i'd go w/the 3 man rotation again & then it's all hands on deck for game 7 if it comes down to it... can't risk Gaudin in what could be a pivotal game 4 start in Anaheim.

I say if you're up 3-0 you try Gaudin in game 4 so you can potentially throw CC in game 1 of the world series. Otherwise, you have him go on 3 days
i'll agree w/u on that one... i doubt we'll be up 3-0 tho.
just wanna offer my newfound respect for Ron Gardenhire... the guy managed that Twins team & got every ounce of production anyone could possibly get outta them... his postgame comments were about the classiest i've ever heard a losing MGR make about the team that just beat them.

& all i can say is i'm damn glad none of our guys made as boneheaded a base running blunder as this tonight... i feel bad for Nick Punto but man, that just killed them tonight

That was a really exciting series. The games were close even though it was a sweep. Cash's big off-season acquisitions are paying off.
yanks/angels will come down to 1 thing: scoscia vs. girardi
^^^^id give the nod to scocia there....let's hope the players win the series...

overall yes, but i'm talking about this upcoming series...if girardi makes the right calls on defense and with h&r, bunting, bullpen (especially the bullpen where games are won/lost) etc, we have a good shot to win it.
this is girardi's first postseason also as a manager. he's an x-factor in this too. all the players are good so i think that'll work itself out.

IMO this series is gonna come down to whoever executes the fundamentals... the Angels have the edge cuz that's their brand of baseball more than it is ours... we rely more on the longball than they do but we do still have guys who can play small ball if we need it... this year we have a team that matches up very well with them cuz we can match their starting pitching & our bullpen is great... we also have more versatile players on the bench than we've had in prior series against the Angels w/the additions of Hairston, Hinske, Gardner, Molina & Cervelli.
this proves that it's not just about 3 big money acquisitions that our GM made in the offseason... he built a real team here, complete from the groundup... stabilized our pitching w/the 2 bigmoney guys as well as bringing Andy back on a terrific 1 year value deal, drastically improved our bullpen w/guys like Hughes, Joba, Coke, Gaudin & Aceves... brought in some experienced vets to upgrade our bench... traded for Nick Swisher who's been invaluable all year to the team's chemistry & produced on the field as well... yeah, CC, AJ & Teix have been awesome this year, no getting around that, but we've gotten some huge contributions from just about every one of Cashman's acquisitions this year.

game one in the bleachers again...here we go su......popcorn and beer flyin, the matsui couple gettin mobbed, a bbq pit for that damn rally monkey of theirs....oh its gonna be great....
how does that old adage go? Managers don't win games, they can only lose them.
To me the series boils down to two things: hitting with RISP and Hunter/Guerrero vs. Teix/ARod

I agree it is about two things, but before you can have hitting with RISP, you need to get runners on base. So to me, it comes down to can our pitchers (or theirs) keep runners from getting on AND which team can prevent those runners from taking extra bases when they do get on. The question really is, can Jorge throw people out and if not, can he make up for it with his bat. Will be interesting to see if jorge DH's any. In theory, the Angels could run all over us.

There are certainly components to that, yes. Defense can limit runners from getting into scoring position as can pitchers. Taking second by stealing or hit-and-run is another way etc. etc. You can focus on whatever inputs of the metric you want, the output is still how the team performs with RISP.
i just hope someone other than ARod, Jeter & Jorge decides to start hitting in the upcoming series.

So how would you tweak the roster for this series if at all? Do you go Bruney for Marte for round two? Abreu's really their only true left-handed hitter. Everyone else is either right-handed or switch-hitters. Bruney hitting 97 MPH might be a more important weapon for us than what Marte offers, esp. if Joba winds up starting one of these games...
do we take 3 catchers? with a 7 game series, an extra pitcher may be needed. i like marte but girardi can't trust him. so if you can't trust him, then you can't pitch him.
marte and bruney are just not reliable....this is a series where we gotta be thinking about people not getting on base. also, i dont think you go w 3 catchers - cervelli aint ready for this stage yet, molina and posada are fine.
I'm not sure how one likes Marte. He sucks balls. I'd rather have Gaudin as the lefty specialist besides Coke.
