciting series though...and playoffs, especially with the competition level in the AL, although when the WS comes around it will be anyone's guess who will win because favorites seem to do the exact opposite.

I hear you, and I typically never advocate the "we want to play them" strategy. In this case, however, I don't want to lose to the Angels in the first round again. Maybe the Yanks will have better luck in a seven game series (assuming they make it that far), but I'm hoping the Red Sox bea the Angels if the Yankees advance. I really, really do not want the team to play the Angels.

I'm really happy the Mets coked by the way. All season long all I heard about as how great the Mets are and how much the Yankees suck. Maybe the Mets fans were right, but my team is going to playoffs.

What it does do is kill any plans Torre may have had about getting Jason Giambi into the lineup as the DH, playing Matsui in left and using Johnny Damon in center for the slumping Melky Cabrera, who has one hit in 20 at-bats (.050).
Glad to hear it. If anything, Melky's defense in CF more than justifies letting him ride out this slump.
I agree. If Giambi was the dangerous hitter he was last year, it would be worth it to get his bat in the lineup. But he's been awful since returning from injury.
Hilarious comment by Willie Guiest (sp?) on MSNBC
"If you're a Mets fan who grew up in NY, something is fundamentally wrong with you. You had a choice between the Mets and the Yankees and you chose the Mets."
(I'm quoting from memory--I might have a few words off.)
It'll be interesting to see who gets on the postseason roster. The bullpen decisions are gonna be huge.
Kennedy threw off a mound the other day- I dont know that he'll be available vs. Cleveland, but he could be ready for the ALCS.

yeah - they initially just gave all the HD channels in the 700's...but now their matching up the #'s. like espn is on 28 but espnHD is on 728. yes is on 30, so yesHD is now on 730. etc.
yanks/cle
thu @ cle 630pm
fri @ cle 5pm
sun @ nyy 630pm
mon @ nyy 6pm*
wed @ cle 5pm*
games 4 & 5 are subject to change.
btw, i have no idea if the yanks are gonna win this series or not.
wang has been struggling lately, as has pettite. clemens hasn't pitched in a while and moose is doo doo.
arod is an awesome player - he's basically a very good guess hitter. he can be stopped in a short series.
and who's knows about mariano. it's tough to be confident in this team so i'm going 50/50 right now on whether they win or not.

I think most teams have those same question marks. That's what makes it so exciting!
i didn't think they would make the postseason so this is all gravy...

Not only that, but also their future looks bright with Joba, Hughes, and Kennedy. Once I saw how promising those 3 looked, I actually felt fine if the team didn't make the playoffs b/c I thought the future would be bright anyway. So yeah this is definitely gravy.

our offense trumps theirs by a mile... but the pitching questions are legit... Sabathia has never had any success pitching against us (1-7 career), but we haven't faced him in 4 years & he's a much improved pitcher now... this team hasn't hit lefty pitching on the road all season, so that's a worry... the bullpens are about equal in terms of depth, but we have Joba & Mo & they don't... i'm gonna say we take this series in 4 games, but it won't be an easy 4 games.
