NJ has no speed but in the #2 hole u want a guy that can either move Jeter over to scoring position or get on base himself... against righties i'd bat Granderson leadoff & Jeter 2nd
VDesai @ 12/18/2009 9:34 PM
If Johnson is batting 2nd, Tex/ARod are a lock for 120 RBI each, because he'll be on base close to 45% of the time.
TMS @ 12/19/2009 2:40 AM
at this point i think we just need to get Chapman in the fold & sign 1 other veteran starter... that gives us lefty depth out of the bullpen & allows us to keep Hughes in the setup role... our lineup is pretty much set

1 - Jeter SS
2 - NJ DH
3 - Teix 1B
4 - ARod 3B
5 - Granderson CF
6 - Jorge C
7 - Swisher RF
8 - Cano 2B
9 - Melky/Gardner LF

OK I feel ya. You're right, that's probably what we'll wind up seeing - those 2 lineups.

TMS @ 12/20/2009 3:49 PM
some reports linking Melky or Garder w/the Cubs... i'm thinking in a possible package for Ted Lilly? they seem to have a surplus of starting pitching now & need a CFer... we're looking for a #4 starter... would love to have Lilly back in pinstripes.

A-Rod does not need more extensive hip surgery, according to ESPN

FYI, we now have a Yankees page up on SlickSports.com. Check it out if you read NY Yankees articles.

so we swapped matsui for nick johnson? that's a curious move...
djsunyc @ 12/21/2009 12:37 PM
btw, i have no qualms moving on from damon + matsui. we won our ring, now we want to start thinking a little long term to the future...granderson is an awesome first step (hopefully crawford next winter)...

the only question, as it always is with us, is whether they players can perform in nyc...but that's a risk you take with any acquisition.

The Yanks didn't swap... they chose Damon, Matsui didn't want to wait, and Damon has an asshole for an agent.

Here's a statistic

Damon - 36 years old
Granderson - 28 years old

Matsui - 35 years old
Johnson - 31 years old

TMS @ 12/21/2009 2:09 PM
i still think the door isn't completely closed on Damon coming here... we can still look for a LF upgrade, if he comes down to the Yankees' terms & accepts the final 2 year $14 mil contract they offered after NJ got signed, he'll be a Yankee... maybe they can work in some incentives to make the deal work for both parties? probably a pipe dream at this point but i really hate to see him go, he's so perfect for us & i love what he brings to the dugout in terms of his personality... he helps to keep everyone else loose along w/Swish... we still have some money Cashman is able to spend in the budget for next season & the Steinbrenners have allowed him to go above the budget to sign guys before if he felt the team needed them to win (Teix)... i think he could persuade the Yankees to make an exception for Damon too, he's meant a lot to this franchise over the years.

I think Cash is going to focus on pitching now. I think he said we should see another announcement soon, before the new year. Damon will likely still be available come April as long as Boras is his agent. I wouldn't expect to see anything with Damon and the Yankees before then

definitely not until Holliday & Bay sign, that's for certain... if we don't sign him i hope the Royals bring him back & he can finish out his career where he started... just don't wanna see Johnny D playing for the Muts next season.

Yeah, but that could be a real possibility. I have a feeling Yanks are going to sign Sheets

TMS @ 12/21/2009 3:38 PM
Yanks have been interested in Sheets for a couple years but i just think he's way too big an injury risk to take on unless he comes at a huge discount... i'd rather trade for someone like Ted Lilly or sign a more reliable arm like Jon Garland to eat up innings at the back end of our rotation... i know we still have Gaudin & Mitre but neither of those guys are really reliable options either... also wouldn't mind bringing in Derek Lowe in a trade but he's got a pretty hefty contract i doubt it fits into our budget.

I think the Zambrano rumor is total BS too. If we weren't giving up Hughes or Chamberlain for Halladay, we're not giving either up for Zambrano. His contract also is pretty hefty. Maybe the Cuban kid? Rumor has it the Marlins just made an offer, but that looks like BS too. Maybe this is the announcement Cash was alluding too. We should definitely offer more than the Sux and I have no doubt the Steinbrenner's would loosen the purse strings to do so....they should probably start removing any chairs in the near vicinity of Epstein

djsunyc @ 12/21/2009 3:48 PM
sox with beckett + lackey + lester could be quite formidable next year.

but imho, they downgraded their offense with cameron/bay swap and losing lowell. and they are taking a major hit defensively too without lowell and with victor martinez behind the plate. teams will run on them for days.

SupremeCommander @ 12/22/2009 1:44 AM
The Red Sox looks less like a baseball team these days and more like a math equation. They don't scare me anymore
EnySpree @ 12/22/2009 3:28 AM
I like the Nick Johnson signing...Nick can't play the field but the dude is a real deal major league hitter. He gets decent walks and simply gets on base alot...Nick is going to routinely move jeter into scoring position or become RBI's for Tex ands Arod...whats not to like? Don't forget Nick wanted to come back.

Matsui was always hurt also. Yankees get a little younger and I'm thinking chemistry will be better too. Matsui always gave me the impression he did not want to be in NY anymore. You can spin that the Yankees should of offered Matsui the money they gave Nick...but with the way Matsui left, maybe Matsui just wanted to play for the Angels before his career is over...nothing wrong with that at all.

Its all good in the hood fellas...yanks will definately get another pitcher and probably another bat. We are the evil empire afterall

BigSm00th @ 12/22/2009 3:38 AM
i agree re: not going after sheets or zambrano. with CC and AJ at the top, plus the potential for either joba or hughes (or hopefully both working out), the yankees have the electric arms. we need reliable innings eaters, not a flier on a guy like sheets who could be great or could make 5 starts and miss the rest of the year. i'd rather have garland or lilly and know i'm gonna get 200 IP or near it and go to battle with CC, AJ, andy, and either joba or hughes in october.
