We made the right call on the pitchers. Aj just can't pitch on the road.

PLUS, AJ's #'s going in on 3-days rest were great. if gaudin gets murdered then everybody's screaming "well they should've gone with AJ on 3 days rest." i'm happy with girardi's moves, no way you throw gaudin i mean its comical. the guy pitched 2 innings in october, now its november and you're going to trot him out there. he was 6-10 this year!!! you play to win the championship, you're one win away. like bonn said, i'd rather have CC on 3 days rest than pettitte and full rest pitch game 7 anyway.

jimimou, this comment is just silly. "for $82.5 million, you would think aj would have been fine w 3 days rest. thats what we bought him for. to pitch for us in the postseason." yeah, and he's done that. he pitched an absolute gem in game 2 to keep us in the series, did what he was asked to do and got hit hard by a great phillies lineup. utley has the most postseason homers of all-time, they are nasty pretty much top to bottom, how many MVPs do they have, and ppl act as if b/c burnett signed a big deal he has to have 7 IP, 15 K, 0 ER everytime he goes out.

i dont know if its silly. we paid him alot of money b/c he was supposed to be that guy, consistent starts in the postseason. i know he pitched a gem in game 2 and i place no fault on him for the bad night on monday. he got psyched out and that was that. if we had it to do over again, i would still give him the ball in game 5.

but, compare him to cc, who has has pitched gems EACH night he's been out there....that's what we paid cc for and he is delivering consistently. he's gotten the job done each time, unlike aj who has not....despite the heavy hitting line-up of the phillies.

all in all, i like what girardi has done w the rotations - he is putting the guys out there who deserve to be out there (aj being one). we saw the erratic aj on monday, the steelar one i game 2. i dont believe burnett's been consistent all year, but he is the big name #2 on this staff and girardi felt most comfortable going with him on 3 days rest than anyone else. i support that decision, just didnt like the outcome.

all good, let's move on to tonight....close this out for the old man....streinbrenner!!!!

VDesai @ 11/4/2009 10:21 AM
You don't pay a guy and suddenly make him change. We should've known what AJ is (a very inconsistent pitcher), but we still paid him what we did. What is he, not gonna take the cash? We paid him what we did and he gave us what he's generally done in his career.

But if you want two guys pitching in Yankee stadium in potential World Series clinching games- Pettitte and CC are on the short list. Game 5 was a favorable matchup for the Phils, but these next two are really ours to lose.

the '96 team came back from an 0-2 deficit to win in 6 games... we have a 3-2 lead & if we lose tonight & tomorrow then we don't deserve to celebrate anyway... i think this team has the character & grit to bring this home.

LET'S DO THIS! This one's for GEORGE!

Well for the full MLE, Duhon should've never broken down last season. This kind of talk makes no sense. Yankees overpay. But Giriardi shouldn't convince himself AJ is something other than what he is. How was AJ on the road this year?

jusnice @ 11/4/2009 1:22 PM
seriously. what's with all the debate. We have two iron horses on the mound tonight and it will probably come down to both bullpens (if that is the case, I really like the Yank's chances). No way you would pitch Gaudin over Pettite or AJ. First championship for ARod tonight!

comparing duhon to aj is like comparing eddy to the guy who just won the nyc marathon.....

How do you know that Andy on three days rest is an Iron Horse?

Would you rather have Andy short rest or AJ full rest?

TMS @ 11/4/2009 5:46 PM
i'd rather have either AJ or Andy on 3 days' rest than Gaudin on a month's rest
TMS @ 11/4/2009 7:07 PM

Game 5: Gaudin without pitching for a month or AJ on three days rest. I know this turned out bad but objectively the odds would be much more in your favor for this game going with AJ.
Game 6: AJ on regular rest or Andy on three days rest. AJ on regular rest would be better. You're right. BUT...
Game 7: Andy on regular rest or CC on three days rest. I'd rather have CC in there.

I believe your approach gives us worse odds in two of the final three games of the series.

cc starts 7, if needed, and if cc has issues, ap comes in (in the gaudin route). to me that is far better odds then cc and then std bullpen if cc has probs. whos to say had gaudin gone, he couldnt have gone 3ip, and they run in daveR/ace/joba/mo? we wont know. lets hope ap smokes it like its 1996.
