hughes made 2 bad pitches. unfortunately, they both resulted in homers.
matsui made a bad judgement call going for the granderson dunker in the 1st that resulted in an inside the park homer.
and the yanks couldn't get more than 4 runs.
hughes settled down after the 3rd - expected in a young pitcher to be pumped up early in the game. it's growing pains, but the yanks are in the middle of a playoff race. can they afford to live through the growing pains while each game is important? the answer is, they have to b/c mussina has been trash and hughes has been better.
the killer road trip...has killed almost all chances at the division.
Hope Yankee fans have fun watching the Mets and Red Sox in the playoffs this year :)

i should punch you in the face for uttering such blasphemy.
martin/andrew, ban this fool again and make sure whatever ip/firewall he tries directs him here
Matsui is really a bad fielder. He seemed decent a couple of years ago, but when they put Damon in left you can tell the difference big time and we all know Damon isn't outstanding.

He's not a bad fielder, but he doesn't have nearly the range that Damon has. Matsui is just average. I would much prefer playing Damon in the OF, having Matsui DH & playing Giambi at 1B for the stretch run.

they have to hang around b/c they have 6 with the redsox (even tho the division title seems further and further away) but 5 games vs. seattle which are now huge.
Actually we got 3 left to play vs SEA, which are obviously HUGE. Call me an eternal optimist, but I still think we can catch the Sawx. It's going to take going on another 1 of those long winning streaks to close out the season though. I'll settle for the WC if we can get it. Just get there & then let the chips fall where they may. Moose going tonight after a Yankee loss doesn't do much for my confidence tho.

If we could pitch Rocket only in home games, Hughes only in Away games, & Moose only in games where we play crappy competition, we'd be in great shape.
10 of our remaining 32 games are against the elite teams of the AL (teams at least ten over .500)
17 of Seattle's 32 are against elite teams.
Matsui is pretty bad out there on D. He misjudges way too many flyballs. He actually seemed more comfortable playing CF (where he played in Japan), but he's too slow to play there in the MLB. I would like to give Matsui some time at 1b next spring.
Also, seems like Ian Kennedy will not be a September call up b/c he'd have to be transferred to the 40 man.
matsui is such a professional hitter tho.
.300/30/100 every year

i disagree... he's made some nice running catches in games this year because he gets a good jump on balls off the bat... he's not a fast runner but he's got good tracking ability... he just doesn't have the athleticism or speed to run balls down that are hit into the gaps or the arm strength to throw runners out at the plate, but he always makes the right throw to the right cut off man.
as for Kennedy, if Moose lays another egg tonight i say just DFA Brower & add the kid to the 40 man roster.

I'm with you here. I've seen Matsui make some mistakes but I've never thought of him as being a hideous outfielder. At worst, maybe he's *slightly* below average IMO. I don't think he's killing the team because of his defense.
What about picking up Bob Wickman (who was just DFA) and putting Joba in the starting rotation? Just a thought.
Ever since matsui hurt his himself, he hasn't been the same fielder.

I agree, I think we will either get the wild card or the division, I feel we are definately better than both the indians and tigers and we can certainly beat the red sox.. this week is huge for us... starting tonight vs the tigers in the final game of this series.. a split would not be bad..
great gutty outing by Moose tonight... way to go Cash!

I like the idea of putting Joba in the rotation much better than i do the idea of picking up Wickman to take his place in the pen... i'd rather just stick Moose in the long man's role & use Viz, Farns & Bruney than go that route.
