so let me get this straight... we should be dogging Teixeira out right now even after he played an integral role in us winning a championship last year & has been in the running for the MVP pretty much every year he's been in the majors, but i should be more patient with Javier Vazquez who hasn't proven a thing in his entire career other than the fact that he could strike guys out in a weak hitting NL & implode in playoff games?
I dont get it, Vazquez has bounced back from a rough start and is pitching well as of late. If he was out there still getting slaughtered, I'd be with you, but he isnt. Tex is still terrible.

you win a world series, there is built up equity. going nuts over what tex is doing right now is basically not looking at the big picture and is a mindset adopted by many 96'ers (or yankee fans that grew up in the mid 90's and were spoiled by all those championships). there was a period from 82-91 where the yankees were not a good team, a bad franchise, and had alot of drama courtesy of steinbrenner. tex playing bad now is passable since we are still winning.
Jeter has won how many rings for us and that didnt shield him from being booed, but now Tex is above accountability?
Tex is a mercenary, he is not some Yankee legend interwoven into the fabric of the franchise. He signed to us because we were the highest bidders. Nothing more nothing less. He didnt get 180 so he could have one good year. We're not talking about a mini slump, we're already into June now and he still is one of the worst bats in the lineup.
Booing is an established precedent, and players who have meant way more to this franchise have not been immune. Kinda weird why Tex is supposed to be so different and above that. Like I said, why is he of all people being treated with kid gloves?

doesn't make it right, or smart.
i'm just saying that tex is getting a pass b/c of last october and b/c we are still winning now. that's why he's being treated with "kid gloves".

if this team wasn't winning tex would be getting booed unmercifully, but since they are winning, people will let it slide. i think if this extends into july you will get a different story though.

Just let me know so I can mark it on my calendar and begin looking at this thread again. It is what it is...Nick Johnson sucks and is always hurt, Vazquez is showing up right now, but as DJ said, will ultimately be judged by what he does in October (if we are lucky enough to get there again), Melky, Damon and Jackson no longer wear the pinstripes and Aroldis Chapman is on the Reds. Can we move on?
it's funny i've made many different points about this team but you & the others only choose to focus on my comments about Javy Vazquez... it is what it is i guess as you say.

when he has a good game i don't come on here just to hammer him... i respond to people who come at me as if i was wrong to ever doubt the guy after he pitches 2 or 3 good games in June, as if he's accomplished something to justify the trade... let me see him knock off a string of 6 or 7 great games & then i'll start to rethink my comments, but as of now he's still got no cred with me... some of y'all was talking a ton of smack about Javy when we got him as if he was gonna give us 200+ strong innings this year with 15 wins... dude is gonna have to have a Cy Young calibre 2nd half to the season to get there at this rate.
as for Teix, i agree with you, he's been terrible this year... but he's a lot more proven so he gets a longer leash to get things right... when Javy was struggling this year i just heard you preaching patience with him... considering he doesn't have nearly the same track record of success over his career, i fail to see the logic there.
We just drafted Justin Bieber!

No, my post refers to the broken record and multiple players, not just Vazquez (see above reference to Melky, Jackson, Damon and Chapman). All I'm sayin is that the moves have been made and it'd be good to stop lamenting over moves the franchise did or didn't make in the post season. We are almost half way through this season and it seems silly to keep focusing on the past. It was all good to question the moves and even get pissed that we let Damon go, or Melky, or Austin Jackson, but you seem to be fixated on certain things and I was just reacting. At the end of the day, it's your perrogative. After all, you started this thread.
sorry but when i feel strongly about something i talk about it... if you wanna talk about something else, feel free to make a post about it... it's a free discussion thread.
this kid strasburg is FILTHY...this is like a phenom in the making. he might have the best stuff in the league already.
99 mph fastball...combined with an 85 mph curve...and has 2 other pitches!!?!?!
good for the nats...
kid's curve is nasty... almost like a slurve, breaks down & away from righthanded hitters... & that heater is consistent at 99... kid has some kinda stuff.
Nats just drafted another 17 yo phenom slugger w/the #1 pick named Bryce Harper who many are already hyping up to be the next A-Rod type talent... this kid is mashing already at the college level.
Phil Hughes - Cy Young candidate
Teix hopefully breaking out of his slump tonight... Granderson with a sweet gran salami.

the amazing thing to me is that strasburg only needed 94 pitches to strike out 14 guys... 14 guys!!!! i hope this kid stays healthy and out of trouble, he is an absolute phenom in every sense of the word. that slurve is just downright nasty, i mean honestly...

i'm gonna wait til he faces a tougher lineup than the Bucks but for his first game out where his nerves had to be at full tilt, it was a hugely impressive performance regardless... we'll see if once the league sees him a few times how he'll fare... Joba looked absolutely dominant when he burst upon the scene too but lately he's looked very hittable... i don't think the same will happen to Strasberg tho.
What's amazing is that this guy almost failed to make the team at SDSU b/c he was out of shape and over weight. Now he's super fit and killing em. His talent has really developed later than most kids, but it is all coming together at the right time for him. I wish him well this year. I wish him in pinstripes in 2-3 years...
from NO MAAS:
SJK: Is there anyone in the last few years, or during your tenure, that you regret letting go or were wrong about?
MN: There's no one who comes to mind that we released, but of course, when you trade these guys away, it will happen. Tyler Clippard comes to mind. I was telling somebody yesterday, we never tried him in relief. He's really found a nice role. He's a great kid and I'm happy he's doing so well.
SJK: Did you see [Jose] Tabata made his debut?
MN: I knew he was called up, but I haven't checked the box score. We always knew he would be a good player, but we're always going to trade good players -- not all of them, but some of them, because we're trying to win championships. The ownership has always told us, "The Yankees don't rebuild." The fans tell us that too. We're the New York Yankees. We don't go into a 3-year hiatus while we try to re-stock the system. We have to do this on the run. But those are the directives.
SJK: You raise a good point, because many fans expect you to acquire major league talent while giving up nothing.
MN: You can't do it. We gave up good players to get Curtis Granderson. We're going to do that. Our charge is to have enough players in our system so we can bring guys up to the big league team, and also be able to make trades. I'd love to have Tabata, Vizcaino, and Jackson, but that's the narrow view. Our responsibility is to win games in New York and win championships. That's why that stuff happens and will continue to happen.
give it up BigSmooth... we didn't trade for Javy Vazquez & sign Nick Johnson so we could be in a better position to win a championship... we would have been in much better position to do so had we just re-signed the guy who helped us win one last year named Johnny Damon.
i guess if we had traded Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada & Andy Pettitte when they were rooks it would have been the narrow view too? please... sometimes u get trades right & sometimes u get them wrong... Cashman got the Javy trade wrong, not once, but twice.
question to those who think we should do whatever it takes to win championships in NY:
do you trade Jesus Montero for Cliff Lee at the deadline?
TMS wrote:question to those who think we should do whatever it takes to win championships in NY:do you trade Jesus Montero for Cliff Lee at the deadline?
I would, but I'm sick of bringing in these big names. I'd rather just go with what we have. Not for the sake of keeping Montero, but for the sake of going with what we have.
TMS wrote:question to those who think we should do whatever it takes to win championships in NY:do you trade Jesus Montero for Cliff Lee at the deadline?
no b/c you can sign him in the offseason for nothing...
TMS wrote:question to those who think we should do whatever it takes to win championships in NY:do you trade Jesus Montero for Cliff Lee at the deadline?
1. hell no.
2. we have zero need for cliff lee... if your 5th starter is javier vazquez that's saying something.
