only santana is a better 2nd half pitcher than pettite for the past 5 years. i think pettite is 8-1 since the all star break.
tkf @ 8/29/2007 12:17 PM
pettite is a warrior. I always like him..

How good is Yoba and Hughes going to be over the next decade for us? wow!!

I heard Ian kennedy has good stuff, just not the joba and hughes velocity...
VDesai @ 8/29/2007 1:19 PM
Ian Kennedy's fast ball sits at 88-92. But he has good command of it and his secondary pitches. He racked up way over a strikeout an inning in the minors this year. Actually the funny part is he's very similar to Mike Mussina in terms of style.

i'm going to tonight's texas gun slinger matchup of beckett vs. the rocket. it'd be huge to take 2 of 3 or sweep the sox to show the AL we mean business after sputtering towards the end of that road trip. i'm going to tonights game, first time in the bronx since last year's subway series game that got rained out a few days before july 4th. can't wait.

2 of 3 does jack for us in terms of catching boston. we need to sweep them.
TMS @ 8/29/2007 4:10 PM
no doubt... if we don't sweep this series, any hopes of catching the Sux for the division are done & gone.
Bonn1997 @ 8/29/2007 5:09 PM
I'd be fine with the wild card spot. The odds of gaining 7 games in 6 weeks on a team you're roughly comparable with (we're not talking about the Devil Rays!) are very low.
Bonn1997 @ 8/29/2007 5:37 PM
Angels leading the Mariners 3-1!

we made a drastic run twice this year already, but it's going to take another 1 of those 14 of 15 type stretches to do it, which is admittedly unlikely... still, i didn't think it was likely we'd sweep them 5 games at Fenway last year either.
TMS @ 8/30/2007 2:03 AM
What a gutsy performance by Rocket tonight... that's what you call a gamer... say what you want about the guy & how he may not have lived up to his contract this year, but man we needed that BAD, you gotta give him his props.
BigSm00th @ 8/30/2007 2:15 AM
ya, my view is that the wild card is ours for the taking, i dont think theres any way boston relinquishes the lead unless we win tomorrow and sweep them in boston.

just make the playoffs and go from there, though playing ANA in the first round is gonna be a pain in the ass

Hope Yankee fans have fun watching the Mets and Red Sox in the playoffs this year :)
Yankees actually have a better record (and better team) than the Mets now. How do ya like 'em apples?
Bonn1997 @ 8/30/2007 7:31 AM
We can't go to Farnsworth any more in close games. Each game is too important now.
EnySpree @ 8/30/2007 8:27 AM
The yanks have to hope that after all this inspired play that they have enough left for the playoffs.

This team has came along way. They were under .500 for most of the first half of the season. Its amazing what they have done.

If they don't make the playoffs, we can't be upset. The future is in place and we can be proud of them for the next 10 years.

Seattle might get swept by Ana. If the yanks sweep Boston then the wild card is ours. Yanks should be able to lock that wild card up from there.

I told you guys the end of august is when the season really starts. Exciting stuff. Go yanks.

it's not by higher winning % if they both don't have the same # of games. come on man, make sure you got your baseball rules down before trying to talk yang about the yanks.

what are you talking about?

"New York trimmed Boston's cushion to six games in the AL East and moved within a percentage point of Seattle for the wild-card lead."

yes, but the season CAN NOT end today if seattle and ny didn't have the same # of games and are within 1 game of each other in the standings. in this case, seattle would have to play 2 more games (probably b/c they were rained out earlier) and then we could decide who gets the wildcard. right now, there's no wild card team in the AL.
jaydh @ 8/30/2007 10:39 AM
i didn't know there could be no wildcard team at anytime. care to find this rule?
