His first two years are CAP friendly--affordable and he could easily play his way into a higher yielding contract than 5mm. While year 3 is high for production today---will it be high in 3 years? And can you use that 15mm $ contract when we have NO cap room in a S+T if needed. Could we simply sign Lin and then trade him during the year for assets--a team was willing to give him 8mm. There is obvious bad blood between Carmelo and quite possibly Dolan against Lin---remember Dolan has more money than God--Lin isnt going to change his life---Dolan is all about control. Its a rising star that had taken attention away from Melo and maybe even Dolan himself. But its not good business--no team can say with a certainty that year 3 our contract structure will look like this. Even Amare can be traded 3 years from now--you do base a signing on year 3 lets let cool hands prevail and bring Lin back--if Houston really wants him---two first round picks when they are able to do a deal.

Perfectly stated. Year 3 - he becomes a very tradeable commodity

To further expand on your point, you can use Lin in a trade for Chris Paul. Without Lin, 0% chance at Chris Paul.

If he's making 15 million in year 3 and he's a perfectly tradeable commodity and not just an expiring contract, then that means he's played up to his contract and we're not going to want to trade him.

Not necessarily. But he would have to be decent.
And, Elton Brand is a bad example since he is not asian.

You're correct to let him walk for nothing is the height of stupidity. Of course this is Dolan we're talking about.

There are so many reasons NOT to trade Lin--I mean some one come up with a legit reason why we should let him go? Salary structure in year 3????????? You cant base your business or operations like that--we have no salary structure the following year. You dont allow an asset like Lin to walk for nothing when he is being paid 5mm per for the first two and we may need his big contract in year 3 if things go foul. Or Lin could just be good great and we keep him---this is is rediculous
I MIGHT BE IN THE MINORITY BUT LIN IS GOING NOWHERE
everyone needs to calm down
Briggs, I agree completely. We are in for some dark days if the Knicks don't match.
AND Lin is 24 all I see us loading up on 40 year old vets--guess what they are not staying healthy with deep contribution for 82 games You need Lin

dude, every report is saying the knicks won't match. and they signed kidd, traded for felton and signed prigioni. they have 3 PGs. they aren't matching. it's over.
stupidity, egos and insecurity rule again. and make a mockery of the fact that we bothered to care.

FOR REAL! Why is being a Knick fan like being in an abusive relationship?
I think people are are way overrating our defense because we acquired a bunch of 39-40 year olds. Without Lin our offense will be the same as last year, Bibby-Baron dumped the ball to Melo and so will Felton. We won't have a consistent third scoring option assuming Amare can even be the second anymore. Most good defenses will completely stall our offense and then they will outrun and outscore us. We are in for a long years of second round sucktitude.

Does anyone on this site actually have season tickets? The only time I've been to Knick games was when they were at the absolute nadir of existence and people were desperate to give their tickets way. I can't imagine actually paying to buy a ticket to watch the Knicks.
