Knicks · Please Trade Toney Douglas (page 1)

Solace @ 4/24/2011 6:23 PM
Look, I like his energy, I like him for a spark off the bench at times. It's clear he's not good at ball movement; he's really an undersized two guard and can't play defense. He's not the right piece for this team and he's probably one of the few assets we have with some value. Adios, Toney.
Sangfroid @ 4/24/2011 6:29 PM
His value is super low, just like Fields. We're stuck with them both.
MaTT4281 @ 4/24/2011 6:29 PM
Might I also tack on, "Please resign Anthony Carter"?

Sucks to go out this way, but without AC bringing it today, our season ends with a completely silent crowd and a 30 point blowout.
Man still has game.

Anji @ 4/24/2011 6:31 PM
Sorry not trading Toney Douglas after his second season and first playoff series.
holfresh @ 4/24/2011 6:33 PM
You know it's this kind of loss and performance that can make young players work in the off season...TD and Fields just got huge wake up calls...And please bring in someone to compete with Fields for the two...

We can not bring him back...absolutely do not want him back. If he is brought back it better be explained to all why and he better have a different role.

Keep in mind, guy was playing with a hurt shoulder....if Billups was healthy, we probably see less of him.

Douglas played like crap today but have seen too many good things out of him this season to give up on him this early.

Always some kind of excuse yet with that hurt shoulder it never stopped him from shooting

rojasmas @ 4/24/2011 8:03 PM
Can't understand why he was so bad in this series. Also thought he was supposed to be a good defender. Maybe he was hurt, but you don't run with your shoulder! I think he wa psyched out by Rondo. Too much deference.

Bingo.

Toney Douglas is a keeper. He'll bring energy off the bench and he can score. This is only his second year in the league! He's on the books next year for a little over $1.1 million. He'll get better on the defensive end and need to work on his shot selection but he's shown flashes. I would think most people would want to keep young talent.
MSG3 @ 4/24/2011 8:07 PM
He's a good 7th or 8th man off the bench. I like him. He was just asked to do too much. Our coach should've recognized that Anthony Carter actually knows how to run an offense.

He was put into position to run offense, as in get players in their right spots and pass them the ball while knocking down timely shots. The things players learn to do in the 5th grade. He'd rather call his number as a 1rst 2nd 3rd 4rth 5th option which is what created the DO TO MUCH. If he'd just play the RIGHT WAY there's no complication

I really don't think he was looking for his shot enough. It's the getting the ball to the right spots, smart decisions and penetrating that he didn't do well with. Also, his defense was horrible. He and Landry just weren't ready for this stage. A lot of guys werent. We shrunk from the moment in games 3 and 4.

y2zipper @ 4/24/2011 9:12 PM
Douglas is a keeper, but not at PG. He's pretty decent reserve 2 who can shoot the ball and bring
scoring off the bench, but has no business running the point

If you watched him closely he wasn't passing or penetrating enough because he was looking for his shot. Just because you look for your shot but don't pull, doesn't mean a player wasn't looking for it enough. Trust he was. His problem resulted in a lot stagnated over dribbling sloppy execution with either wrong player ball in hand, bad shots, or turnovers and yes his defense was awful but he's been overrated well before the playoffs arrived. His ability to make 3ptrs which is such a mesmerizing play fans have a very distorted view of what he does or doesn't do.

Well I agree with you that he over dribbles and doesnt penetrate enough. That makes him a bad PG. Doesn't mean he was doing all those things because he was looking to shoot first. He's not ready to be a lead PG and it doesn't help that it takes a top flight PG to be able to execute this system.

In a more traditional set he corsses the half court line, makes a quick initial pass and either gets the ball back after getting into the paint and back around the perimiter or something else pens up. It's simpler in an offense like Boston's or LA's because the PG isn't as vital, even though Rondo is a meastro.

All he has to do is duplicate what Carter does and Carter is not Top Flight but good enough to keep us consistently competitive. No more excuses no more begging off sorry all used up for several seasons now.

Exactly wht would we get back? Second round pick?
martin @ 4/24/2011 10:00 PM
I don't think TD played well in the PG role, but forcing a young backup into a starting role against perhaps the best half court defense in the league that really only has to focus on Melo doesn't really seem to me the best way to judge a player.

TD has been in this system the longest he should be able to step it up though.
