Bean's approach emphasizes walks but walks certainly aren't the only thing. I'm sure Bean would not be happy with Swisher's postseason #s. I'm sure he'd also point out that we're talking about only 130 at-bats though. It's basically the equivalent of a month-long slump, which could happen to anyone.

I guess we disagree here. I could be wrong but my experience with Billy Bean hitters is they struggle to get a single when that's what you need... and when I say 'Billy Bean hitters' I mean the Moneyball era. What he goes after has obviously evolved but those early hitters are all low average, high OBP/SLG hitters
Please, Please Kuroda, pitch a great game and Yankee bats wake up again and win. We don't need to be hanging our season on Phil Hughes.

He advocates going for high OBP/SLG players (which Swisher has NOT been in the post-season). He's argued that you should ignore batting average, not that you should specifically pursue players with low batting averages.
Ibanez up for Arod. Believe it.

I fell asleep and missed the HRs. I wouldn't mind if Joe rested A-Rod for a long-time - maybe just using him as a PH.

It's too bad there's no Amnesty Provision in Baseball...
There is not "it" team this year. Still, anyone can win this......So why not the Yanks?
One game at a time!
What a moment for Ibanez. Very happy for him and for the Yanks. This may be one of Joe's legacy moments. I'm going to the game tonight, section 200 off of 1st base. Can't wait!!!
Three starting pitching performances. Almost three wins. And the pen performed like a machine last night.
Let's go Hughes! Keep the streak going!
Wonder if Joe is even thinking about pitching CC on short rest?
I cannot find an effing Ibanez jersey anywhere near me. Too many stupid Phillies fans in south jersey!
I'm a bit nervous about Hughes. Having said that, he's won every time I've seen him live, so let's keep the streak going! I don't think you'll find an Ibanez jersey anywhere...they didn't make many. Still, they'll be selling them tonight outside the stadium I bet. Can't wait to get me a Carl's cheesesteak and a $14 beer.
RIP Jerry Girardi. Joe will be managing tonight's game with a very heavy heart.
Hope the troops rally and win one for their skipper...
I can't believe Girardi used A-Rod against a righty with 2nd and 3rd and no one out. All the hitter needed to do was put the ball in play but A-Rod's been striking out 3 out of every 4 at-bats.
Down to 1 game to make or break the season. CC is pitching but the Yanks haven't been hitting.
We left another small nation on base again. Story of the season.
C'mon Horse, carry us to the next round. Looks like we'll need a complete game shutout to win.
No AROD starting tonight! $300 million baseball god to utility infielder in one day. Fatcessa hit it on the head today.
Chavez has to seriously be wondering about his own compensation at this point...
Game 5 do or die! WE NEED TO HIT THE DAMN BALL!!!! LET'S GO YANKEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well at least we won't have to predict ARod striking out at the plate everytime...
Guy can't even put the ball in play.

Pinch hitting for A-Rod with 2nd and 3rd and no outs would have been gutsy. This is too little, too late. Hopefully it doesn't cost us the entire season.
