It was very refreshing seeing Joba put it together in a tiget spot last night. I was very impressed with the amount of Yankee fans in the stadium as well. NY representing. We'll see if Andy looks like Andy or if his age truly begins to manifest itself. Bullpen is a little tired, so it'd be nice to seem him throw 7 innings, but that seems unlikely.
TMS @ 4/7/2010 2:38 PM
Robertson & Mitre should be able to give us a few innings of middle relief if Andy can't go 7 tonight... will be interesting to see how Joba's velocity is in the 2nd game of a back to back if he gets in... hopefully we won't have to rely on Chan Ho in a tight spot, but since he's on the roster we're gonna have to see if he can be relied upon in big situations down the road at some point.
TMS @ 4/7/2010 8:24 PM
bats are quiet tonight but at least Andy's keeping us in it as usual... time to put up some RUNS this inning!
TMS @ 4/7/2010 9:27 PM
tie game in the 7th... here comes Chan Ho *holding breathe*
TMS @ 4/7/2010 9:36 PM
sheesh, that Daniel Bard has some filthy stuff
TMS @ 4/7/2010 9:43 PM
Chan Ho with 23 sparkling innings of relief... nice to see

Great Yankees win and the Yanks win the series in Boston!
VDesai @ 4/7/2010 10:34 PM
Curtis has a very Yankee personality...

Just realized we took 2 out of 3 in Boston without the benefit of a base hit from our no.2 and no.3 hitters. This team is gonna be quite good.

even tho Nick Johnson didn't get a hit this series he had some important AB's... just gotta stay healthy... everytime i see him hit a foul off his foot or run the bases i swear he's gonna break a bone or pull a muscle.

Teix is a notorious slow starter so i'm not too worried about him... his bat will come around eventually... good thing is ARod has had some good swings & hit some balls hard... i like how Brett Gardner's been playing too, he's been a nice catalyst on the bases for us.

Curtis Granderson has fit in like a glove so far... good acquisition by Cashman... now i won't have to whine about losing Austin Jackson this year.

VDesai @ 4/8/2010 8:49 AM
Yeah I'm not at all worried about either of those 2 guys (Johnson or Tex) just marveling that this team could go on the road and take 2/3 from its bitter rival without even getting a base hit from those guys. Just shows how remarkably deep and balanced this team is up and down the batting order and how good the pitching can be. Definitely played like champs the last two nights.

Couldn't ask for a better way to win the game than what Grandy did to good ole Papsmear. Man did he crush that thing! Loved it..The next best thing to taking that idiot deep would be for someone to line one right off his noggin. FU Papelpuke you douchebag...LOL..Park pitched his ass off in relief too. He might prove to be very valuable coming outta that pen this year. The man's got good stuff - his arsenal's perfect for middle relief. You can definitely get some length outta this guy, and quality length...Great job holding that thing down last night Chan Ho.. Another good move by Cash...Very happy Yankee fan today boys. Life is good!
TMS @ 4/8/2010 9:41 AM
lol... everytime i see Papsmear with that dumb look on his face after he gives up a run it gives me sheer joy.

Ump calls Yanks, Sox 'a disgrace to baseball'
Thursday, April 8, 2010
BY JEFF ROBERTS
The Record

BOSTON — Umpire Joe West blasted the Yankees and Red Sox just before Wednesday's game, accusing the two clubs of being "pathetic and embarrassing" in dragging the pace of games and refusing to work with umpires.

The two teams, notorious for the slow tempo of their games, were denied some timeouts in the batter's box by home plate umpire Angel Hernandez during Tuesday night's 6-4 Yankees victory.

"They're the two clubs that don't try to pick up the pace," said West, chief of the umpiring crew that worked the three-game series in Boston. He was the home plate umpire Sunday. "They're two of the best teams in baseball. Why are they playing the slowest?

"It's pathetic and embarrassing. They take too long to play."

West would not allow Hernandez to comment. Hernandez denied at least three timeouts Tuesday night called by Derek Jeter, Marcus Thames and Boston's David Ortiz.

The two Yankees-Red Sox games this season lasted 3 hours and 46 minutes and 3 hours and 48 minutes, respectively.

"The commissioner of baseball says he wants the pace picked up," West said. "We try. And [Tuesday night's game] still almost went four hours."

West and the players agreed that the initiative to speed up games is not new, dating back five years. And it is a regular topic before the season begins broached by Bob Watson, vice president of rules and on-field operations for Major League Baseball, and a representative for the umpires.

"That issue is made every spring training … so it's not anything new," manager Joe Girardi said. "Are they trying to enforce it a little more? Right now it appears [they are]. The jury will be out on that at the end of the year."

