Is more complete the same thing as better? Are you sure it's better to be mediocre in many areas (Neal, Foye) than the best in the nation in one and below average in the rest (Novak)?

Agreed, and I'm glad to see him back. I think he earned his check. Adding Kidd and having Lin back will only mean more opportunities for Novak.
Even though JR can handle the ball and create his own shot I can't think of a singe game I didn't want to scream at him for making a stupid play. He's very streaky and often makes poor decisions and stupid fouls when it matters...gives me Nate Rob flashbacks. Again having Kidd and Lin to make those decisions will help JR too... but out of the two, Novak is the safer option. Novak can shoot the lights out on any given day and now we have the PGs to get him open shots so with his skill it's pretty safe to say he'll remain a valuable asset. And another thing about Novak was that he said all along that he wanted to be in NY and play here whatever it takes...he could have gotten paid anywhere despite his playoff performance but he chose to be here. Does JR want to play here? He seems ambivalent despite being a Jersey guy. We don't know how committed he is...and while ultimately I do think it would be good to have him back, I don't think the money we can offer is exactly convincing. I still can't believe the Raptors are going to pay Fields 20mil...

im happy about this signing...im not too worried about novak poor performance in the playoffs...i think he (and the rest of the knix offense) will be better with lin and kidd finding open shooters
my real question is...does this leave us with 3-4mil cap space to sign c. lee or r. foye?

Were you watching? He was NEVER open. Novak hit shots all season with guys running at him. Miami had Wade attached to him all series. Compound that with not having any dribble penetration at all and you had an extremely stagnant offense. Only thing that could have helped was if JR was able to hit a good percentage of the wide open shots he had.
The difference with Novak and other good shooters is that Steve is always on. He's extremely consistent and he can still get his shot off quickly even with defenders closing on him. He doesn't rebound or defend well but he is fundamentally sound. He boxes out and is a smart, willing defender. I might go as high as full mid level. I think he's a rare type of role player, not just any old spot up shooter.

Yeah, I'm OK with the deal. It's less than what Danny Green just signed for and it's about what Matt Bonner got. Yeah he's one dimensional, but he does a real good job with that one dimension
great signing. When there's a PG on the floor Novac is a true weapon. He doesnt guard or defend well but he does play hard on both ends. He earned this deal. Good for him. Glad we have him
Dude was lethal at times for us - glad he is back. Sure he had a bad series but everyone outside of Melo did. We need a shooter like this who can come in, put points up, and keep the defense honest.
With Lin and J Kidd at PG I am not too worried about a repeat of the Heat series. We also have Camby backing up Tyson - this is HUGE. If Stat moves to 6th man our second squad would be insane. He will probably start regardless but there are some nice possibilities here.

Good points. Besides shooting 3 pointers, he is a smart player and a team player. Plays position defense and boxes out his man. He doesn't get many rebounds because he is planted at the 3 pt line, not inside. Offensive rebounds last year were only .2/game. But I would rather have him on the outside hitting 3 pointers at a 48% clip than inside fighting for rebounds.
I like Novak quite a bit. He knows what he does and doesn't try to do more. If he's not open, he moves the ball -- immediately. He plays decent position defense and gets as many rebounds as could be expected from someone who's not as strong or quick as his opponents. I don't hold his low scoring against him in Miami series. Heat keyed on him. He occupied defenders. His man didn't help on defense. That opened the floor some. Just not enough considering talent gap in that series. Did what he's supposed to do -- if he's not open, don't shoot it.

As much as a leader Kidd was brought here to be, we needed skill, and if we had signed a useful player like Bayless instead or even Delfino (making Novak expendable)
2 extra draft picks that we actually could use as assets in addition to the 3 draft picks used to get rid of Camby and Novak, SO 5 EXTRA PICKS
Those 2 moves, later becoming 3 moves, would allow us to be much in a much better situation for yesterday, today, and tomorrow
We also could have had the full 5m MLE last summer, instead of the 3m MLE if we did not trade for Camby and resigned Novak

the 5 MLE could of been huge but they would of wasted in on similar players to Kidd and Camby instead of a 25 year old like Brandon Wright
