Sabathia out for the rest of the season. Hurt during the best game he's thrown in 4 months.

Raise the white flag boys, game's over. (Phil Hughes pitching the middle Rays game)

I guess CC has been pitching with a bad hamstring. I don't think he can stay healthy for a full season, especially if they keep pitching him so many innings.

Cano asking $305MM for 10 years. Yeah, right. Not from these Steinbrenners. Buh bye Robbie!

Honestly, if they can give Arod and Jeter the contracts they did, why shouldn't Robbie get his shekels too? Just don't know what other team's going to come up with that kind of change. Dodgers?

Anyway, welcome back to your 1980's Yankees!

Is he asking that? No team will do anything close to that. Knowing that these Steinbrenners are running the team and there's a limited amount of money available, I I don't think I'd even go beyond the $138 mil they initially offered Cano. It's just too big a risk. You can get several very good players for that kind of money.
And it's not that I don't like Cano. I really wish we didn't have to go in separate directions but I don't want another A-Rod, CC, Pujols, Hamilton, etc. contract. These huge 10 year deals almost always work out badly.

Cano's been my favorite player for years, but the A-Rod contract especially has to be on everyone's mind here. It'll suck to see him in a new uniform, but no one's worth that contract.

Great final closing tribute to Mo. The Yankees are a class organization.

jrodmc @ 9/27/2013 3:38 PM
Sad to see the last of the Core 4 going out on the end of a sweep/shutout.

Next year's going to be really weird.

I've watched that clip probably too many times. It's so rare to see that level of dominance combined with such class and professionalism. Regardless of the sport, Mo is one of the greatest. Thanks for such an incredible career, Sandman!

Yankee fans.... what's next? I'm adamant about not signing Cano and Grandy. Yankees have enough outfielders and at second base they can find someone adequate. Maybe slide Jeter over. Nunez needs a position. Yankees need leadership and pitching. Put the money where it belongs and let's play baseball
SupremeCommander @ 10/1/2013 2:34 PM
I'd keep Cano and let Grandy walk. I wouldn't sign him for 10 years but 5? sure
Bonn1997 @ 10/1/2013 4:39 PM
I'm sure he'll get more than 5 somewhere.

he's not getting 30 mil a year either...he barely deserves the 15 mil he gets a year now....5 years 70 mil?

We should give him a deal and walk away.....he can take it or leave it. Yankees will be ok without him

Bonn1997 @ 10/2/2013 6:15 AM
This year, he would have legitimately deserved at least $25 mil IMO. When you look at his #s, you have to remember he's a 2nd baseman and he's outperforming players at his position by miles.

On another note, how about that guy Russell Martin?!

EnySpree @ 10/2/2013 10:01 AM
Cano isn't a leader. He doesn't really the team. He's just a guy that gets numbers. He's not going to put these numbers up for the length of a 10 year contract. Cano probably will have dwindling numbers from here on out. took dude this long to even get to the point he is now. I dint trust in his ability. Enough to invest in him. Your best players need to really the guys behind them. I just don't get that from Cano
Bonn1997 @ 10/2/2013 10:39 AM
Well I agree he's unlikely to be this productive in the future. I wouldn't give him what he's asking for. Probably not even half of it.
But that's just because I don't believe in making that kind of gigantic investment in one player. This year I think he was worth $30 mil but it's too risky to give him that much in the future.
EnySpree @ 10/2/2013 10:44 AM
So far we have to line up the guys we have under contract and go from there.

1st base: Tex (hopefully he is over his issues)
2nd base: nunez
Ss: ryan and Jeter
3rd: reynolds and arod

left: Soriano
center: garner
right: ichiro

Dh: wells
catcher: free agent

then you gotta bring back guys that can platoon. They can look for defense, run production and pitching. Yankees pitching sucks. Put the money towards a need.

Bonn1997 @ 10/2/2013 11:55 AM
Well that looks like the makings of a .300 team
Nalod @ 10/2/2013 12:17 PM
The Pinada-Montero trade has stunk for both.

Is Pinada expected to return to form?

I kind of agree, but at the same time, he plays 2B. Kind of like how an elite MLB or FB in football will never make as much as other positions

I think it's not as bad for the Yanks. We don't know if Pineda's going to return to form. Seattle can be fairly certain Jesus isn't at the same relative value as a possible #1 or #2 starter. He can't hit and he can't catch.

I remember fearing the Yanks traded the next Edgar Martinez - whoops!