West said special emphasis has not been placed on speeding up games this season. But umpires are evaluated on how quickly the games move, he said.

"All of baseball looks to these two clubs to pick up the pace," West said. "Angel did everything he could. The players aren't working with us.

"This is embarrassing, a disgrace to baseball."

West conceded that the Yankees and Red Sox often play high-scoring games and that both teams employ a strategic approach that involves hitters taking pitches. He also said pitchers attempt to be too fine.

"I understand it's strategy," West said. "I understand they're trying to set up the count and take so many pitches."

But he said that still does not explain the length of games between the archrivals.

The Yankees involved in Tuesday's incidents would not comment.

Jeter called timeout in the second inning and did not get it, but stepped out of the box completely and eventually time was called. He would not reveal what was said between him and Hernandez.

"There's really no need to get into it," Jeter said. "I'm not really one to say much about umpires."

Thames also tried to call timeout in the second and was denied. Posada, who got crossed up with pitcher A.J. Burnett when Ortiz asked and did not receive time, equally was non-committal.

"Ask Angel. I have no idea what that was all about," Posada said.

West admitted he's frustrated trying to speed up the tempo of games. But he said it's about more than just the Yankees and the Red Sox.

"I don't know what to tell you. I don't know what to do," he said. "I don't know how to make them pick up the pace.

"It's sad when school kids can't watch the end of the game because it ends too late."

sorry Joe, we don't mean to take time out from your apparently busy eating schedule... the sport of baseball has been just fine for over 100 years with the Yankees & Red Sox being at the heart of the greatest rivalry in sports, but you're right, they're pathetic & a disgrace for letting the game drag on for so long that eats into your busy schedule... perhaps you would like a Phil Rizzuto gig where you can take the last 3 innings off so you can beat the traffic home? call in a sub umpire? would that be more convenient for you Joe? whatever you need big guy... the Yankees & Red Sox are here to please you... just say the word.

Not sure if he needs to be insulted like that. Maybe he didn't say it in the nicest way but he is right. No game needs to be 4 hours, no matter the sport. A game shouldn't take that long to complete. But the Yankees and Red Sox also aren't the only 2 teams that do this. There are others, but they just chose the 2 biggest clubs.
Finestrg @ 4/8/2010 11:01 PM
WOW. Just WOW. What an f'in joke. First off, if they were gonna pull shit like this and to this great an extent, at least tell the two managers before the game starts. Give them an opportunity to inform their teams...Don't just blindside everyone envolved. It just wasn't cool and was a major distraction for everyone involved, pitchers & batters, everyone..No one on either side knew what to make of it, I mean you could see it....Just look at some of the comments by Posada, Jeter, Girardi afterwards.. And look at the TV announcers - they were forced to waste time commenting extensively on the subject after a while because it was so distracting, instead of talking about the game, the teams and the players. That shouldn't be...Not only did it come completely outta leftfield but Hernandez really looked like he was a dick about it to boot...Pathetic and embarrassing?!?! WTF is this idiot talking about?!? Yeah OK buddy, that's why the first game of the season was a Yankee/Red Sux game in prime time on ESPN. Not bad for two pathetic & embarrassing teams huh?? It's the best rivalry in baseball, probably in all of sports and this series was awesome with a capital A, despite the grandstanding sideshow by the umpires... Every Yankees/Boston series is awesome for that matter - that's what people care about and pay to see, not the umpiring...Funny, the only thing sub par about this series was the umpiring (forget all the granting time-out nonsense from the other night -- how 'bout the way that friggin' homeplate ump was squeezin' the shit out of Andy last night?? God, I was screaming at the TV throughout the entire game). Shut your mouth fat ass - it's a privilege for you to be out there umpiring a baseball game in the first place. 'Cowboy' Joe West..What a mother^&%$#@$ joke, I swear. As if this fool's important enough to even have a nickname. Couldn't care less about his resume or how long he's been around -- this guy's always been terrible from what I've seen...Nobody cares about you or your double chin pal, trust me on that...It's about the players. Your only job is to go out there, shut your mouth, remain impartial & try not to screw things up too badly. That's it...Hey, we all know umpires are due for a handful of screwups every game -- it's a hard job, I understand that. I wouldn't normally say anything but with this guy popping off the way he did, now the gloves have to come off a little bit... Hey Cowboy Joke, err Joe: Why don't you worry about that rather than insulting and disrespecting these two teams? How 'bout that? Some of these dopes really think they're bigger than baseball. Well they're not. F this moron...
