Speculation being that A-Rod is trying to rush back, play in some rehab games, then retire "due to injury" and collect on the full remainder of his contract, whereas the contract would be voided with the ban.Even for the Yankees, getting out from underneath that contract would be nothing short than a blessing.
wow that's crazy and, yes, that would be a tremendous gift from God

Not really. That depends on what you're buying. George bought effectively for many years.
the current infrastrucutre has been in place a while
What do you mean by "infrastructure"?

players that got big enough contracts to buy the Brooklyn Bridge with straight cash

Yeah, the Yankees have always overpaid. That was never a problem because they just bought excellent but expensive replacements once the overpaid players stopped performing.

if they did that this time around, they'd be approaching $300 million. Their methodology was unsustainable, and that's why I wanted the Yanks to trade CC, Teix, and AROD to the Lakers Dodgers. The rumor was LA asked abou tthat deal before ultimately settling on the BoSox package

It was sustainable as long as George was the owner.

I don't understand your opinion on how George was buying effectively for many years. What was effective about the decade before the Core 4 emerged?

1990s and 2000s = many years
Pineda will be our 7th starter but we have only a couple of good hitters. I hope they trade for some offense. You can't rely solely on our old injured hitters coming back strong.
Hughes and Joba on the trading block. 0-4 in AAA Jeter coming back. I sure hope Cash is reading your posts, Bonn.
Is it just me, or is Cano dogging it around the bases getting more and more annoying every year? I know it was a blowout, and he had a great game anyway, but he had an easy triple, and gets thrown out at third like a fat little leaguer. Mickey Mantle would run harder to first on two bad knees.
I'm actually shocked they haven't already traded for offense.
WTF? Hafner is injured because the pitching machine hit him during practice!
They call it "the Humbler". 95 - 100mph fastballs that move like crazy. He fouled one off the back of his foot, apparently.
I'm more concerned about the wheels of our second best hitter, Mr. Leadoff Gardner.

You mean Hafner? I thought I read that the machine hit him.

Susan the annoying Waldman spoke to him right after it happened. He said the pitch came in wierd and he just fouled it off his foot. At 100mph, that's got to almost as good as having the machine hit you directly anyway.
Thoughts on giving Cano max type money?
Or, trade him for prospects and start the process.
Can Yanks afford to have "Don Chaney/Laden" type mediocrity on the team?
I can dig Jeter chasing history and the promise of Arod chasing the HR record but this seems like it won't happen.
I don't follow yanks that close, just looking for thoughts as to what the next step is.
They'll have to give it to somebody, but by the time Jeter and Arod (and Tex) are over with, Cano probably will be somewhere else. Cano doesn't have the track record of an Arod, and he certainly doesn't mean anywhere near to the franchise that Jeter does. If that's the bar, Cano and his "maybe I'll hustle and maybe I won't" play is what I see keeping him from getting the max Steinbucks.
Arod's looking at being gone until nearly 3/4 through next season, depending on how fast he can rush his comeback right now. Wonder if the Yanks still have to pay him when the league suspends him for that long?

Can they nail him on a morality clause breach on his contract? Or at least buy his ass out of the contract?
From what I've read, the league has the sole authority to punish individuals for using banned substances and no team has ever successfully imposed an additional punishment.

Arod and a morality clause? Wasn't he already under suspicion of use of PED's when he signed the new contract in 2007? I think the CBA keeps them from voiding the contract, but do they still have to pay him while suspended?
Even if the Steinbrenners can get out of A-Rod's contract, the cheap bastards will probably just pocket the cash. They just made close to a billion dollars on a sale of the YES Network but they won't spend a couple mil in luxury tax to improve the team right now!?
