It was never our year. We'll re-group and rape everyone next year. Yankees are winning the division again next year. Hank is no pushover. Book it.

i don't wanna hear ARod this or ARod that anymore... this entire team is gutless... from Jeter on down to ARod on down to Pudge on down to Jose Molina on down to Xavier Nady on down to Edwar Ramirez & on down the line... we went into this series knowing we had to win at least 2 of 3 w/even the MGR saying as much, & they laid down like dogs... not even a whimper of a comeback being shown by this team... i'm completely & utterly disgusted.
i wanna see huge changes in the offseason, starting w/Giambi being replaced by Texeiria on the roster, & CC Sabathia being added to the rotation.
Adding Mark Teixiera will only make this team even more gutless.
I'm telling you, I think part of the reason is Joe Girardi. These guys have not played for this guy ONCE this year.
i don't think it's on the MGR... they played gutless the past couple years under Joe Torre too... who do u wanna bring in now? Lou Piniella? u think he's gonna get these guys playing like the dynasty teams of the 90s? i don't... i think this team is missing guys like Paul O'Neill & Tino who are leaders... i don't wanna hear any more about Derek Jeter being the Captain of this team... the only position player leader on this team is Jorge Posada & missing him almost all season has been a huge loss.
i dunno if adding Mark T will make them better or worse, but i don't wanna see Giambi playing 1B anymore... u think ARod's been bad w/RISP this year, go take a gander at Giambi's puke inducing #'s... & we definitely need CC Sabathia on this team in a bad way... w/o Wang we've missed an ace all year... Moose has done a great job but Andy P has been way too eratic to be counted on & none of our young guys have shown they can be relied upon either... Joba's on his way to being a great one but he has to prove he can stay healthy for that to happen... if we don't add at least a topnotch ace like CC Sabathia in the offseason i'm gonna be extremely disappointed.

It's a poorly assembled, old, injury prone roster. The team has been on a downward trajectory for about 5 years now. That all falls on the GM, not the manager.
And what do you have against Teixeira? What do you mean it would make the team more gutless?

The only concern I have with CC Sabathia is that the guy is really fat and I wonder how well his body will hold up as he ages. I'd still go after him though and just hope for the best.
Really the only thing worth watching or rooting for is Mussina to get his 1st 20 win season. I've always been a big Moose fan. He's never been an unhittable ace, but very, very few pitchers have had as many solid seasons as he's had. He's also been one of the very few Yankees who I can say did everything he could have been asked to do this season. Mariano might be the only other one.

that's all on the players. there's no manager out there and available that could command the respect like joe torre. girardi made his fair share of blunders this year but the problem is not the manager, it's the culture and make-up of the lineup. time to go get some more blue collar guys. and they need to bring in one big bat to take all the pressure of the pansy we all know as arod (and move him to 3rd in the lineup).

i think we gotta get more hardnosed players in here & get rid of guys who are so 1 dimensional like Jason Giambi... Bobby Abreu's a liability in the field at this point as well & isn't stealing bases like he used to... we need to bring in another big bat or 2 to pair up w/ARod to take some of the pressure off & put the fear of God into the pitchers facing this lineup, cuz when u got guys like Paul Byrd & Tim Wakefield shutting them down in must win games, u got issues that need to be addressed.
at this point i'd trade away Matsui, Hughes & Kennedy to get my hands on Matt Holliday if i could, & sign Mark T & CC Sabathia as free agents... Hank said no expense would be spared to be competitive next season... those moves right there are the types of big moves i can envision the Yanks making this offseason.
this is the lineup i'm hoping to see next year:
1 - Damon DH
2 - Jeter SS
3 - Holliday RF
4 - ARod 3B
5 - Texieria 1B
6 - Cano 2B
7 - Posada C
8 - Nady LF
9 - Melky or Gardner CF
& this rotation:
Sabathia L
Wang R
Joba R
Moose R
Andy L
i'd even be open to trading Cano & another prospect if we can get our hands on a top of the rotation starting pitcher like Oswalt.

Giambi's 2 dimensional (power and ability to draw walks). They're both very important dimensions. I'd still pass on re-signing him, though. He's too unreliable and that's only gonna worsen as he ages.
Do you consider Oswalt an ace or a #2 pitcher?
Oswalt's an ace... he had an off year but look at his career #'s... he's got a 3.18 career ERA... if he's not an ace i don't know what is.

Giambi's a liability on the field & on the basepaths... his #'s in the clutch this season are putrid besides... Mark T is a much better option for us.

Agreed
Sabathia L
Wang R
Joba R
Moose R
Andy L
1 to 4 that's exactly what I would do. I'd have to see if there were any options better than Andy for #5 but if not I'd keep him. Would you be sending Hughes and Kennedy both down to the minors?

dunno if Andy will even be around, he may retire again... if not i wouldn't mind signing a guy like Jon Garland to be a middle of the rotation innings eater... his #'s don't make ur eyes pop but he wins games, bottomline.
Hughes & Kennedy are both in the minors already... i'd take a look at both of them in ST & weigh my options... i'm not averse to trading either one of them or both if i have to in order to improve the roster for next season.
TMS, I'll roll with your MarkT acquisition, although I seriously am not in love with him like some here are, but one thing I will not roll with for any reason is Roy Oswalt. Oswalt might appear to be having his first "off year" but if you look more closely at his stats, his WHIP and OpBA have risen over the past few years, while his wins have gone down and his K/per9 have gone down every year of his career.
Wins (last 3 years)
2006 - 15
2007 - 14
2008 - 12
K's (last 3 years)
2006 - 166
2007 - 154
2008 - 135
OpBA (last 3 years)
2006 - .299
2007 - .319
2008 - .320
WHIP (last 3 years)
2006 - 1.17
2007 - 1.33
2008 - 1.31
AKA an aging pitcher pitching to the tune of a .320+ avg who is walking guys and can't strikeout anyone does not bode well in the American League.

good points brought up about Oswalt... i didn't even bother to check those #'s... that BA vs. is alarming.
let's say we could trade Cano for a pitcher... who would u expect back in return that's somewhat realistic an option? i think if we stock up w/a couple power bats, we can make due w/Betemit at 2B next season if there's a trade of Cano that will net us a top of the line starter.

I'm totally willing to trade Cano, as you know haha. I like Cano, I really do, I'm just not certain he's ever going to commit to the game of baseball. I think he's working on sheer talent right now and that's too bad. It seemed like Bowa was the only one to be able to get him to really work to become a better player. I thought last year he turned the corner, but this year it's back the same old same old with him, but this time even worse.
I think realistically we can hope for someone like Matt Cain from the Giants. I think the Giants would move on that pretty quickly with the emergence of Jonathon Sanchez and obviously Tim Linceum, Cano would be a nice bat for a team that desperately needs it. I like Cain, although his WHIP worries me in the AL, he has been kind of resilient though in this career so far, he's always walked alot of guys but never seems to give up that many runs. I think a change of scenery might do him some good.
I'd also ask the Dodgers about Chad Billingsley. He's alot like Matt Cain in the respect he walks alot of guys, but somehow never gives up runs. I think thDodgers would be interested too since Kent is aging and Torre/Bowa would push for Cano.
I think both of these trades would have legs and both guys are under 25 years old.
